Job 1
1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name [was] Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.
૧ઉસ દેશમાં એક માણસ હતો તેનું નામ અયૂબ હતું. તે નિર્દોષ, પ્રામાણિક, ઈશ્વરની બીક રાખનાર તથા દુષ્ટતાથી દૂર રહેનાર હતો.
2 And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.
૨તેને સાત દીકરાઓ અને ત્રણ દીકરીઓ હતી.
3 His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.
૩તેની પાસે સાત હજાર ઘેટાં, ત્રણ હજાર ઊંટ, પાંચસો જોડ બળદ, પાંચસો ગધેડીઓ હતી. વળી ઘણા નોકર-ચાકર હતા. તેથી તે સમગ્ર પૂર્વના લોકમાં સૌથી મહાન પુરુષ ગણાતો હતો.
4 And his sons went and feasted [in their] houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
૪તેના દીકરાઓમાંનો દરેક પોતપોતાના ઘરે મિજબાની આપતો; અને પોતાની ત્રણેય બહેનોને ખાવાપીવા માટે નિમંત્રણ આપતો.
5 And it was so, when the days of [their] feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings [according] to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
૫તેઓની ઉજાણીના દિવસો પૂરા થયા પછી અયૂબ તેઓને તેડાવીને પવિત્ર કરતો. અને વહેલી સવારમાં ઊઠીને તે સર્વની ગણતરી મુજબ દરેકને સારુ દહનીયાર્પણ કરતો. તે કહેતો, “કદાચ મારા સંતાનોએ પાપ કરીને પોતાના હૃદયમાં ઈશ્વરને શ્રાપ આપ્યો હોય!” અયૂબ હંમેશાં આ પ્રમાણે કરતો.
6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
૬એક દિવસ દૂતો યહોવાહની આગળ હાજર થયા. તેઓની સાથે શેતાન પણ આવ્યો.
7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
૭યહોવાહે શેતાનને પૂછ્યું, “તું ક્યાં જઈ આવ્યો? શેતાને યહોવાહને જવાબ આપ્યો. “હું પૃથ્વી પર આમતેમ સર્વત્ર ફરીને આવ્યો છું.
8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that [there is] none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
૮પછી યહોવાહે શેતાનને કહ્યું, “શું તેં મારા સેવક અયૂબને લક્ષમાં લીધો છે? પૃથ્વી પર તેના જેવો નિર્દોષ, પ્રામાણિક, ઈશ્વરથી ડરનાર તથા દુષ્ટતાથી દૂર રહેનાર બીજો કોઈ પુરુષ નથી.”
9 Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
૯ત્યારે શેતાને યહોવાહને ઉત્તર આપ્યો કે, શું અયૂબ કારણ વિના ઈશ્વરની બીક રાખે છે?
10 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
૧૦શું તમે તેનું, તેના ઘરનું તથા તેનાં હાથનાં કામોની ચોગરદમ વાડ બનાવી નથી? તમે તેને અને તેના કામધંધાને આશીર્વાદ આપ્યો છે. તેથી દેશમાં તેની સંપત્તિ વધી ગઈ છે.
11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
૧૧પણ તમારો હાથ લંબાવીને તેની સંપત્તિને સ્પર્શ કરો એટલે તે તમારા મોઢે ચઢીને શ્રાપ આપશે.”
12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath [is] in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
૧૨યહોવાહે શેતાનને કહ્યું, “જો, તેનું તમામ હું તારા હાથમાં સોંપું છું. પણ તેના શરીરને નુકસાન કરતો નહિ એ પછી શેતાન યહોવાહની હાજરીમાંથી ચાલ્યો ગયો.
13 And there was a day when his sons and his daughters [were] eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:
૧૩એક દિવસે તેના દીકરાઓ અને તેની દીકરીઓ તેઓના મોટા ભાઈના ઘરમાં ખાતા તથા દ્રાક્ષારસ પીતાં હતાં તે સમયે,
14 And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:
૧૪એક સંદેશાવાહકે આવીને અયૂબને કહ્યું કે, “બળદો હળે જોતરેલા હતા અને ગધેડાં તેઓની પાસે ચરતાં હતાં.
15 And the Sabeans fell [upon them], and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
૧૫એટલામાં શબાઈમ લોકો હુમલો કરીને બધાંને લઈ ગયા. તેઓએ ચાકરોને તલવારથી મારી નાંખ્યા છે; ફક્ત હું એકલો જ તને ખબર આપવાને બચી ગયો છું.”
16 While he [was] yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
૧૬તે હજી તો કહેતો હતો, એટલામાં બીજાએ આવીને કહ્યું, “ઈશ્વરના અગ્નિએ આકાશમાંથી પડીને ઘેટાં તથા ચાકરોને બાળીને ભસ્મ કર્યાં છે. ફક્ત હું એકલો જ તને ખબર આપવાને બચી ગયો છું.”
17 While he [was] yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
૧૭તે હજી કહેતો હતો એટલામાં બીજાએ આવીને કહ્યું, “ખાલદીઓની ત્રણ ટોળીઓ ઊંટો પર હુમલો કરીને તેઓને લઈ ગયા છે. વળી તેઓએ ચાકરોને તલવારથી મારી નાખ્યા છે. ફક્ત હું એકલો જ તમને ખબર આપવા બચી ગયો છું.”
18 While he [was] yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters [were] eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:
૧૮તે હજી કહેતો હતો એટલામાં બીજાએ આવીને કહ્યું, “તારા દીકરાઓ તથા તારી દીકરીઓ તેઓના મોટાભાઇના ઘરમાં ખાતા તથા દ્રાક્ષારસ પીતાં હતાં.
19 And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
૧૯તે વખતે અરણ્યમાંથી ભારે વાવાઝોડું આવ્યું. અને તેનો ધક્કો ઘરના ચારે ખૂણાને લાગવાથી તેની અંદરના યુવાનો પર તે તૂટી પડ્યું અને તેઓ મરી ગયા છે; ફક્ત હું એકલો જ તને ખબર આપવાને બચી ગયો છું.”
20 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
૨૦પછી અયૂબે ઊભા થઈને, પોતાનો જામો ફાડી નાખ્યો, પોતાનું માથું મૂંડાવીને જમીન પર પડીને ઈશ્વરની સ્તુતિ કરી.
21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
૨૧તેણે કહ્યું કે, મારી માતાના ગર્ભસ્થાનમાંથી હું નિર્વસ્ત્ર આવ્યો હતો અને એવો જ પાછો જઈશ. જે મારી પાસે હતું તે યહોવાહે આપ્યું અને યહોવાહે તે લઈ લીધું છે; યહોવાહના નામની પ્રશંસા હો.”
22 In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
૨૨એ સઘળામાં અયૂબે પાપ કર્યું નહિ. અને ઈશ્વરને મૂર્ખપણે દોષ આપ્યો નહિ.
