Acts 19
1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
Mientras Apolos estaba en Corinto, Pablo recorrió las costas del norte y llegó a Éfeso. Halló a unos discípulos
2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
y les preguntó: ¿Después que creyeron, recibieron el Espíritu Santo? Y contestaron: ¡Ni siquiera oímos que hay Espíritu Santo!
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
Y les volvió a preguntar: ¿En qué [nombre] fueron bautizados? Y ellos respondieron: En el bautismo de Juan.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
Entonces Pablo dijo: Juan bautizó con un bautismo de cambio de mente, y anunció al pueblo que creyeran en el que vendría, es decir, en Jesús.
5 When they heard [this], they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Cuando oyeron esto, fueron bautizados en el Nombre del Señor Jesús.
6 And when Paul had laid [his] hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
Cuando Pablo les impuso [las] manos, el Espíritu Santo vino sobre ellos. Hablaban en lenguas y profetizaban.
7 And all the men were about twelve.
En total eran unos 12 hombres.
8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.
Entró en la congregación de los judíos y hablaba osadamente durante tres meses. Discutía y persuadía con respecto al reino de Dios.
9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.
Pero como algunos se endurecieron y no creyeron, maldijeron el Camino delante de la multitud. Pablo se apartó de ellos y se llevó a los discípulos. Discutía cada día en la escuela de Tirano
10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
durante dos años, de manera que todos los que vivían en Asia, judíos y griegos, oyeron la Palabra del Señor.
11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:
Dios hacía milagros extraordinarios por medio de Pablo.
12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
Incluso les llevaban a los enfermos pañuelos o delantales de su cuerpo, y eran sanados de sus dolencias y salían los espíritus malos.
13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
Entonces algunos judíos exorcistas ambulantes también intentaron invocar el Nombre del Señor Jesús sobre los que tenían espíritus malignos, y decían: ¡Los conjuro por Jesús, el que predica Pablo!
14 And there were seven sons of [one] Sceva, a Jew, [and] chief of the priests, which did so.
Esto lo hacían siete hijos de un tal Esceva, sumo sacerdote judío.
15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
Pero el espíritu maligno les respondió: Conozco a Jesús y entiendo a Pablo, pero ustedes, ¿quiénes son?
16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
El hombre en quien estaba el espíritu maligno se abalanzó sobre ellos y dominó a dos. Prevaleció contra ellos de tal modo que huyeron de aquella casa desnudos y heridos.
17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
Todos los habitantes de Éfeso, judíos y griegos, supieron esto. El temor se apoderó de todos ellos, y el Nombre del Señor Jesús era engrandecido.
18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.
Muchos creyentes llegaban, confesaban y declaraban sus malas prácticas.
19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all [men]: and they counted the price of them, and found [it] fifty thousand [pieces] of silver.
Entonces muchos de los que practicaban las magias, recogieron los rollos y [los] quemaron públicamente. Calcularon su costo: 50.000 piezas de plata.
20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.
Así crecía poderosamente y prevalecía la Palabra del Señor.
21 After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.
Después que ocurrió esto, Pablo pasó por Macedonia y Acaya. Luego decidió en su espíritu ir a Jerusalén. Y dijo: Después que vaya allí, también necesito ir a Roma.
22 So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.
Luego envió a sus ayudantes Timoteo y Erasto a Macedonia y él permaneció un tiempo en Asia.
23 And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.
En aquel tiempo hubo un gran alboroto con respecto al Camino.
24 For a certain [man] named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;
Demetrio, un platero que hacía templos de plata de Artemisa, conseguía mucha ganancia para los diseñadores.
25 Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.
Los reunió juntamente con sus artesanos. Les dijo: Varones, sabemos que nuestra prosperidad se basa en este negocio.
26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:
Pero ustedes ven y oyen que este Pablo persuadió a una considerable multitud en Éfeso y en casi toda Asia, y la desvió cuando dijo que no son dioses los que se hacen con las manos.
27 So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.
Con esto se corren riesgos: nuestro negocio sería desacreditado. También el templo de la gran diosa Artemisa sería estimado como nada, y aquella diosa, a quien toda Asia y la humanidad adoran, sería despojada de su grandeza.
28 And when they heard [these sayings], they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great [is] Diana of the Ephesians.
Cuando escucharon [esto], gritaban llenos de furia: ¡Grande es Artemisa de [los] efesios!
29 And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.
La ciudad se alborotó. Irrumpieron unánimes en el teatro y arrebataron a Gayo y Aristarco, macedonios compañeros de viaje de Pablo.
30 And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.
Cuando Pablo quiso entrar en la asamblea popular, los discípulos no le permitieron.
31 And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring [him] that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.
También algunos amigos suyos, hombres ricos e influyentes de Asia, le enviaron [aviso] y le rogaban que no se presentara al teatro.
32 Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused; and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.
Unos gritaban una cosa, y otros otra, porque la concurrencia estaba aturdida. La mayoría no sabía por qué se habían reunido.
33 And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people.
De entre la multitud instruyeron a Alejandro, y los judíos lo empujaron. Entonces Alejandro hizo señal de silencio con la mano y quería defenderse ante el pueblo.
34 But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great [is] Diana of the Ephesians.
Pero al saber que era judío, surgió una sola voz de todos. Gritaron como por dos horas: ¡Grande es Artemisa de los efesios!
35 And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, [Ye] men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the [image] which fell down from Jupiter?
Entonces el escribano calmó a la multitud y dijo: Varones efesios, ¿hay alguno de los hombres que no sabe que la ciudad de los efesios es guardiana de la gran Artemisa que cayó del cielo?
36 Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.
Por cuanto esto es indiscutible, es necesario estar calmados y no actuar con precipitación.
37 For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.
Trajeron a estos hombres que no roban templos ni blasfeman a nuestra deidad.
38 Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.
Si Demetrio y los diseñadores que lo acompañan tienen acusación contra alguien, los tribunales están abiertos y hay procónsules. Presenten cargos unos contra otros.
39 But if ye enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.
Si desean saber algo más, en legítima asamblea será decidido.
40 For we are in danger to be called in question for this day’s uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.
Porque por lo de hoy, aun corremos el peligro de ser acusados de rebelión, ya que no existe causa con la cual podremos dar razón del alboroto.
41 And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.
Después de decir esto, disolvió la reunión.
