Isaiah 26
1 In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will [God] appoint [for] walls and bulwarks.
En ce jour-là sera chanté ce cantique dans le pays de Juda: Nous avons une ville forte: il a mis le salut pour murailles et pour remparts.
2 Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in.
Ouvrez les portes, et qu’elle entre, la nation juste qui garde la fidélité!
3 Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee: ] because he trusteth in thee.
Tu garderas dans une paix parfaite l’esprit qui s’appuie [sur toi], car il se confie en toi.
4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH [is] everlasting strength:
Confiez-vous en l’Éternel, à tout jamais; car en Jah, Jéhovah, est le rocher des siècles.
5 For he bringeth down them that dwell on high; the lofty city, he layeth it low; he layeth it low, [even] to the ground; he bringeth it [even] to the dust.
Car il abat ceux qui habitent en haut; il abaisse la ville haut élevée, il l’abaisse jusqu’en terre, il la fait descendre jusque dans la poussière:
6 The foot shall tread it down, [even] the feet of the poor, [and] the steps of the needy.
le pied la foulera, les pieds des affligés, les pas des misérables.
7 The way of the just [is] uprightness: thou, most upright, dost weigh the path of the just.
Le chemin du juste est la droiture. Toi qui es droit, tu aplanis le sentier du juste.
8 Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O LORD, have we waited for thee; the desire of [our] soul [is] to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee.
Oui, dans le chemin de tes jugements, ô Éternel, nous t’avons attendu; le désir de notre âme est après ton nom et après ton souvenir.
9 With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments [are] in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.
Mon âme te désire de nuit; oui, mon esprit, au-dedans de moi, te cherche diligemment; car, lorsque tes jugements sont sur la terre, les habitants du monde apprennent la justice.
10 Let favour be shewed to the wicked, [yet] will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD.
Si l’on use de grâce envers le méchant, il n’apprend pas la justice; dans le pays de la droiture il fait le mal, et il ne voit pas la majesté de l’Éternel.
11 LORD, [when] thy hand is lifted up, they will not see: [but] they shall see, and be ashamed for [their] envy at the people; yea, the fire of thine enemies shall devour them.
Ô Éternel, ta main est élevée, mais ils ne voient point; [mais] ils verront [ta] jalousie pour le peuple et seront honteux. Oui, le feu [qui attend] tes adversaires les dévorera.
12 LORD, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us.
Éternel, tu établiras la paix pour nous; car aussi toutes nos œuvres, tu les as opérées pour nous.
13 O LORD our God, [other] lords beside thee have had dominion over us: [but] by thee only will we make mention of thy name.
Éternel, notre Dieu, d’autres seigneurs que toi ont dominé sur nous: par toi seul nous ferons mention de ton nom.
14 [They are] dead, they shall not live; [they are] deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish.
Les morts ne vivront pas, les trépassés ne se relèveront pas; car tu les as visités, et tu les as exterminés, et tu as détruit toute mémoire d’eux.
15 Thou hast increased the nation, O LORD, thou hast increased the nation: thou art glorified: thou hadst removed [it] far [unto] all the ends of the earth.
Tu as augmenté la nation, ô Éternel; tu as augmenté la nation; tu as été glorifié: tu l’avais éloignée jusqu’à tous les bouts de la terre.
16 LORD, in trouble have they visited thee, they poured out a prayer [when] thy chastening [was] upon them.
Éternel, dans la détresse ils t’ont cherché; ils ont épanché [leur] prière à voix basse, lorsque tu les as châtiés.
17 Like as a woman with child, [that] draweth near the time of her delivery, is in pain, [and] crieth out in her pangs; so have we been in thy sight, O LORD.
Comme une femme enceinte, près d’enfanter, est dans les douleurs [et] crie dans ses peines, ainsi nous avons été devant toi, ô Éternel:
18 We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought forth wind; we have not wrought any deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen.
nous avons conçu, nous avons été dans les douleurs, nous avons comme enfanté du vent; nous n’avons pas opéré le salut du pays, et les habitants du monde ne sont pas tombés…
19 Thy dead [men] shall live, [together with] my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew [is as] the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.
Tes morts vivront, mes corps morts se relèveront. Réveillez-vous et exultez avec chant de triomphe, vous qui habitez dans la poussière; car ta rosée est la rosée de l’aurore, et la terre jettera dehors les trépassés.
20 Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.
Viens, mon peuple, entre dans tes chambres et ferme tes portes sur toi; cache-toi pour un petit moment, jusqu’à ce que l’indignation soit passée.
21 For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.
Car voici, l’Éternel sort de son lieu pour visiter l’iniquité des habitants de la terre sur eux, et la terre révélera son sang, et ne cachera plus ses tués.
