Ephesians 4
1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
Je vous conjure donc, moi chargé de liens pour le Seigneur, de marcher d’une manière digne de la vocation à laquelle vous avez été appelés,
2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
Avec toute humilité et toute mansuétude, avec toute patience, vous supportant mutuellement en charité;
3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Appliqués à conserver l’unité d’esprit, par le hen de la paix.
4 [There is] one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
Soyez un seul corps et un seul esprit comme vous avez été appelés à une seule espérance dans votre vocation.
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
Il y a un seul Seigneur, une seule foi, un seul baptême,
6 One God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all.
Un seul Dieu et Père de tous, qui est au-dessus de tous, et au milieu de toutes choses, et en nous tous.
7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
Or à chacun de nous a été donnée la grâce, selon la mesure du don de Jésus-Christ.
8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
C’est pourquoi l’Ecriture dit: Montant au ciel, il a conduit une captivité captive; il a donné des dons aux hommes.
9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
Mais qu’est-ce: Il est monté, sinon qu’il est descendu auparavant dans les parties inférieures de la terre?
10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
Celui qui est descendu est le même qui est monté au-dessus de tous les cieux, afin qu’il remplît toutes choses.
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Et c’est lui qui a fait les uns apôtres, les autres prophètes, d’autres évangélistes, d’autres pasteurs et docteurs,
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Pour la perfection des saints, pour l’œuvre du ministère, pour l’édification du corps du Christ,
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
Jusqu’à ce que nous parvenions tous à l’unité de la foi et de la connaissance du Fils de Dieu, à l’état d’un homme parfait, à la mesure de l’âge de la plénitude du Christ;
14 That we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Afin que nous ne soyons plus comme de petits enfants qui flottent, ni emportés çà et là à tout vent de doctrine, par la méchanceté des hommes, par l’astuce qui entraîne dans le piège de l’erreur.
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, [even] Christ:
Mais que pratiquant la vérité dans la charité, nous croissions en toutes choses dans celui qui est le chef, le Christ,
16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
En vertu duquel tout le corps uni et lié par toutes les jointures qui se prêtent un mutuel secours, d’après une opération proportionnée à chaque membre, reçoit son accroissement pour être édifié dans la charité.
17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
Je vous dis donc, et je vous conjure par le Seigneur de ne plus marcher comme les gentils, qui marchent dans la vanité de leurs pensées,
18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
Qui ont l’intelligence obscurcie de ténèbres, entièrement éloignés de la vie de Dieu, par l’ignorance qui est en eux, à cause de l’aveuglement de leur cœur;
19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
Qui, ayant perdu tout espoir, se sont livrés à l’impudicité, à toutes sortes de dissolutions, à l’avarice.
20 But ye have not so learned Christ;
Pour vous, ce n’est pas ainsi que vous avez été instruits touchant le Christ;
21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
Si cependant vous l’avez écouté, et si vous avez appris de lui, selon la vérité de sa doctrine,
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
À dépouiller, par rapport à votre première vie, le vieil homme qui se corrompt par les désirs de l’erreur.
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Renouvelez-vous dans l’esprit de votre âme,
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Et revêtez-vous de l’homme nouveau, qui a été créé selon Dieu dans la justice et la sainteté de la vérité.
25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
C’est, pourquoi, quittant le mensonge, que chacun dise la vérité avec son prochain, parce que nous sommes membres les uns des autres.
26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
Irritez-vous et ne péchez point; que le soleil ne se couche point sur votre colère.
27 Neither give place to the devil.
Ne donnez point lieu au diable.
28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with [his] hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
Que celui qui dérobait ne dérobe plus, mais plutôt qu’il s’occupe, en travaillant de ses mains, à ce qui est bon, pour avoir de quoi donner à qui souffre du besoin.
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Qu’aucun discours mauvais ne sorte de votre bouche; que s’il en sort quelqu’un, qu’il soit bon pour édifier la foi, et donner la grâce à ceux qui l’écoutent;
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Et ne contristez point l’Esprit-Saint, dont vous avez reçu le sceau pour le jour de la rédemption.
31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Que toute amertume, toute colère, tout emportement, toute clameur et toute diffamation soit bannie de vous, avec toute malice.
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
Mais soyez bons les uns envers les autres, miséricordieux, vous pardonnant mutuellement, comme Dieu lui-même vous a pardonné en Jésus-Christ.
