1 Peter 4
1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
অতএব, খ্রীষ্ট তাঁর শরীরে কষ্টভোগ করেছেন বলে, তোমরাও সেই একই উপায়ে নিজেদের সুসজ্জিত করে তোলো, কারণ যে শরীরে কষ্টভোগ করেছে, সে পাপের সঙ্গে সম্পর্ক শেষ করেছে।
2 That he no longer should live the rest of [his] time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
এর ফলে, সে মন্দ দৈহিক কামনাবাসনায় তার পার্থিব জীবনযাপন করে না, বরং ঈশ্বরের ইচ্ছা অনুসারেই করে।
3 For the time past of [our] life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
অইহুদিরা যেমন করে—লম্পটতা, ভোগলালসা, মদ্যপান, রঙ্গরস ও ঘৃণ্য প্রতিমাপূজা—এসব করে অতীতে তোমরা যথেষ্ট সময় কাটিয়ে দিয়েছ।
4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with [them] to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of [you]:
তোমরা তাদের মতো একই উচ্ছৃঙ্খলতার জীবন অনুসরণ করছ না বলে এখন তারা বিস্ময় বোধ করে ও তোমাদের উপরে অবমাননার বোঝা চাপিয়ে দেয়।
5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
কিন্তু যিনি জীবিত ও মৃতদের বিচার করতে প্রস্তুত, তাঁর কাছে তাদের কৈফিয়ত দিতে হবে।
6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
এই কারণেই এখন যারা মৃত, তাদের কাছেও সুসমাচার প্রচার করা হয়েছিল, যেন শারীরিকভাবে মানুষের মতো তাদের বিচার করা গেলেও, ঈশ্বরের ইচ্ছা অনুযায়ী তারা আত্মায় জীবিত থাকে।
7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
সবকিছুরই অন্তিমকাল সন্নিকট। অতএব তোমরা শুদ্ধমন ও আত্মসংযমী হও, যেন প্রার্থনা করতে পারো।
8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
সর্বোপরি, পরস্পরকে গভীরভাবে ভালোবাসো, কারণ “ভালোবাসা পাপকে আবৃত করে।”
9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
বিরক্তি বোধ না করে তোমরা একে অপরের আতিথ্য করো।
10 As every man hath received the gift, [even so] minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
প্রত্যেকেই অন্যদের সেবা করার উদ্দেশে যে বরদান লাভ করেছে, ঈশ্বরের সেই অনুগ্রহ তারা বিশ্বস্ত কর্মাধ্যক্ষের মতো ব্যবহার করুক।
11 If any man speak, [let him speak] as the oracles of God; if any man minister, [let him do it] as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
কেউ যদি কথা বলে, সে এমনভাবে বলুক, যেন ঈশ্বরের বাণীই বলছে। কেউ যদি সেবা করে, সে ঈশ্বরের দেওয়া শক্তির গুণেই তা করুক, যেন সব বিষয়ে যীশু খ্রীষ্টের মাধ্যমে ঈশ্বর প্রশংসিত হন। মহিমা ও পরাক্রম যুগে যুগে চিরকাল তাঁরই হোক। আমেন। (aiōn g165)
12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
প্রিয় বন্ধুরা, যে যন্ত্রণাপূর্ণ পরীক্ষা তোমরা ভোগ করছ, তা কোনো অস্বাভাবিক ঘটনা তোমাদের প্রতি ঘটছে মনে করে বিস্মিত হোয়ো না।
13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
কিন্তু খ্রীষ্টের কষ্টভোগে তোমরাও অংশগ্রহণ করছ মনে করে আনন্দ করো, যেন যেদিন তাঁর মহিমা প্রকাশিত হবে, সেদিন তোমরাও অতিশয় আনন্দিত হতে পারো।
14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy [are ye]; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
খ্রীষ্টের নামের জন্য যদি তোমরা অপমানিত হও, তাহলে তোমরা ধন্য, কারণ ঈশ্বরের মহিমাময় আত্মা তোমাদের উপরে অধিষ্ঠান করছেন।
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or [as] a thief, or [as] an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
তোমরা যদি কষ্টভোগ করো, তাহলে হত্যাকারী বা চোর অথবা অন্য কোনো প্রকার অপরাধী হয়ে, এমনকি, অনধিকার-চর্চাকারীরূপে করো না,
16 Yet if [any man suffer] as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
কিন্তু যদি খ্রীষ্টিয়ান বলে কষ্টভোগ করো, তাহলে লজ্জিত হোয়ো না, বরং সেই নামের জন্য ঈশ্বরের প্রশংসা করো।
17 For the time [is come] that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if [it] first [begin] at us, what shall the end [be] of them that obey not the gospel of God?
কারণ ঈশ্বরের গৃহেই বিচারের সময় আরম্ভ হল, আর তা যদি আমাদের দিয়ে শুরু হয়, তাহলে যারা ঈশ্বরের সুসমাচারের অবাধ্য, তাদের পরিণতি কী হবে?
18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
আবার, “পরিত্রাণ লাভ যদি ধার্মিকদেরই কষ্টসাধ্য হয়, তাহলে ভক্তিহীন ও পাপীদের কী হবে?”
19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls [to him] in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
তাহলে, সেই কারণে যারা ঈশ্বরের ইচ্ছা অনুযায়ী কষ্টভোগ করে, তারা তাদের বিশ্বস্ত সৃষ্টিকর্তার কাছে নিজেদের সমর্পণ করুক ও সৎকর্ম করে যাক।
