Deuteronomy 23

1 He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

Un eunuque dont les parties génératrices auront été froissées, ou amputées, ou arrachées, n’entrera point dans l’assemblée du Seigneur.

2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

Un bâtard, c’est-à-dire, un homme né d’une prostituée, n’entrera point dans l’assemblée du Seigneur, jusqu’à la dixième génération.

3 An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever:

L’Ammonite et le Moabite n’entreront point dans l’assemblée du Seigneur, même après la dixième génération, à jamais,

4 Because they met you not with bread and with water in the way, when ye came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against thee Balaam the son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse thee.

Parce qu’ils n’ont pas voulu venir au-devant de vous avec le pain et l’eau, dans le chemin, lorsque vous êtes sortis de l’Egypte; et parce qu’ils ont gagné contre toi Balaam, fils de Béor, de la Mésopotamie de Syrie, afin qu’il te maudît;

5 Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee.

Mais le Seigneur ton Dieu ne voulut point écouter Balaam, et il changea sa malédiction en bénédiction pour toi, parce qu’il t’aimait.

6 Thou shalt not seek their peace nor their prosperity all thy days for ever.

Tu ne feras point de paix avec eux, et tu ne rechercheras aucun bien pour eux durant tous les jours de ta vie, à jamais.

7 Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he [is] thy brother: thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a stranger in his land.

Tu n’auras point l’Iduméen en abomination, parce qu’il est ton frère; ni l’Egyptien, parce que tu as été étranger dans sa terre.

8 The children that are begotten of them shall enter into the congregation of the LORD in their third generation.

Ceux qui seront nés d’eux, à la troisième génération, entreront dans l’assemblée du Seigneur.

9 When the host goeth forth against thine enemies, then keep thee from every wicked thing.

Quand tu sortiras contre tes ennemis pour un combat, tu te garderas de toute chose mauvaise.

10 If there be among you any man, that is not clean by reason of uncleanness that chanceth him by night, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp:

S’il se trouve parmi vous un homme qui a été souillé dans un songe nocturne, il sortira hors du camp,

11 But it shall be, when evening cometh on, he shall wash [himself] with water: and when the sun is down, he shall come into the camp [again].

Et il n’y reviendra point, avant qu’il ne se soit lavé vers le soir, dans l’eau; et après le coucher du soleil, il reviendra dans le camp.

12 Thou shalt have a place also without the camp, whither thou shalt go forth abroad:

Tu auras un lieu hors du camp, où tu iras pour les besoins de la nature,

13 And thou shalt have a paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee:

Portant un pieu à la ceinture; et lorsque tu voudras l’asseoir, tu feras un trou en rond, et tu couvriras de terre ce qui est sorti de toi,

14 For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee.

Après que tu te seras relevé de là (car le Seigneur ton Dieu marche au milieu de ton camp, pour te délivrer, et te livrer tes ennemis); ainsi, que ton camp soit saint, et qu’il n’y paraisse aucune saleté, de peur qu’il ne t’abandonne.

15 Thou shalt not deliver unto his master the servant which is escaped from his master unto thee:

Tu ne livreras point à son maître l’esclave qui se sera réfugié près de toi;

16 He shall dwell with thee, [even] among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of thy gates, where it liketh him best: thou shalt not oppress him.

Il habitera avec toi dans le lieu qui lui plaira, et il se reposera dans une de tes villes; ne le contriste pas.

17 There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.

Il n’y aura point de femme publique d’entre les filles d’Israël, ni de prostitué d’entre les enfants d’Israël.

18 Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these [are] abomination unto the LORD thy God.

Tu n’offriras point la récompense de la prostitution, ni le prix d’un chien, dans la maison du Seigneur ton Dieu, quoi que ce soit que tu aies voué, parce que l’un et l’autre est une abomination auprès du Seigneur ton Dieu.

19 Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother; usury of money, usury of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent upon usury:

Tu ne prêteras à usure à ton frère, ni argent, ni grains, ni quelque autre chose que ce soit;

20 Unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land whither thou goest to possess it.

Mais à l’étranger. Quant à ton frère, ce sera sans usure, que tu lui prêteras ce dont il aura besoin, afin que le Seigneur ton Dieu te bénisse en toutes tes œuvres, dans la terre dans laquelle tu entreras pour la posséder.

21 When thou shalt vow a vow unto the LORD thy God, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee.

Lorsque tu auras voué un vœu au Seigneur ton Dieu, tu ne tarderas point à l’acquitter, parce que le Seigneur ton Dieu te le redemandera; et si tu diffères il te sera imputé à péché.

22 But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in thee.

Si tu ne veux point promettre, tu seras sans péché.

23 That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and perform; [even] a freewill offering, according as thou hast vowed unto the LORD thy God, which thou hast promised with thy mouth.

Mais ce qui une fois est sorti de tes lèvres, tu l’observeras, et tu feras comme tu as promis au Seigneur ton Dieu; car tu as parlé par ta propre volonté et par ta bouche.

24 When thou comest into thy neighbour’s vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure; but thou shalt not put [any] in thy vessel.

Entré dans la vigne de ton prochain, mange des raisins autant qu’il te plaira; mais n’en emporte point dehors avec toi.

25 When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbour, then thou mayest pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou shalt not move a sickle unto thy neighbour’s standing corn.

Si tu entres dans les blés de ton ami, tu cueilleras des épis et tu les broieras avec la main; mais tu n’en couperas pas avec la faux.
