Ecclesiastes 1
1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.
೧ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅರಸನಾಗಿದ್ದ ದಾವೀದನ ಮಗನಾದ ಪ್ರಸಂಗಿಯ ಮಾತುಗಳು.
2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all [is] vanity.
೨ಪ್ರಸಂಗಿಯು ಹೀಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ. “ವ್ಯರ್ಥವೇ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ, ವ್ಯರ್ಥವೇ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ, ಸಮಸ್ತವೂ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ.
3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
೩ಈ ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಪಡುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಪ್ರಯಾಸದಿಂದ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಲಾಭವೇನು?
4 [One] generation passeth away, and [another] generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
೪ಒಂದು ಸಂತತಿಯು ಹೋಗುವುದು, ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಸಂತತಿಯು ಬರುವುದು, ಆದರೆ ಭೂಮಿಯು ಶಾಶ್ವತವಾಗಿ ನಿಲ್ಲುವುದು.
5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.
೫ಸೂರ್ಯನು ಉದಯಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಸೂರ್ಯನು ಮುಳುಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ತಾನು ಉದಯಿಸುವ ಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಅವಸರವಾಗಿ ಹಿಂತಿರುಗಿ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾನೆ.
6 The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
೬ಗಾಳಿಯು ದಕ್ಷಿಣದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಬೀಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಉತ್ತರದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ತಿರುಗುವುದು. ಅದು ಸುತ್ತುತ್ತಾ ಸುತ್ತುತ್ತಾ ಹೋಗಿ, ಗಾಳಿ ಸುತ್ತಳತೆಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗುತ್ತವೆ.
7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea [is] not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
೭ನದಿಗಳೆಲ್ಲಾ ಸಮುದ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಹರಿದು ಹೋಗುತ್ತವೆ. ಆದರೂ ಸಮುದ್ರವು ತುಂಬುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ನದಿಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಬಂದಿವೆಯೋ ಅದೇ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಹಿಂತಿರುಗುತ್ತವೆ.
8 All things [are] full of labour; man cannot utter [it: ] the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
೮ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು ಪ್ರಯಾಸದಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ವಿವರಿಸಲಾರನು. ನೋಡುವುದರಿಂದ ಕಣ್ಣು ತೃಪ್ತಿಗೊಳ್ಳದು, ಕೇಳುವುದರಿಂದ ಕಿವಿಯು ದಣಿಯದು.
9 The thing that hath been, it [is that] which shall be; and that which is done [is] that which shall be done: and [there is] no new [thing] under the sun.
೯ಇದ್ದದ್ದೇ ಇರುವುದು, ನಡೆದದ್ದೇ ನಡೆಯುವುದು. ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಹೊಸದಾದದ್ದು ಯಾವುದೂ ಇಲ್ಲ.
10 Is there [any] thing whereof it may be said, See, this [is] new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
೧೦‘ನೋಡು, ಇದು ಹೊಸದು’ ಎಂದು ಯಾವ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಾದರೂ ಹೇಳಬಹುದೋ? ನಮಗಿಂತ ಮೊದಲು ಇದ್ದದ್ದು, ಪುರಾತನ ಕಾಲದಿಂದ ಇದ್ದದ್ದೇ.
11 [There is] no remembrance of former [things; ] neither shall there be [any] remembrance of [things] that are to come with [those] that shall come after.
೧೧ಪುರಾತನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಸಂಗತಿಗಳ ಜ್ಞಾಪಕವು ಈಗಿನ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಮುಂದಿನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವ ಸಂಗತಿಗಳ ಜ್ಞಾಪಕವು ಮುಂದಿನ ಕಾಲದ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.”
12 I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
೧೨ಪ್ರಸಂಗಿಯಾದ ನಾನು ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರಿಗೆ ಅರಸನಾಗಿದ್ದೆನು.
13 And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all [things] that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.
೧೩ಆಕಾಶದ ಕೆಳಗಡೆ ನಡೆಯುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ಜ್ಞಾನದಿಂದ ವಿಚಾರಿಸಿ ವಿಮರ್ಶಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟೆನು. ದೇವರು ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಮೇಲೆ ನೇಮಿಸಿರುವ ಕೆಲಸವೆಲ್ಲಾ ಬಹು ಪ್ರಯಾಸವೇ.
14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all [is] vanity and vexation of spirit.
೧೪ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಆಹಾ, ಗಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಸಮಸ್ತವೂ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ.
15 [That which is] crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.
೧೫ವಕ್ರವಾದದ್ದನ್ನು ಸರಿಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ! ಇಲ್ಲದ್ದನ್ನು ಲೆಕ್ಕಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಅಸಾಧ್ಯ!
16 I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all [they] that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.
೧೬ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಯೋಚಿಸುತ್ತಾ, “ನೋಡು, ನನಗಿಂತ ಮೊದಲು ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮನ್ನು ಆಳಿದವರೆಲ್ಲರಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಸಂಪಾದಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ನನ್ನ ಹೃದಯವು ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನೂ, ತಿಳಿವಳಿಕೆಯನ್ನೂ ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಹೊಂದಿದೆ” ಎಂದುಕೊಂಡೆನು.
17 And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.
೧೭ಆಗ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನೂ, ಹುಚ್ಚುತನವನ್ನೂ, ಬುದ್ಧಿಹೀನತೆಯನ್ನೂ ಗ್ರಹಿಸಲು ನಾನು ಮನಸ್ಸಿಟ್ಟೆನು. ಇದು ಸಹ ಗಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಎಂದು ನಾನು ಅರಿತುಕೊಂಡೆನು.
18 For in much wisdom [is] much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
೧೮ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಬಹಳ ಜ್ಞಾನವಿದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ಸಂಕಟ. ಹೆಚ್ಚು ತಿಳಿವಳಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದವನಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ವ್ಯಥೆ ಇದೆ.
