John 7
1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
Hernach wanderte Jesus in Galiläa umher; denn in Judäa wollte er nicht mehr umherwandern, weil die Juden ihn zu töten suchten.
2 Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand.
Unterdessen kam das jüdische Laubhüttenfest heran.
3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judæa, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
Da sagten seine Brüder zu ihm: "Geh fort von hier, begib dich nach Judäa, damit auch deine Anhänger die Werke sehen, die du vollbringst.
4 For [there is] no man [that] doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.
Denn niemand wirkt im verborgenen, der öffentlich bekannt werden will. Kannst du solche Dinge tun, so zeige dich offen vor der Welt."
5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.
Selbst seine Brüder glaubten also nicht an ihn.
6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.
Deshalb sagte Jesus zu ihnen: "Die Zeit ist für mich noch nicht gekommen; für euch ist freilich die Zeit stets geschickt.
7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
Euch kann die Welt nicht hassen; mich aber haßt sie, weil ich ihr bezeuge, daß ihre Werke böse sind.
8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.
Ihr mögt zum Feste hinaufgehen; ich gehe zu diesem Feste noch nicht hinauf; denn meine Zeit ist noch nicht da."
9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode [still] in Galilee.
So sprach er zu ihnen und blieb in Galiläa.
10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
Nachdem seine Brüder zum Fest abgereist waren, ging er selbst auch hinauf, aber nicht öffentlich, nur im geheimen.
11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
Die Juden suchten ihn beim Fest und fragten: "Wo ist er denn?"
12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
Man redete viel von ihm heimlich im Volke. Die einen sagten: "Er meint es gut." Andere aber sagten: "Nein, im Gegenteil, er verführt das Volk."
13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.
Doch offen sprach von ihm keiner aus Furcht vor den Juden.
14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.
Als nun das Fest schon halb vorüber war, ging Jesus in den Tempel und lehrte.
15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
Die Juden wunderten sich und fragten: "Wie kennt er sich in der Schrift aus, da er doch keinen Unterricht gehabt hat."
16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
Jesus sprach zu ihnen: "Ich habe meine Lehre nicht aus mir, vielmehr von dem, der mich gesandt hat.
17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or [whether] I speak of myself.
Wer sich Mühe gibt, seinen Willen zu erfüllen, der wird erkennen, ob meine Lehre von Gott ist, oder ob ich aus mir selber rede.
18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
Wer aus sich selber redet, sucht seine eigene Ehre; doch wer die Ehre dessen sucht, der ihn gesandt hat, ist ehrlich, und kein Unrecht ist in ihm.
19 Did not Moses give you the law, and [yet] none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?
Hat euch nicht Moses das Gesetz gegeben? Und dennoch hält keiner aus euch das Gesetz. Warum sucht ihr mich zu töten?"
20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?
Die Menge rief: "Du bist verrückt. Wer trachtet dir denn nach dem Leben?"
21 Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.
Jesus entgegnete: "Ein einziges Werk habe ich getan, und ihr seid alle befremdet darüber.
22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers; ) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.
Moses gab euch die Beschneidung - nicht als ob sie von Moses käme, sie stammt schon von den Vätern - und ihr nehmt die Beschneidung auch am Sabbat vor.
23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?
Wenn jemand auch am Sabbat beschnitten werden darf, damit das Gesetz des Moses nicht übertreten wird, wie könnt ihr mir dann zürnen, wenn ich am Sabbat einen ganzen Menschen gesund gemacht habe?
24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
Urteilt doch nicht nach dem Augenschein, nein, richtet nach dem wahren Sachverhalt."
25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
Da sagten einige aus Jerusalem: "Ist das nicht der, den man zu töten sucht?
26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
Seht, er redet ja ganz offen, und man sagt nichts dagegen. Ja, sollten wirklich die Vorsteher einsehen, daß er der Christus ist?
27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.
Wir aber wissen, woher er stammt. Wenn aber einmal der Christus kommt, weiß niemand, woher er stammt".
28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
Da rief Jesus, der im Tempel lehrte: "Ihr kennt mich, und ihr wißt, woher ich stamme. Ich bin nicht von mir selbst gekommen, vielmehr, der mich gesandt hat, ist der Wahrhaftige. Ihr freilich kennt ihn nicht.
29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.
Ich aber kenne ihn: Ich stamme ja von ihm, und er hat mich gesandt."
30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
Da suchten sie ihn zu ergreifen; doch niemand legte Hand an ihn, denn seine Stunde war noch nicht gekommen.
31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this [man] hath done?
Aus dem Volk glaubten viele an ihn und sprachen: "Wird der Christus, wenn er einmal kommt, wohl mehr Zeichen wirken als dieser?"
32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
Die Pharisäer wurden inne, daß man über ihn so im Volk sprach. Da sandten die Pharisäer und die Oberpriester Diener aus, ihn zu ergreifen.
33 Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and [then] I go unto him that sent me.
Und Jesus sprach: "Nur noch kurze Zeit bin ich bei euch; dann gehe ich zu dem, der mich gesandt hat.
34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find [me]: and where I am, [thither] ye cannot come.
Ihr werdet mich zwar suchen, aber nicht finden, und wo ich bin, dahin könnt ihr nicht kommen."
35 Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
Da fragten sich die Juden: "Wohin will er denn gehen, daß wir ihn nicht finden sollen? Will er vielleicht in die Diaspora zu den Heiden gehen und die Heiden lehren?
36 What [manner of] saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find [me]: and where I am, [thither] ye cannot come?
Was soll denn das bedeuten, wenn er sagt: 'Ihr werdet mich zwar suchen, aber nicht finden', und 'wo ich bin, dahin könnt ihr nicht kommen'?"
37 In the last day, that great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
Am letzten Tag, dem "großen Festtag" stand Jesus da und rief: "Wer dürstet, komme zu mir und trinke.
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Wer an mich glaubt, aus dessen Innern werden, wie die Schrift sagt, Ströme lebendigen Wassers fließen."
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet [given]; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Er meinte damit den Geist, den die empfangen sollten, die an ihn glauben, denn es gab noch keinen Geist, weil Jesus noch nicht in seine Herrlichkeit eingegangen war.
40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
Einige in der Menge, die diese Worte hörten, sagten: "Er ist wahrhaftig der Prophet."
41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
Andere sagten: "Er ist der Christus." Doch einige meinten: "Kommt der Christus denn aus Galiläa?
42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
Sagt nicht die Schrift: Er kommt aus dem Geschlechte Davids; aus Bethlehem, dem Flecken, wo David war, kommt der Christus."
43 So there was a division among the people because of him.
Und so entstand um seinetwillen ein Zwiespalt in der Menge.
44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
Einige aus ihnen wollten ihn ergreifen, doch niemand mochte an ihn Hand anlegen.
45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
Die Diener kehrten also zu den Oberpriestern und den Pharisäern zurück. Sie fragten: "Warum habt ihr ihn nicht mitgebracht?"
46 The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
Die Diener sagten: "Noch nie hat jemand so wie dieser Mensch gesprochen."
47 Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?
Die Pharisäer hielten ihnen entgegen: "Habt auch ihr euch schon verführen lassen?
48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
Glaubt etwa einer von den Ratsherren an ihn oder einer von den Pharisäern?
49 But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.
Nein, nur dieser Pöbel - er sei verflucht -, der vom Gesetze nichts versteht."
50 Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them, )
Da sprach zu ihnen Nikodemus, derselbe, der früher schon einmal des Nachts zu ihm gekommen und der einer aus ihrer Mitte war:
51 Doth our law judge [any] man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
"Verurteilt bei uns das Gesetz einen Menschen, bevor man ihn gehört und untersucht hat, was er getan hat?"
52 They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
Da sagten sie zu ihm: "Bist vielleicht auch du aus Galiläa? Sieh nach in der Schrift und wisse, daß kein Prophet aus Galiläa kommt."
53 And every man went unto his own house.
Damit gingen sie auseinander, ein jeder in seine Wohnung.
