< 1 Peter 5 >

1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
Elders who [are] among you, I exhort [you], [as] a fellow-elder, and a witness of the sufferings of the Christ, and a partaker of the glory about to be revealed,
2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight [thereof], not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
feed the flock of God that [is] among you, overseeing not by compulsion, but willingly, neither for shameful gain, but eagerly,
3 Neither as being lords over [God’s] heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
neither as exercising lordship over the heritages, but becoming patterns for the flock,
4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
and the Chief Shepherd having appeared, you will receive the unfading garland of glory.
5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all [of you] be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
In like manner, you young [ones], be subject to elders, and all subjecting yourselves to one another; clothe yourselves with humble-mindedness, because God resists the proud, but He gives grace to the humble;
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
be humbled, then, under the powerful hand of God, that He may exalt you in good time,
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
having cast all your care on Him, because He cares for you.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Be sober, vigilant, because your opponent the Devil walks around as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may swallow up,
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
whom you must resist, steadfast in the faith, having known the same sufferings of your brotherhood to be accomplished in the world.
10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle [you]. (aiōnios g166)
And the God of all grace, who called you to His perpetual glory in Christ Jesus, having suffered a little, Himself make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle [you]; (aiōnios g166)
11 To him [be] glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
to Him [is] the glory and the power through the ages and the ages! Amen. (aiōn g165)
12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.
Through Silvanus, the faithful brother as I reckon, I wrote through few [words] to you, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God in which you have stood.
13 The [church that is] at Babylon, elected together with [you], saluteth you; and [so doth] Marcus my son.
She in Babylon chosen with you greets you, and my son Marcus.
14 Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace [be] with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
Greet one another in a kiss of love. Peace to you all who [are] in Christ Jesus! Amen.
