Galatians 2
1 Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with [me] also.
Depois de passados catorze anos, subi outra vez a Jerusalém com Barnabé, levando comigo também Tito.
2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.
E, por causa de uma revelação, subi, e lhes declarei o Evangelho que prego entre os gentios. [Isso], porém, foi em particular, com os mais influentes, para que eu eu não corresse ou tivesse corrido em vão.
3 But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised:
Porém nem mesmo Tito, que estava comigo, sendo grego, foi obrigado a se circuncidar.
4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:
E [isso] por causa de falsos irmãos, que haviam se infiltrado, e entraram secretamente para espionar a nossa liberdade que temos em Cristo Jesus, a fim de nos tornar escravos.
5 To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.
A eles nem sequer por um momento cedemos a nos sujeitarmos, para que a verdade do Evangelho permanecesse em vós.
6 But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man’s person: ) for they who seemed [to be somewhat] in conference added nothing to me:
E quanto aos de maior influência (o que haviam sido antes não me importa; Deus não se interessa na aparência humana); esses, pois, que eram influentes, nada me acrescentaram.
7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as [the gospel] of the circumcision [was] unto Peter;
Pelo contrário, quando viram que o Evangelho aos incircuncisos havia sido confiado a mim, assim como a Pedro, aos circuncisos,
8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles: )
(pois aquele que operou em Pedro para o apostolado da circuncisão, esse operou também em mim para os gentios)
9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we [should go] unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.
e quando Tiago, Cefas, e João, que eram considerados como colunas, reconheceram a graça que me foi dada, eles estenderam as mãos direitas de comunhão a mim e a Barnabé, para que nós [fôssemos] aos gentios, e eles aos circuncisos;
10 Only [they would] that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.
sob a condição de que nos lembrássemos dos pobres; isso também procurei fazer com empenho.
11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.
E quando Cefas veio a Antioquia, estive contra ele face a face, pois ele devia ser repreendido;
12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.
porque, antes que alguns que Tiago enviou chegassem, ele comia com os gentios; mas depois que chegaram, ele se retirou e se separou, temendo os que eram da circuncisão.
13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.
E também com ele os outros judeus fingiram, de maneira que até Barnabé se deixou levar pela hipocrisia deles.
14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before [them] all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?
Mas quando vi que não estavam agindo corretamente conforme a verdade do Evangelho, disse na presença de todos a Cefas: “Se tu, que és judeu, vives como gentio, e não como judeu, como obrigas os gentios a viverem como judeus?”
15 We [who are] Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,
Nós, que somos judeus por natureza, e não pecadores dentre os gentios,
16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
sabemos que o ser humano não é justificado pelas obras da Lei, mas sim pela fé em Cristo Jesus. Também nós temos crido em Cristo Jesus, para que fôssemos justificados pela fé em Cristo, e não pelas obras da Lei; pois ninguém se justificará pelas obras da Lei.
17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, [is] therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.
Mas se nós, que buscamos ser justificados em Cristo, também nós mesmos somos achados pecadores, por isso Cristo contribui com o pecado? De maneira nenhuma!
18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
Pois, se volto a construir as coisas que já destruí, provo que eu mesmo cometi transgressão.
19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
Pois pela Lei estou morto para a Lei, a fim de que eu viva para Deus.
20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Já estou crucificado com Cristo. Estou vivendo não mais eu, mas Cristo vive em mim; e vivo a minha vida na carne por meio da fé no Filho de Deus, que me amou, e entregou a si mesmo por mim.
21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness [come] by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
Não anulo a graça de Deus; pois, se a justiça é por meio da Lei, logo Cristo morreu por nada.
