1 Peter 1
1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
イエス・キリストの使徒ペトロから，ポントス，ガラテア，カッパドキア，アジア，ビティニアの離散のうちに仮住まいしている選ばれた人たち，
2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
すなわち，イエス・キリストに従い，その血を振りかけていただくために，父なる神の予知によって，霊の聖化のうちに選ばれた人たちへ。あなた方に恵みと平和が増し加えられますように。
3 Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの父また神がほめたたえられますように。その方は，その豊かなあわれみにより，イエス・キリストの死んだ者たちからの復活を通して，わたしたちを生きた希望へと再び生まれさせる父となってくださいました。
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
それは，あなた方のために天に取って置かれている，朽ちることなく，汚れがなく，消え行くことのない相続財産のためです。
5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
あなた方は，終わりの時に啓示されるために備えられている救いのため，神の力により，信仰を通して守られています。
6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
その点で，あなた方は大いに喜んでいます。たとえ今しばらくの間は，さまざまな試練にあって悲しまなければならないとしてもです。
7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
それは，火によって試されていながらも滅びてしまう金よりはるかに貴重な，あなた方の信仰の証拠が，イエス・キリストの現われのときに，賞賛と栄光と栄誉という結果になるためなのです。
8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see [him] not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
あなた方は彼を見たことがありませんが，愛しています。今は彼を見ることができませんが，それでも信じており，言葉に表せない，栄光に満ちた喜びをもって大いに喜んでいます。
9 Receiving the end of your faith, [even] the salvation of [your] souls.
あなた方の信仰の結果を，すなわちあなた方の魂の救いを受けているからです。
10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace [that should come] unto you:
この救いについては，あなた方に達する恵みについて預言した預言者たちが探し求め，念入りに調べました。
11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
彼らは，自分たちのうちにあるキリストの霊が，キリストの苦難とそれに続く栄光を預言した時，それがだれを，あるいはどの時を指しているのかを調べていたのです。
12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
彼らは，天から遣わされた聖霊によってあなた方に福音を宣教した人たちを通してあなた方に知らされたそれらの事柄のために奉仕しましたが，それが，自分たちのためではなく，あなた方のためであることを啓示されました。それは，み使いたちもひとめ見たいと望んでいる事柄です。
13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
ですから，あなた方の思いを活動に備え，冷静さを保ち，イエス・キリストの現われの時にあなた方にもたらされる恵みにすべての希望を置きなさい。
14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
従順の子らとして，以前の無知であったときの欲望に従うのではなく，
15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
あなた方を召された方の聖なるさまに従って，あなた方も自分のすべての振る舞いにおいて聖なるものとなりなさい。
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
それは，「あなた方は聖なるものでなければならない。わたしは聖なるものだからだ」と書かれているからです。
17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning [here] in fear:
あなた方が，人を偏り見ずにひとりひとりの業に基づいて裁かれる方を父と呼んでいるのであれば，この世に仮住まいする期間を敬けんな恐れのうちに過ごしなさい。
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, [as] silver and gold, from your vain conversation [received] by tradition from your fathers;
このことを知っているからです。つまり，あなた方が，父祖たちから伝えられた無益な生き方から買い戻されたのは，朽ちやすい物，すなわち銀や金によるのではなく，
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
汚れもしみもない子羊のような貴重な血，すなわちキリストの血によるということです。
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
実際，彼は世の基礎が置かれる前から予知されていましたが，時代の終わりに，あなた方のために現わされました。
21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
そのあなた方は，彼を通して，彼を死んだ者たちの中から起こし，栄光をお与えになった神を信じています。あなた方の信仰と希望が神のうちにあるようになるためです。
22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, [see that ye] love one another with a pure heart fervently:
あなた方は，偽りのない兄弟の愛情における霊を通して，真理に対する従順のうちに自分の魂を清くしているのですから，互いを心から熱烈に愛しなさい。
23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. (aiōn g165)
再び生まれたのは，朽ちやすい種からではなく，朽ちることのない種から，すなわち，生きていていつまでも残る神の言葉を通してであったからです。 (aiōn g165)
24 For all flesh [is] as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
こうあるからです。 「肉なる者はすべて草のよう。人の栄光はすべて草の花のよう。草は枯れ，花は落ちる。
