Acts 4
1 And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,
Or, pendant qu’ils parlaient au peuple, survinrent les prêtres, et le magistrat du temple, et les sadducéens,
2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
Courroucés de ce qu’ils enseignaient le peuple, et annonçaient en Jésus la résurrection des morts;
3 And they laid hands on them, and put [them] in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.
Et ils mirent la main sur eux, et les jetèrent en prison jusqu’au lendemain, car il était déjà soir.
4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.
Cependant beaucoup de ceux qui avaient entendu la parole crurent, et le nombre des hommes fut de cinq mille.
5 And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes,
Or il arriva le lendemain que leurs chefs, les anciens et les scribes, s’assemblèrent à Jérusalem,
6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.
Et aussi Anne, prince des prêtres, Caïphe, Jean, Alexandre, et tous ceux qui étaient de la race sacerdotale.
7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?
Et les faisant placer au milieu, ils demandaient: Par quelle puissance et en quel nom avez-vous fait cela, vous?
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,
Alors, rempli de l’Esprit-Saint, Pierre leur dit: Princes du peuple, et vous, anciens, écoutez:
9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;
Puisque aujourd’hui nous sommes jugés à cause d’un bienfait en faveur d’un homme infirme, et à cause de celui en qui il a été guéri,
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, [even] by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
Qu’il soit connu de vous tous et de tout le peuple d’Israël que c’est au nom de Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ de Nazareth, que vous avez crucifié et que Dieu a ressuscité des morts; c’est par lui que cet homme est ici devant vous, debout et sain.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
Ce Jésus est la pierre qui a été rejetée par vous qui bâtissiez, et qui est devenue un sommet d’angle;
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Et il n’y a de salut en aucun autre; car nul autre nom n’a été donné sous le ciel aux hommes, par lequel nous devions être sauvés.
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
Voyant donc la constance de Pierre et de Jean, et ayant appris que c’étaient des hommes sans lettres, et du commun, ils s’étonnaient; ils savaient d’ailleurs qu’ils avaient été avec Jésus.
14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
Voyant aussi debout près d’eux l’homme qui avait été guéri, ils ne pouvaient rien dire contre.
15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,
Mais ils leur ordonnèrent de sortir du Conseil, et ils conféraient entre eux,
16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them [is] manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we can not deny [it].
Disant: Que ferons-nous à ces hommes? Car un miracle fait par eux est connu de tous les habitants de Jérusalem; cela est manifeste, et nous ne pouvons le nier.
17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.
Mais, afin qu’il ne se divulgue pas davantage parmi le peuple, défendons-leur avec menaces de parler désormais en ce nom à aucun homme.
18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
Et les ayant appelés, ils leur enjoignirent de ne parler ni d’enseigner en aucune sorte au nom de Jésus.
19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
Mais Pierre et Jean, répondant, leur dirent: S’il est juste devant Dieu de vous obéir plutôt qu’à Dieu, jugez-en?
20 For we can not but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
Car nous ne pouvons pas ne point parler de ce que nous avons vu et entendu.
21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all [men] glorified God for that which was done.
Mais eux les renvoyèrent avec menaces, ne trouvant pas comment les punir à cause du peuple, parce que tous vantaient beaucoup ce qui était arrivé dans cet événement.
22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.
Car il avait plus de quarante ans, l’homme sur qui avait été fait ce miracle de la guérison.
23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.
Ainsi renvoyés, ils vinrent vers les leurs, et leur racontèrent tout ce que les princes des prêtres et les anciens leur avaient dit.
24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou [art] God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:
Ce qu’ayant entendu, ceux-ci élevèrent unanimement la voix vers Dieu, et dirent: Seigneur, c’est vous qui avez fait le ciel et la terre, et la mer, et tout ce qui est en eux;
25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?
Qui par l’Esprit-Saint et par la bouche de nôtre père David, votre serviteur, avez dit: Pourquoi les nations ont-elles frémi, et les peuples médité des choses vaines?
26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.
Pourquoi les rois de la terre se sont-ils levés, et les princes se sont-ils ligués contre le Seigneur et contre son Christ?
27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,
Car Hérode et Ponce-Pilate se sont vraiment ligués dans cette cité avec les gentils et les peuples d’Israël, contre votre saint Fils Jésus que vous avez consacré par votre onction,
28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.
Pour faire ce que votre bras et votre conseil avaient décrété qui serait fait.
29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
Et maintenant. Seigneur, regardez leurs menaces, et donnez à vos serviteurs d’annoncer votre parole en toute confiance,
30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.
En étendant votre main pour que des guérisons, des miracles et des prodiges soient faits par le nom de votre saint Fils Jésus.
31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
Et quand ils eurent prié, le lieu où ils étaient assemblés trembla, et ils furent tous remplis de l’Esprit-Saint, et ils annonçaient la parole de Dieu avec confiance.
32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any [of them] that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
Or la multitude des croyants n’avait qu’un cœur et qu’une âme; et nul ne regardait comme étant à lui rien de ce qu’il possédait; mais toutes choses leur étaient communes.
33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
Et les apôtres rendaient témoignage avec une grande force de la résurrection du Seigneur Jésus-Christ, et une grande grâce était en eux tous.
34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
Aussi il n’y avait aucun pauvre parmi eux; car tout ce qu’il y avait de possesseurs de champs ou de maisons, les vendaient, et apportaient le prix de ce qu’ils avaient vendu,
35 And laid [them] down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
Et le déposaient aux pieds des apôtres; on le distribuait ensuite à chacun selon qu’il en avait besoin.
36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation, ) a Levite, [and] of the country of Cyprus,
Joseph donc, surnommé par les apôtres Barnabé (qu’on interprète par fils de consolation), lévite et Cypriote de naissance,
37 Having land, sold [it], and brought the money, and laid [it] at the apostles’ feet.
Comme il avait un champ, le vendit, et en apporta le prix, et le déposa aux pieds des apôtres.
