James 5
1 Go to now, [ye] rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon [you].
Venez maintenant, riches, pleurez et hurlez sur les malheurs qui vous frappent.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
Vos richesses sont corrompues et vos vêtements sont rongés par les mites.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.
Votre or et votre argent sont corrodés, et leur corrosion servira de témoignage contre vous; ils dévoreront votre chair comme du feu. Tu as amassé ton trésor dans les derniers jours.
4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
Voici, le salaire des ouvriers qui ont fauché tes champs, que tu as retenu par fraude, crie; et les cris de ceux qui ont moissonné sont entrés dans les oreilles de l'Éternel des armées.
5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
Vous avez vécu dans le luxe sur la terre, et vous avez pris votre plaisir. Vous avez nourri vos cœurs comme dans un jour de carnage.
6 Ye have condemned [and] killed the just; [and] he doth not resist you.
Vous avez condamné et vous avez assassiné le juste. Il ne vous résiste pas.
7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
Soyez donc patients, frères, jusqu'à l'avènement du Seigneur. Voici que le cultivateur attend le précieux fruit de la terre, en prenant patience à son égard, jusqu'à ce qu'il reçoive la pluie du matin et de l'après-midi.
8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
Vous aussi, soyez patients. Affermissez vos cœurs, car l'avènement du Seigneur est proche.
9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.
Ne rouspétez pas, frères, les uns contre les autres, afin de ne pas être jugés. Voici que le juge se tient à la porte.
10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
Prenez, frères, comme exemple de souffrance et de persévérance, les prophètes qui ont parlé au nom du Seigneur.
11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
Voici, nous les appelons bienheureux ceux qui ont enduré. Vous avez entendu parler de la persévérance de Job et vous avez vu le Seigneur dans le dénouement, et comment le Seigneur est plein de compassion et de miséricorde.
12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and [your] nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
Mais surtout, mes frères, ne jurez pas - ni par le ciel, ni par la terre, ni par aucun autre serment; mais que votre « oui » soit « oui », et votre « non », « non », afin que vous ne tombiez pas dans l'hypocrisie.
13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
Quelqu'un parmi vous souffre-t-il? Qu'il prie. Quelqu'un est-il joyeux? Qu'il chante des louanges.
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
Quelqu'un parmi vous est-il malade? Qu'il appelle les anciens de l'assemblée, et qu'ils prient pour lui, en l'oignant d'huile au nom du Seigneur.
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
La prière de la foi guérira le malade, et le Seigneur le relèvera. S'il a commis des péchés, il lui sera pardonné.
16 Confess [your] faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Confessez vos péchés les uns aux autres et priez les uns pour les autres, afin que vous soyez guéris. La prière insistante d'une personne juste est puissamment efficace.
17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
Elie était un homme d'une nature semblable à la nôtre. Il pria avec insistance pour qu'il ne pleuve pas, et il ne pleuvit pas sur la terre pendant trois ans et six mois.
18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
Il pria de nouveau, et le ciel donna de la pluie, et la terre produisit ses fruits.
19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
Frères, si quelqu'un parmi vous s'écarte de la vérité et que quelqu'un le ramène,
20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
qu'il sache que celui qui ramène un pécheur de l'erreur de sa voie sauvera une âme de la mort et couvrira une multitude de péchés.
