Ephesians 2
1 And you [hath he quickened], who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Vous aussi, vous étiez morts par les fautes, par les péchés
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: (aiōn g165)
auxquels vous vous êtes autrefois livrés sous l'influence de notre siècle mondain, sous l'influence de celui qui commande aux puissances qui sont dans l'air, je parle de cet Esprit qui agit aujourd'hui dans les hommes rebelles. (aiōn g165)
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
Oui, nous tous, nous cédions autrefois à nos passions charnelles, nous obéissions à tous les caprices de la chair et des sens, et nous étions naturellement enfants de colère comme les autres hommes.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Mais Dieu, dans la richesse de sa miséricorde et au nom du grand amour dont il nous aimait,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved; )
nous a fait revivre avec le Christ, nous que nos fautes avaient déjà fait mourir (c'est par grâce que vous êtes sauvés);
6 And hath raised [us] up together, and made [us] sit together in heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus:
il nous a ressuscités, et nous a assigné une place dans les cieux par Jésus-Christ.
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in [his] kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. (aiōn g165)
Ainsi montre-t-il à tous les âges à venir l'extraordinaire richesse de sa grâce, par la bonté qu'il a eue pour nous en Jésus-Christ; (aiōn g165)
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:
car c'est par la grâce que vous êtes sauvés, au moyen de la foi; et cela ne vient pas de vous, c'est un don de Dieu.
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Ce n'est pas l'effet de vos oeuvres, et personne n'a à s'en glorifier;
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
car nous sommes son ouvrage; nous avons été créés en Jésus-Christ pour faire de bonnes oeuvres, et Dieu nous a rendus d'avance capables de les pratiquer.
11 Wherefore remember, that ye [being] in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
Souvenez-vous donc qu'autrefois, vous, païens de naissance, ceux qui s'appelaient les circoncis, parce qu'ils l'étaient de main d'homme dans leur corps, vous appelaient les incirconcis;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
souvenez-vous, dis-je, que vous étiez alors sans Christ, privés du droit de cité en Israël, étrangers aux alliances et aux promesses, n'ayant ni espérance ni Dieu dans le monde.
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Maintenant, au contraire, étant en Jésus-Christ, vous qui étiez autrefois éloignés, vous vous êtes rapprochés par le sang du Christ.
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition [between us];
Car c'est lui qui est notre paix; il a réuni les deux peuples, il a abattu le mur de séparation, il a fait disparaître leur inimitié
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, [even] the law of commandments [contained] in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, [so] making peace;
en anéantissant par sa mort, la Loi, les ordonnances, les commandements; de la sorte il a formé en lui-même, avec les deux hommes, un seul homme nouveau, il a fait, la paix,
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
et, tous deux, réunis en un seul corps, il les a réconciliés avec Dieu par la croix, sur laquelle il fit mourir en sa personne leur inimitié.
17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
Il est venu vous annoncer «La paix» à vous «qui étiez au loin comme à ceux qui étaient près».
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
Car, grâce à lui, nous pouvons avoir, tous les deux, accès auprès du Père dans un même Esprit.
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
Vous n'êtes donc plus ni étrangers, ni intrus, vous êtes concitoyens des saints et membres de la famille de Dieu;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone];
vous avez été édifiés sur le fondement posé par les apôtres qui sont aussi prophètes, fondement dont la pierre angulaire est Jésus-Christ.
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
L'édifice entier, solidement élevé sur elle, deviendra un saint temple dans le Seigneur;
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
et c'est sur elle que vous aussi avez été élevés pour servir à Dieu d'habitation spirituelle.
