Job 22
1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
Då svarade Eliphas af Thema, och sade:
2 Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
Menar du att en man kan liknas vid Gud; eller någor är så klok, att han kan likna sig vid honom?
3 [Is it] any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or [is it] gain [to him], that thou makest thy ways perfect?
Menar du att dem Allsmägtiga behagar, att du räknar dig så from? Eller hvad hjelper det honom, om än dine vägar utan brist voro?
4 Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
Menar du han fruktar att straffa dig, och gå till rätta med dig?
5 [Is] not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
Ja, din ondska är fast stor, och uppå din orättfärdighet är ingen ände.
6 For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
Du hafver tagit af dinom broder pant utan sak; du hafver dragit kläden af dem nakna.
7 Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
Du hafver icke gifvit dem trötta vatten dricka; du hafver nekat dem hungroga ditt bröd.
8 But [as for] the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
Du hafver brukat våld i landena, och bott deruti med stort prål.
9 Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
Enkor hafver du låtit gå ohulpna, och sönderbrutit de faderlösas armar.
10 Therefore snares [are] round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;
Derföre äst du omvefvad med snaro, och fruktan hafver dig hasteliga förskräckt.
11 Or darkness, [that] thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.
Skulle du då icke se mörkret, och vattufloden icke öfvertäcka dig?
12 [Is] not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
Si, Gud är hög i himmelen, och ser stjernorna uppe i höjdene;
13 And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?
Och du säger: Hvad vet Gud? Skulle han kunna döma det i mörkret är?
14 Thick clouds [are] a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
Skyn skyler för honom, och han ser intet; han vandrar i himmelens omgång.
15 Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
Vill du akta på verldenes lopp, der de orättfärdige uti gångne äro?
16 Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
Hvilke förgångne äro, förr än tid var, och vattnet hafver bortsköljt deras grund;
17 Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
De som till Gud sade: Far ifrån oss; hvad skulle den Allsmägtige kunna göra dem?
18 Yet he filled their houses with good [things: ] but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
Ändock han uppfyllde deras hus med ägodelar; men de ogudaktigas råd vare långt ifrå mig.
19 The righteous see [it], and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
De rättfärdige skola få det se, och glädja sig; och den oskyldige skall bespotta dem.
20 Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.
Deras väsende skall försvinna, och det qvart är af dem, skall elden förtära.
21 Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
Så förlika dig nu med honom, och haf frid; derutaf skall du hafva mycket godt.
22 Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
Hör lagen utaf hans mun, och fatta hans tal uti ditt hjerta.
23 If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
Om du omvänder dig till den Allsmägtiga, så skall du uppbyggd varda; och kasta det orätt är långt ifrå dine hyddo;
24 Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the [gold] of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
Så skall han gifva guld igen för stoft, och för sten gyldene bäcker.
25 Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.
Och du skall hafva guld nog, och silfver skall dig med hopom tillfalla.
26 For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
Då skall du hafva din lust i dem Allsmägtiga, och upplyfta ditt anlete till Gud.
27 Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
Du skall bedja honom, och han skall höra dig; och ditt löfte skall du betala.
28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
Ehvad du tager dig före, det skall han låta dig väl af gå; och ljus skall skina på dina vägar.
29 When [men] are cast down, then thou shalt say, [There is] lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
Förty de som sig ödmjuka, dem upphöjer han; och den som sin ögon nederslår, han skall blifva frälst;
30 He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
Och den oskyldige skall hulpen varda; för sina händers renhets skull skall han hulpen varda.
