1 Peter 4
1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
Uma vez que Cristo sofreu fisicamente, vocês devem se preparar para ter a mesma atitude que ele teve, pois aqueles que sofrem fisicamente se afastam do pecado.
2 That he no longer should live the rest of [his] time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
Vocês não viverão o resto de suas vidas seguindo desejos humanos, mas fazendo a vontade de Deus.
3 For the time past of [our] life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
Antigamente, vocês passaram tempo suficiente seguindo os caminhos do mundo: a imoralidade, os desejos carnais, bebedeira, orgias, farras, embriaguez e idolatria repugnante.
4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with [them] to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of [you]:
As pessoas estranham vocês não mais se juntarem a elas nesse estilo de vida selvagem e excessivo e, então, elas os insultam. Mas, elas precisarão explicar o que estão fazendo para aquele que está preparado para julgar os vivos e os mortos.
5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
É por isso que o evangelho foi anunciado também àqueles que já morreram,
6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
para que, mesmo julgados como seres humanos pecadores, eles possam viver no espírito, segundo Deus.
7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
Ora, o fim de todas as coisas está perto. Então, sejam prudentes e fiquem alerta quando fizerem as suas orações.
8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
E, principalmente, vocês devem amar uns aos outros de maneira muito sincera, pois o amor perdoa muitos atos errados que as pessoas praticam.
9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
Sejam acolhedores uns com os outros e não reclamem.
10 As every man hath received the gift, [even so] minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
Sirvam uns aos outros, cada um de acordo com o dom que recebeu, como bons administradores dos diferentes dons que receberam de Deus.
11 If any man speak, [let him speak] as the oracles of God; if any man minister, [let him do it] as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
Quem anuncia a mensagem deve fazer isso de acordo com a palavra de Deus. Quem quer ajudar os outros deve fazê-lo por meio da força que Deus dá, para que em tudo Deus possa ser louvado, por meio de Jesus Cristo, a quem pertencem a glória e o poder para todo o sempre! Amém! (aiōn g165)
12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
Queridos amigos, não fiquem assustados com as duras “provas de fogo” que vocês estão passando, como se tudo isso fosse algo inesperado.
13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
Ao contrário, fiquem felizes por estarem tomando parte nos sofrimentos de Cristo, pois quando ele aparecer em toda a sua glória, vocês ficarão extremamente felizes!
14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy [are ye]; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
Se vocês forem insultados, por serem seguidores de Cristo, serão abençoados, pois o Espírito glorioso de Deus repousa sobre vocês.
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or [as] a thief, or [as] an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
Se vocês sofrerem, que não seja por serem assassinos, ladrões, criminosos ou por se intrometerem na vida dos outros.
16 Yet if [any man suffer] as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
Mas, se sofrerem por serem cristãos, então, vocês não precisam se envergonhar. Em vez disso, agradeçam a Deus por serem chamados por esse nome!
17 For the time [is come] that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if [it] first [begin] at us, what shall the end [be] of them that obey not the gospel of God?
Pois o dia do julgamento está chegando e começará pela casa de Deus. Se o julgamento vai começar conosco, qual será o fim daqueles que rejeitam o evangelho de Deus?
18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
“Se é difícil para aqueles que vivem corretamente serem salvos, o que acontecerá com os pecadores que são contra Deus?”
19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls [to him] in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
Então, aqueles que sofrem, segundo a vontade de Deus, devem entregar sua vida ao fiel Criador e continuarem praticando o bem.
