Isaiah 24
1 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.
見よ、主はこの地をむなしくし、これを荒れすたれさせ、これをくつがえして、その民を散らされる。
2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.
そして、その民も祭司もひとしく、しもべも主人もひとしく、はしためも主婦もひとしく、買う者も売る者もひとしく、貸す者も借りる者もひとしく、債権者も債務者もひとしく、この事にあう。
3 The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word.
地は全くむなしくされ、全くかすめられる。主がこの言葉を告げられたからである。
4 The earth mourneth [and] fadeth away, the world languisheth [and] fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.
地は悲しみ、衰え、世はしおれ、衰え、天も地と共にしおれはてる。
5 The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.
地はその住む民の下に汚された。これは彼らが律法にそむき、定めを犯し、とこしえの契約を破ったからだ。
6 Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.
それゆえ、のろいは地をのみつくし、そこに住む者はその罪に苦しみ、また地の民は焼かれて、わずかの者が残される。
7 The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do sigh.
新しいぶどう酒は悲しみ、ぶどうはしおれ、心の楽しい者もみな嘆く。
8 The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth.
鼓の音は静まり、喜ぶ者の騒ぎはやみ、琴の音もまた静まった。
9 They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.
彼らはもはや歌をうたって酒を飲まず、濃き酒はこれを飲む者に苦くなる。
10 The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in.
混乱せる町は破られ、すべての家は閉ざされて、はいることができない。
11 [There is] a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.
ちまたには酒の不足のために叫ぶ声があり、すべての喜びは暗くなり、地の楽しみは追いやられた。
12 In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.
町には荒れすたれた所のみ残り、その門もこわされて破れた。
13 When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, [there shall be] as the shaking of an olive tree, [and] as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done.
地のうちで、もろもろの民のなかで残るものは、オリブの木の打たれた後の実のように、ぶどうの収穫の終った後にその採り残りを集めるときのようになる。
14 They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry aloud from the sea.
彼らは声をあげて喜び歌う。主の威光のゆえに、西から喜び呼ばわる。
15 Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires, [even] the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea.
それゆえ、東で主をあがめ、海沿いの国々でイスラエルの神、主の名をあがめよ。
16 From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, [even] glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.
われわれは地の果から、さんびの歌を聞いた、「栄光は正しい者にある」と。しかし、わたしは言う、「わたしはやせ衰える、わたしはやせ衰える、わたしはわざわいだ。欺く者はあざむき、欺く者は、はなはだしくあざむく」。
17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, [are] upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
地に住む者よ、恐れと、落し穴と、わなとはあなたの上にある。
18 And it shall come to pass, [that] he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.
恐れの声をのがれる者は落し穴に陥り、落し穴から出る者はわなに捕えられる。天の窓は開け、地の基が震い動くからである。
19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.
地は全く砕け、地は裂け、地は激しく震い、
20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.
地は酔いどれのようによろめき、仮小屋のようにゆり動く。そのとがはその上に重く、ついに倒れて再び起きあがることはない。
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones [that are] on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.
その日、主は天において、天の軍勢を罰し、地の上で、地のもろもろの王を罰せられる。
22 And they shall be gathered together, [as] prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.
彼らは囚人が土ろうの中に集められるように集められて、獄屋の中に閉ざされ、多くの日を経て後、罰せられる。
23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.
こうして万軍の主がシオンの山およびエルサレムで統べ治め、かつその長老たちの前にその栄光をあらわされるので、月はあわて、日は恥じる。
