James 4
1 From whence [come] wars and fightings among you? [come they] not hence, [even] of your lusts that war in your members?
汝 等のうちの戰爭は何處よりか、分爭は何處よりか、汝らの肢體のうちに戰ふ慾より來るにあらずや。
2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
汝ら貪れども得ず、殺すことをなし、妬むことを爲れども得ること能はず、汝らは爭ひまた戰す。汝らの得ざるは求めざるに因りてなり。
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume [it] upon your lusts.
汝ら求めてなほ受けざるは慾のために費さんとて妄に求むるが故なり。
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
姦淫をおこなふ者よ、世の友となるは、神に敵するなるを知らぬか、誰にても世の友とならんと欲する者は、己を神の敵とするなり。
5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
聖書に『神は我らの衷に住ませ給ひし靈を、妬むほどに慕ひたまふ』と云へるを虚しきことと汝ら思ふか。
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
神は更に大なる恩惠を賜ふ。されば言ふ『神は高ぶる者を拒ぎ、へりくだる者に恩惠を與へ給ふ』と。
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
この故に汝ら神に服へ、惡魔に立ち向へ、さらば彼なんぢらを逃げ去らん。
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse [your] hands, [ye] sinners; and purify [your] hearts, [ye] double minded.
神に近づけ、さらば神なんぢらに近づき給はん。罪人よ、手を淨めよ、二心の者よ、心を潔よくせよ。
9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and [your] joy to heaviness.
なんぢら惱め、悲しめ、泣け、なんぢらの笑を悲歎に、なんぢらの歡喜を憂に易へよ。
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
主の前に己を卑うせよ、然らば主なんぢらを高うし給はん。
11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of [his] brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
兄弟よ、互に謗るな。兄弟を謗る者、兄弟を審く者は、これ律法を誹り、律法を審くなり。汝もし律法を審かば、律法をおこなふ者にあらずして審判 人なり。
12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
立法者また審判者は唯 一人にして、救ふことをも滅ぼすことをも爲し得るなり。なんぢ誰なれば隣を審くか。
13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
聽け『われら今日もしくは明日それがしの町に往きて、一年の間かしこに留り、賣買して利を得ん』と言ふ者よ、
14 Whereas ye know not what [shall be] on the morrow. For what [is] your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
汝らは明日のことを知らず、汝らの生命は何ぞ、暫く現れて遂に消ゆる霧なり。
15 For that ye [ought] to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
汝 等その言ふところに易へて『主の御意ならば、我ら活きて此のこと、或は彼のことを爲さん』と言ふべきなり。
16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
されど今なんぢらは高ぶりて誇る、斯くのごとき誇はみな惡しきなり。
17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth [it] not, to him it is sin.
人 善を行ふことを知りて、之を行はぬは罪なり。
