Genesis 23
1 And Sarah was an hundred and seven and twenty years old: [these were] the years of the life of Sarah.
Or Sara vécut cent vingt-sept ans.
2 And Sarah died in Kirjath-arba; the same [is] Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.
Et elle mourut dans la ville d’Arbée, qui est Hébron, dans la terre de Chanaan; et Abraham vint pour faire le deuil et pour la pleurer.
3 And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying,
Et lorsqu’il se fut levé après les devoirs funéraires, il parla aux fils de Heth, disant:
4 I [am] a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.
Je suis parmi vous étranger et voyageur: donnez-moi le droit de sépulture chez vous, afin que j’ensevelisse mon mort.
5 And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him,
Les fils de Heth répondirent, disant:
6 Hear us, my lord: thou [art] a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.
Ecoute-nous, seigneur, tu es un prince de Dieu au milieu de nous; ensevelis ton mort dans le plus beau de nos sépulcres; nul ne pourra t’empêcher d’ensevelir ton mort dans son tombeau.
7 And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, [even] to the children of Heth.
Abraham se leva, et se prosterna devant le peuple de ce pays, c’est-à-dire, les fils de Heth;
8 And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and intreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,
Et il leur dit: S’il plaît à votre âme que j’ensevelisse mon mort, écoutez-moi et intercédez pour moi auprès d’Ephron, fils de Séor,
9 That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which [is] in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you.
Afin qu’il me donne la caverne double qu’il a à l’extrémité de son champ; que pour un prix convenable, il me la livre devant vous, afin que j’y possède un sépulcre.
10 And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, [even] of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,
Or, Ephron habitait au milieu des fils de Heth. Ephron répondit donc à Abraham, devant tous ceux qui entraient à la porte de la ville, disant:
11 Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that [is] therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.
Non, il n’en sera pas ainsi, mon seigneur; mais toi, écoute plutôt ce que je dis: Je te livre le champ et la caverne qui est dans ce champ, en présence des fils de mon peuple; ensevelis ton mort.
12 And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.
Abraham se prosterna devant le peuple de ce pays,
13 And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou [wilt give it], I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take [it] of me, and I will bury my dead there.
Et dit à Ephron, le peuple l’environnant: Je te prie de m’écouter; je donnerai l’argent pour le champ; prends-le, et ainsi j’y ensevelirai mon mort.
14 And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him,
Et Ephron répondit:
15 My lord, hearken unto me: the land [is worth] four hundred shekels of silver; what [is] that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.
Mon seigneur, écoute-moi: la terre que tu demandes vaut quatre cents sicles d’argent; c’est le prix entre moi et toi; mais qu’est-ce que cela? ensevelis ton mort.
16 And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current [money] with the merchant.
Ce qu’Abraham ayant entendu, il fit peser l’argent qu’Ephron avait demandé, en présence des fils de Heth, quatre cents sicles d’argent en monnaie de bon aloi et ayant cours.
17 And the field of Ephron, which [was] in Machpelah, which [was] before Mamre, the field, and the cave which [was] therein, and all the trees that [were] in the field, that [were] in all the borders round about, were made sure
Et le champ jadis d’Ephron, dans lequel était une caverne double, en face de Mambré, aussi bien que la caverne et tous les arbres qui bordaient le champ de tous côtés, fut assuré
18 Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.
A Abraham comme propriété sous les yeux des fils de Heth et de tous ceux qui entraient à la porte de la ville.
19 And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same [is] Hebron in the land of Canaan.
Et ainsi Abraham ensevelit Sara sa femme dans la caverne double du champ, en face de Mambré; c’est Hébron, dans la terre de Chanaan.
20 And the field, and the cave that [is] therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.
Le champ donc et la caverne qui étaient dans le champ furent assurés à Abraham comme propriété de tombeau, par les fils de Heth.
