Ephesians 4
1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
第一項 教會一致の必要 然れば主に在りて囚人たる我、汝等に希ふ、汝等召されたる所の召に相應しく、
2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
凡ての謙遜と温良とを以て歩み、忍耐して愛を以て相忍び、
3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
平和の繋にて精神の一致を保つ様注意せよ。
4 [There is] one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
體は一、精神は一、猶汝等が召されたる其召の希望の一なるが如し。
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
主は一、信仰は一、洗禮は一、
6 One God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all.
一同の上に在し一同を貫き、一同の中に住み給へる一同の神及び父は一のみ。
7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
然るに我等面々に賜はりたる恩寵は、キリストの賜ひたる量に應ず、
8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
此故に[聖霊に]曰く、「上に昇りて俘を伴ひ行き、人々に賜を與へ給へり」と。
9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
抑昇り給ひしは、前に地の低き處まで降り給ひし故に非ずして何ぞや。
10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
降り給ひしものは、亦萬物に充満たんとて、諸の天の上に昇り給ひしものなり。
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
又或人々を使徒とし、或人々を預言者とし、或人々を福音者とし、或人々を牧師及び教師として與へ給へり。
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
是聖徒等の全うせられ、聖役の営まれ、キリストの御體の成立たん為めなり。
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
即ち我等が悉く、信仰と神の御子を識る知識との一致に至りて完全なる人となり、キリストの全き成長の量に至らん為にして、
14 That we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
我等は最早小兒たらず、漂はさるる事なく、人の僞と誤謬の巧なる誘惑との為に、敦の教の風にも吹廻されず、
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, [even] Christ:
眞理に在りて、愛により萬事に就て頭に在す者即ちキリストに於て成長せん為なり。
16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
彼によりてこそ體全體に固り且整ひ、各四肢の分量に應ずる働に從ひて、凡ての関節の助を以て相聨り、自ら成長し、愛によりて成立つに至るなれ。
17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
第二項 キリスト教の聖徳は異教人の惡徳に反す 故に我之を言ひ、且主に於て希ふ、汝等最早異邦人の如く歩むこと勿れ、彼等は己が精神の空しきに任せて歩み、
18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
智恵を暗まされ、身に有てる不知の為に、其心の頑固によりて神の生命より遠ざかり、
19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
感ずる事なく、放蕩に、所有る淫亂の業に、貪欲に、己を委ねたるなり。
20 But ye have not so learned Christ;
然れど汝等がキリストを學びしは斯の如き事に非ず、
21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
若之に聴きて、眞理のイエズスに在るが儘に、彼に就きて學びしならば、
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
即ち以前の行状に就きては、迷の望に從ひて腐敗する舊き人を脱棄て、
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
精神の主義を一新し、
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
神に象りて眞理より出づる義と聖徳とに於て造られたる新しき人を着る事を學びしなり。
25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
然れば汝等僞を棄てて、各近き人と共に眞を語れ、我等は互の肢なればなり。
26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
汝等怒るとも罪を犯す事勿れ、汝等の怒の間に日没るべからず。
27 Neither give place to the devil.
惡魔に機會を與ふる事勿れ、
28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with [his] hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
盗める人は最早盗むべからず、寧困窮せる人々に物を施す事を得ん為に、働きて善き手業を為せ。
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
不潔なる談話は一切汝等の口より出すべからず、善きものならば聞く人々に恩寵を與へん為、要する人の徳を立つる様に之を為せ。
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
救の日を期して證印せられ奉りたる神の聖霊をして憂へしむる勿れ、
31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
総て苦き事、怒、憤、叫、罵をば一切の惡心と共に汝等の中より取除け。
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
然て互に慈悲親切にして相恕す事、神もキリストに於て汝等を赦し給ひしが如くにせよ。
