Acts 27
1 And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto [one] named Julius, a centurion of Augustus’ band.
第九項 パウロロマへ出立して難船に遇ふ 斯てパウロイタリアへ航海し、且他の囚人等と共に、オグスト隊のユリオと云へる百夫長に付さるべしと決せられしかば、
2 And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia; [one] Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.
我等は[小]アジアの處々に廻航すべきアドラミットの船に乗りて出帆せしが、テサロニケのマケドニア人アリスタルコも、亦我等と共に在りき。
3 And the next [day] we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave [him] liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.
翌日シドンに至りしに[百夫長]ユリオは懇切にパウロを遇ひ、友人の家に至りて歓待を受くる事を許せり。
4 And when we had launched from thence, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.
然て此處を出帆して、逆風の為にクプロ[島]の風下を通り、
5 And when we had sailed over the sea of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, [a city] of Lycia.
シリシアとパンフィリアとの灘を航して、リシア[州]のミラ[港]に至り、
6 And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing into Italy; and he put us therein.
此處にてイタリアへ出帆するアレキサンドリアの船を見付けしかば、百夫長我等を之に乗替へさせたり。
7 And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone;
數日の間、船の進行遅く、辛うじてグニド[半島]の沖合に至りしも、尚逆風の為にサルモネ[岬]に近づき、クレタ[島]の風下を通りて、
8 And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city [of] Lasea.
漸く陸に沿ひて、タラサの町に程近き、良港と云へる處に至れり。
9 Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished [them],
時を経る事既に久しく、断食節も過ぎし頃とて、航海安全ならざれば、パウロ彼等を警戒して、
10 And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.
云ひけるは、男子等よ、我は航海の漸く困難と成り、啻に積荷と船と耳ならず、我等の身にも損害多かるべきことを認む、と。
11 Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.
然れど百夫長は、パウロの云ふ所よりも船長と船主とを信用し、
12 And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, [and there] to winter; [which is] an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.
此港は冬を過すに不便なればとて、多數の決議によりて此處を發し、成るべくクレタ[島]の一港にして、西南と北西との風下に向へるフェニスに至りて、冬を過ごさん事となれり。
13 And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained [their] purpose, loosing [thence], they sailed close by Crete.
折しも南風静に吹きければ、彼等は其目的に叶へりと思ひて碇を上げ、近くクレタ[島]に沿ひて航行しけるに、
14 But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.
幾程もなくユロアクィロと名くる大風吹荒みしかば、
15 And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let [her] drive.
船は吹流されて風上に進み得べくもあらず、風に任せて漂ひつつ、
16 And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:
コウダと云へる[小]島の下に至り、辛うじて小艇を止むるを得たり。
17 Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.
然て之を引上げしに船員は、シルト[湾]へ吹遣られん事を懼れて、備縄を以て船體を巻縛り、帆を下して其儘に流れけるに、
18 And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next [day] they lightened the ship;
烈しき風浪に漂はされて、翌日は積荷を擲ね、
19 And the third [day] we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.
三日目には手づから船具をも投げたり。
20 And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on [us], all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.
斯て數日の間日も星も見えず、甚しき風浪に罹りて、我等の助かるべき見込は全く絶果てたり。
21 But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.
人々飲食せざる事既に久しければ、パウロ彼等の中に立ちて云ひけるは、男子等よ、前に我が言ふ事を聴きて、クレタ[島]を出帆せざりしならば、斯る損害と危険とを免れたりしものを。
22 And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of [any man’s] life among you, but of the ship.
然て我、今は安心せん事を汝等に勧む、其は汝等の中一人も生命を失はずして、船のみ棄るべければなり。
23 For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,
蓋我が属する所、事へ奉る所の神の使、昨夜我傍に立ちて、
24 Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Cæsar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.
云ひけるは、パウロよ恐るること勿れ、汝はセザルの前に出廷せざるべからず、且神は汝と同船せるものを悉く汝に賜ひたるなり、と。
25 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.
然れば男子等、心を安んぜよ、其は我に謂はれし如く、然あるべし、と神に由りて信ずればなり。
26 Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.
我等は必ず或島に至るべし、と。
27 But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;
斯て第十四夜に至りて、我等アドリア海を航しつつありしに、夜半頃に水夫等何處やらん土地の見ゆる様に覚えしかば、
28 And sounded, and found [it] twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found [it] fifteen fathoms.
測鉛を投じたるに、廿尋なる事を認め、少しく進みて十五尋なる事を認めたり。
29 Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.
瀬に觸らん事の恐しければ、艫よりの碇を下して夜の明くるを待ちたりしが、
30 And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship,
水夫は船より迯れま欲しさに、船の舳より碇を下さんとするを口實にて既に小艇を海に浮べたれば、
31 Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.
パウロ百夫長と兵卒等とに向ひ、此人々船に止らずば、汝等助る事能はじ、と云ひしに、
32 Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off.
兵卒等小艇の縄を断切りて流るるに任せたり。
33 And while the day was coming on, Paul besought [them] all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.
夜明けんとする時、パウロ一同に食せん事を勧めて云ひけるは、汝等何をも飲食せずして空腹に待てる事既に十四日なり、
34 Wherefore I pray you to take [some] meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.
故に我、汝等の健康の為に食せん事を勧む、蓋汝等の一人の髪毛一筋だに失せざるべし、と。
35 And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken [it], he began to eat.
斯く言終りて麪を取り、一同の前にて神に感謝し、擘きて食し始めしかば、
36 Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took [some] meat.
皆一層心落付きて、人々も食事したり。
37 And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.
我等船に居る者総て二百七十六人なりしが、
38 And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, and cast out the wheat into the sea.
人々飽足りて後、麦を海に擲ねて船を軽くせり。
39 And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.
夜明けて後、其土地をば見知らねども、或砂浜の入江を見付けて、叶ふべくは其處に船を寄せんと思ひ、
40 And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed [themselves] unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.
縄を切りて碇を海に棄て、舵綱をも弛めて舳の帆を揚げ、風に順ひつつ陸を指して進みけるが、
41 And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.
兩方海に挟まりたる處に至りて船を乗上げ、舳は填りて動かざれど、艫は浪の力の為に外れ居たりき。
42 And the soldiers’ counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape.
此時兵卒等、囚徒の泳ぎて逃げん事を虞れて、之を殺さんと志したれど、
43 But the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from [their] purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast [themselves] first [into the sea], and get to land:
百夫長パウロを救はんと欲して之を禁じ、命じて、泳ぎ得る人々をして先跳入りて陸に迯れしめ、
44 And the rest, some on boards, and some on [broken pieces] of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.
然て殘れる人々を或は板、或は船具に乗せたれば、皆恙なく上陸する事を得たり。
