1 Timothy 5
1 Rebuke not an elder, but intreat [him] as a father; [and] the younger men as brethren;
Não repreendas ao idoso asperamente, mas exorta-o como a um pai; aos jovens, como a irmãos;
2 The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.
às idosas, como a mães; e às moças, como a irmãs, em toda pureza.
3 Honour widows that are widows indeed.
Honra as viúvas que são verdadeiramente viúvas.
4 But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.
Mas, se alguma viúva tiver filhos ou netos, aprendam primeiro a exercer piedade com a sua própria família, e a recompensar os seus pais; porque isso é agradável diante de Deus.
5 Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.
A que é verdadeiramente viúva e desamparada espera em Deus, e persevera noite e dia em rogos e orações.
6 But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.
Mas a que se entrega aos prazeres, enquanto vive, está morta.
7 And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.
Manda, pois, essas coisas, para que sejam irrepreensíveis.
8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
Porém, se alguém não cuida dos seus, e principalmente dos de sua própria família, negou a fé, e é pior que um incrédulo.
9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,
A viúva, para ser registrada, não deve ter menos de sessenta anos, e haver sido mulher de um marido.
10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
Ela deve ter testemunho de boas obras: se criou filhos, se foi hospitaleira, se lavou os pés dos santos, se socorreu os aflitos, se seguiu toda boa obra.
11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;
Mas não admitas as viúvas jovens; porque, quando têm desejos sensuais contra Cristo, querem se casar;
12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
e têm condenação, por haverem anulado a primeira fé.
13 And withal they learn [to be] idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
E, além disso, também aprendem a andar ociosas de casa em casa; e não somente ociosas, mas também fofoqueiras e curiosas, falando o que não se deve.
14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
Por isso, quero que as mais jovens se casem, gerem filhos, administrem a casa, [e] não deem nenhuma oportunidade ao adversário de maldizer.
15 For some are already turned aside after Satan.
Pois algumas já se desviaram e seguiram Satanás.
16 If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.
Se alguma crente tem viúvas, que as ajude, e não sobrecarregue a igreja, para que ela possa ajudar as que são de verdade viúvas.
17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
Os presbíteros [ou: anciãos] que lideram bem sejam estimados como dignos de honra dobrada, principalmente os que trabalham na palavra e na doutrina.
18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer [is] worthy of his reward.
Pois a Escritura diz: “Ao boi que debulha não atarás a boca”; e: “o trabalhador é digno do seu salário”.
19 Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.
Não aceites acusação contra um presbítero, a não ser com duas ou três testemunhas.
20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
Aos que pecarem, repreende-os na presença de todos, para que os outros também tenham temor.
21 I charge [thee] before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.
Ordeno-te, diante de Deus, de Cristo Jesus, e dos anjos escolhidos, que guardes essas coisas sem preconceitos, fazendo nada por favoritismo.
22 Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.
A ninguém imponhas as mãos apressadamente, nem participes dos pecados alheios; conserva-te puro.
23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.
Não bebas mais [somente] água, mas usa [também] de um pouco de vinho, por causa do teu estômago, e das tuas frequentes enfermidades.
24 Some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some [men] they follow after.
Os pecados de algumas pessoas são evidentes antes mesmo do juízo, mas os de algumas são manifestos depois.
25 Likewise also the good works [of some] are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise can not be hid.
Semelhantemente, também, as boas obras são evidentes; e as que não são assim não se podem esconder.
