Isaiah 33
1 Woe to thee that spoilest, and thou [wast] not spoiled; and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! when thou shalt cease to spoil, thou shalt be spoiled; [and] when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee.
わざわいなるかな、おのれ自ら滅ぼされないのに、人を滅ぼし、だれも欺かないのに人を欺く者よ。あなたが滅ぼすことをやめたとき、あなたは滅ぼされ、あなたが欺くことを終えたとき、あなたは欺かれる。
2 O LORD, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble.
主よ、われわれをお恵みください、われわれはあなたを待ち望む。朝ごとに、われわれの腕となり、悩みの時に、救となってください。
3 At the noise of the tumult the people fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations were scattered.
鳴りとどろく声によって、もろもろの民は逃げ去り、あなたが立ちあがられると、もろもろの国は散らされる。
4 And your spoil shall be gathered [like] the gathering of the caterpiller: as the running to and fro of locusts shall he run upon them.
青虫が物を集めるようにぶんどり品は集められ、いなごのとびつどうように、人々はその上にとびつどう。
5 The LORD is exalted; for he dwelleth on high: he hath filled Zion with judgment and righteousness.
主は高くいらせられ、高い所に住まわれる。主はシオンに公平と正義とを満たされる。
6 And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, [and] strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD [is] his treasure.
また主は救と知恵と知識を豊かにして、あなたの代を堅く立てられる。主を恐れることはその宝である。
7 Behold, their valiant ones shall cry without: the ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly.
見よ、勇士たちは外にあって叫び、平和の使者はいたく嘆く。
8 The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: he hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth no man.
大路は荒れすたれて、旅びとは絶え、契約は破られ、証人は軽んぜられ、人を顧みることがない。
9 The earth mourneth [and] languisheth: Lebanon is ashamed [and] hewn down: Sharon is like a wilderness; and Bashan and Carmel shake off [their fruits].
地は嘆き衰え、レバノンは恥じて枯れ、シャロンは荒野のようになり、バシャンとカルメルはその葉を落す。
10 Now will I rise, saith the LORD; now will I be exalted; now will I lift up myself.
主は言われる、「今わたしは起きよう、いま立ちあがろう、いま自らを高くしよう。
11 Ye shall conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble: your breath, [as] fire, shall devour you.
あなたがたは、もみがらをはらみ、わらを産む。あなたがたの息は火となって、あなたがたを食いつくす。
12 And the people shall be [as] the burnings of lime: [as] thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire.
もろもろの民は焼かれて石灰のようになり、いばらが切られて火に燃やされたようになる」。
13 Hear, ye [that are] far off, what I have done; and, ye [that are] near, acknowledge my might.
あなたがた遠くにいる者よ、わたしがおこなったことを聞け。あなたがた近くにいる者よ、わが大能を知れ。
14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?
シオンの罪びとは恐れに満たされ、おののきは神を恐れない者を捕えた。「われわれのうち、だれが焼きつくす火の中におることができよう。われわれのうち、だれがとこしえの燃える火の中におることができよう」。
15 He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;
正しく歩む者、正直に語る者、しえたげて得た利をいやしめる者、手を振って、まいないを取らない者、耳をふさいで血を流す謀略を聞かない者、目を閉じて悪を見ない者、
16 He shall dwell on high: his place of defence [shall be] the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters [shall be] sure.
このような人は高い所に住み、堅い岩はそのとりでとなり、そのパンは与えられ、その水は絶えることがない。
17 Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off.
あなたの目は麗しく飾った王を見、遠く広い国を見る。
18 Thine heart shall meditate terror. Where [is] the scribe? where [is] the receiver? where [is] he that counted the towers?
あなたの心はかの恐ろしかった事を思い出す。「数を調べた者はどこにいるか。みつぎを量った者はどこにいるか。やぐらを数えた者はどこにいるか」。
19 Thou shalt not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech than thou canst perceive; of a stammering tongue, [that thou canst] not understand.
あなたはもはや高慢な民を見ない。かの民の言葉はあいまいで、聞きとりがたく、その舌はどもって、悟りがたい。
20 Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, a tabernacle [that] shall not be taken down; not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken.
定めの祭の町シオンを見よ。あなたの目は平和なすまい、移されることのない幕屋エルサレムを見る。その杭はとこしえに抜かれず、その綱は、ひとすじも断たれることはない。
21 But there the glorious LORD [will be] unto us a place of broad rivers [and] streams; wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby.
主は威厳をもってかしこにいまし、われわれのために広い川と流れのある所となり、その中には、こぐ舟も入らず、大きな船も過ぎることはない。
22 For the LORD [is] our judge, the LORD [is] our lawgiver, the LORD [is] our king; he will save us.
主はわれわれのさばき主、主はわれわれのつかさ、主はわれわれの王であって、われわれを救われる。
23 Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not well strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: then is the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame take the prey.
あなたの船綱は解けて、帆柱のもとを結びかためることができず、帆を張ることもできない。その時多くの獲物とぶんどり品は分けられ、足なえまでも獲物を取る。
24 And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein [shall be] forgiven [their] iniquity.
そこに住む者のうちには、「わたしは病気だ」と言う者はなく、そこに住む民はその罪がゆるされる。
