1 Kings 20
1 And Ben-hadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and [there were] thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots: and he went up and besieged Samaria, and warred against it.
౧సిరియా రాజు బెన్హదదు తన సైన్యాన్నంతా సిద్ధం చేశాడు. అతనితో ఉన్న ముప్ఫై ఇద్దరు రాజులతో గుర్రాలతో రథాలతో బయలుదేరి సమరయను ముట్టడించి దాని మీద యుద్ధం చేశాడు.
2 And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said unto him, Thus saith Ben-hadad,
౨అతడు పట్టణంలో ఉన్న ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజు అహాబు దగ్గరికి వార్తాహరులను పంపి,
3 Thy silver and thy gold [is] mine; thy wives also and thy children, [even] the goodliest, [are] mine.
౩“నీ వెండి, నీ బంగారం నావే. నీ భార్యల్లో నీ పిల్లల్లో అందమైన వాళ్ళు ఇప్పుడు నా వాళ్ళే అని బెన్హదదు తెలియచేస్తున్నాడు” అని వారికి సందేశం పంపించాడు.
4 And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I [am] thine, and all that I have.
౪అందుకు ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజు “నా ప్రభూ, నా రాజా, నీవు చెప్పినట్టే నేనూ నాకున్నదంతా నీ ఆధీనంలో ఉన్నాం” అని చెప్పి వారిని పంపించాడు.
5 And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaketh Ben-hadad, saying, Although I have sent unto thee, saying, Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;
౫ఆ వార్తాహరులు వెళ్లి ఆ మాట తెలియచేసి తిరిగి వచ్చి, బెన్హదదు ఇలా అంటున్నాడని చెప్పారు. “నీవు నీ వెండినీ నీ బంగారాన్నీ నీ భార్యలనూ నీ పిల్లలనూ నాకు అప్పగించాలని నేను నా సేవకులను నీ దగ్గరికి పంపాను.
6 Yet I will send my servants unto thee to morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, [that] whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put [it] in their hand, and take [it] away.
౬రేపు ఈ పాటికి వారు నీ ఇంటినీ నీ సేవకుల ఇళ్లనూ వెతికి వారి కళ్ళకు ఏది ఇష్టమో దాన్ని తీసుకుపోతారు.”
7 Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this [man] seeketh mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.
౭అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజు జాతి పెద్దలందర్నీ పిలిపించి “బెన్హదదు, నీ భార్యలనూ పిల్లలనూ వెండి బంగారాలనూ తీసుకుపోతానని కబురు పంపితే, నేను ఇవ్వనని చెప్పలేదు. అతడు చేయబోయే మోసం ఎలాంటిదో మీరు తెలుసుకోవాలి” అన్నాడు.
8 And all the elders and all the people said unto him, Hearken not [unto him], nor consent.
౮“నీవతని మాట వినొద్దు, దానికి ఒప్పుకోవద్దు” అని ఆ పెద్దలూ ప్రజలంతా అతనితో చెప్పారు.
9 Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Ben-hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didst send for to thy servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.
౯కాబట్టి అహాబు అ వార్తాహరులతో “మీరు రాజైన నా యజమానితో ఇలాచెప్పండి. ‘నీవు మొదట నీ సేవకుడినైన నాకు ఇచ్చి పంపిన ఆజ్ఞను నేను తప్పక పాటిస్తాను గాని, ఇప్పుడు చెప్పిన దాన్ని మాత్రం చేయలేను’” అన్నాడు. ఆ వార్తాహరులు బెన్హదదు దగ్గరికి వెళ్లి ఆ జవాబు తెలియచేశారు.
10 And Ben-hadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.
౧౦బెన్హదదు మళ్ళీ అతని దగ్గరికి వార్తాహరులను పంపి “నాతో కూడా వచ్చిన వారంతా చేతినిండా తీసుకుపోడానికి సమరయ బూడిద చాలదు. అలా జరక్కపోతే దేవుళ్ళు నాకు గొప్ప కీడు చేస్తారు గాక” అని చెప్పి పంపాడు.
11 And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell [him], Let not him that girdeth on [his harness] boast himself as he that putteth it off.
౧౧అందుకు ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజు “తన యుద్ధ కవచాన్ని ధరించకుండానే దాన్ని విప్పి, తీసేసిన వాడిలాగా అతిశయపడకూడదని బెన్హదదుతో చెప్పండి” అన్నాడు.
12 And it came to pass, when [Ben-hadad] heard this message, as he [was] drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Set [yourselves in array]. And they set [themselves in array] against the city.
౧౨తమ గుడారాల్లో బెన్హదదు, అతని తోటి రాజులు తాగుతూ ఉన్నప్పుడు ఈ కబురు విన్నారు. కాబట్టి అతడు తన సేవకులను పిలిపించి “యుద్ధానికి సిద్ధంగా ఉండండి” అని ఆజ్ఞాపించాడు. వాళ్ళు పట్టణం మీద యుద్ధం చేయడానికి సిద్ధపడ్డారు.
13 And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day; and thou shalt know that I [am] the LORD.
౧౩అప్పుడు ఒక ప్రవక్త ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజైన అహాబు దగ్గరికి వచ్చి “యెహోవా చెప్పేదేమిటంటే, ఈ గొప్ప సైన్యాన్ని చూశావా? ఈ రోజే దాన్ని నీ చేతిలో పెడతాను. అప్పుడు నేను యెహోవానని నీవు తెలుసుకుంటావు” అన్నాడు.
14 And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus saith the LORD, [Even] by the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall order the battle? And he answered, Thou.
౧౪“ఇది ఎవరివల్ల అవుతుంది?” అని అహాబు అడిగాడు. అందుకు ప్రవక్త “రాజ్యాధిపతుల్లో ఉన్న యువకుల వలన అవుతుందని యెహోవా చెబుతున్నాడు” అన్నాడు. “యుద్ధాన్ని ఎవరు మొదలెట్టాలి?” అని రాజు అడిగాడు. అతడు “నువ్వే” అని జవాబిచ్చాడు.
15 Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two: and after them he numbered all the people, [even] all the children of Israel, [being] seven thousand.
౧౫అప్పుడు అహాబు రాజ్యాధిపతుల్లో ఉన్న యువకుల లెక్క చూశాడు. వారు 232 మంది ఉన్నారు. తరువాత సైనికులను, అంటే ఇశ్రాయేలు సైన్యాన్నంతా లెక్కిస్తే ఏడు వేలమంది అయ్యారు.
16 And they went out at noon. But Ben-hadad [was] drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.
౧౬వాళ్ళు మధ్యాహ్నం బయలుదేరి వెళ్ళారు. బెన్హదదు, ఆ 32 మంది తోటిరాజులూ గుడారాల్లో తాగి మత్తుగా ఉన్నారు.
17 And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben-hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
౧౭రాజ్యాధిపతుల్లో ఉన్న యువకులు మొదటగా బయలుదేరారు. విషయం తెలుసుకుందామని బెన్హదదు కొంతమందిని పంపించాడు. సమరయ నుంచి కొంతమంది వచ్చారని అతనికి తెలిసింది.
18 And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.
౧౮బెన్హదదు “వారు శాంతంగా వచ్చినా యుద్ధం చేయడానికి వచ్చినా వారిని ప్రాణాలతో పట్టుకు రండి” అని ఆజ్ఞాపించాడు.
19 So these young men of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army which followed them.
౧౯రాజ్యాధికారుల్లో ఉన్న యువకులు, వారితో కూడ ఉన్న సైన్యం, పట్టణంలో నుంచి బయలు దేరారు.
20 And they slew every one his man: and the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: and Ben-hadad the king of Syria escaped on an horse with the horsemen.
౨౦వారిలో ప్రతివాడూ తనకెదురు వచ్చిన శత్రువుని చంపేశాడు. కాబట్టి సిరియా వారు పారిపోయారు. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు వారిని తరిమారు. సిరియా రాజు బెన్హదదు గుర్రమెక్కి కొంతమంది రౌతులతోపాటు తప్పించుకుపోయాడు.
21 And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.
౨౧అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజు బయలుదేరి గుర్రాలనూ రథాలనూ పట్టుకుని చాలామంది సిరియా వారిని చంపేశాడు.
22 And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.
౨౨అప్పుడు ఆ ప్రవక్త ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజు దగ్గరికి వచ్చి “నీవు ధైర్యం తెచ్చుకో. నీవు చేయాల్సిందేదో కనిపెట్టి చూడు. ఎందుకంటే వచ్చే సంవత్సరం సిరియారాజు నీ మీదికి మళ్ళీ వస్తాడు” అని అతనితో చెప్పాడు.
23 And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods [are] gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.
౨౩అయితే సిరియా రాజు బెన్హదదు సేవకులు అతనితో ఇలా అన్నారు. “వాళ్ళ దేవుడు కొండల దేవుడు. అందుకే వాళ్ళు మన కంటే బలంగా ఉన్నారు. అయితే మనం మైదానంలో వాళ్ళతో యుద్ధం చేస్తే తప్పకుండా గెలుస్తాం.
24 And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:
౨౪ఇంకా నువ్విలా చెయ్యి. ఈ రాజులందరినీ తీసేసి, వారికి బదులు సైన్యాధిపతులను నియమించు.
25 And number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, [and] surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkened unto their voice, and did so.
౨౫నీవు పోగొట్టుకున్న సైన్యమంత మరో సైన్యాన్నీ గుర్రానికి గుర్రాన్నీ రథానికి రథాన్నీ సిద్ధం చెయ్యి. అప్పుడు మనం మైదానంలో వారితో యుద్ధం చేసి, తప్పకుండా గెలుస్తాం.” అతడు వారి సలహా విని, వాళ్ళు చెప్పినట్టు చేశాడు.
26 And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Ben-hadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.
౨౬కొత్త సంవత్సరం మొదట్లో, బెన్హదదు సిరియనులను సిద్ధం చేసి లెక్క చూసి బయలుదేరి, ఇశ్రాయేలువారితో యుద్ధం చేయడానికి ఆఫెకు వచ్చాడు.
27 And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.
౨౭ఇశ్రాయేలు వారంతా సిద్ధపడి వాళ్ళని ఎదుర్కోడానికి బయలుదేరారు. ఇశ్రాయేలు వారు రెండు మేకల మందల్లాగా వాళ్ళ ఎదుట దిగారు. ఆ ప్రాంతమంతా సిరియా వాళ్ళతో నిండిపోయింది.
28 And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD [is] God of the hills, but he [is] not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I [am] the LORD.
౨౮అప్పుడొక దైవ సేవకుడు వచ్చి ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజుతో ఇలా అన్నాడు. “యెహోవా చెప్పేదేమిటంటే, ‘సిరియా వాళ్ళు యెహోవా కొండల దేవుడే గాని లోయల దేవుడు కాడు’ అని అనుకుంటున్నారు. అయితే నేను యెహోవానని మీరు తెలుసుకొనేలా ఈ గొప్ప సమూహమంతటినీ నీ వశం చేస్తాను.”
29 And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And [so] it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.
౨౯వాళ్ళు ఎదురెదురుగా గుడారాలు వేసుకుని ఏడు రోజులున్నారు. ఏడో రోజున యుద్ధం మొదలయింది. ఇశ్రాయేలు వారు ఒక్క రోజులోనే సిరియను సైన్యంలోని లక్షమంది కాల్బలాన్ని చంపేశారు.
30 But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and [there] a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men [that were] left. And Ben-hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.
౩౦మిగతావారు ఆఫెకు పట్టణంలోకి పారిపోతే, పట్టణ గోడ కూలి 27,000 మంది చనిపోయారు. బెన్హదదు కూడా ఆ పట్టణంలోకి పారిపోయి ఒక ఇంట్లో లోపలి గదిలో దాక్కున్నాడు.
31 And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel [are] merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save thy life.
౩౧అతని సేవకులు “ఇశ్రాయేలు వారి రాజులు దయగల వారని మేము విన్నాం. కాబట్టి నీకు అనుకూలమైతే, మేము నడుం చుట్టూ గోనెపట్టాలు కట్టుకుని తల మీద తాళ్ళు వేసుకుని ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజు దగ్గరికి పోతాం. అతడు నీ ప్రాణాన్ని కాపాడతాడేమో” అని రాజుతో అన్నారు. రాజు అందుకు ఒప్పుకున్నాడు.
32 So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and [put] ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben-hadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, [Is] he yet alive? he [is] my brother.
౩౨కాబట్టి వాళ్ళు తమ నడుములకు గోనెపట్టాలు కట్టుకుని తలమీద తాళ్ళు వేసుకుని ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజు దగ్గరికి వచ్చి “నీ దాసుడైన బెన్హదదు దయచేసి నన్ను బతకనిమ్మని మనవి చేయడానికి మమ్మల్ని పంపాడు” అని చెప్పారు. అతడు “బెన్హదదు నా సోదరుడు. అతడింకా బతికే ఉన్నాడా” అని అడిగాడు.
33 Now the men did diligently observe whether [any thing would come] from him, and did hastily catch [it: ] and they said, Thy brother Ben-hadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Ben-hadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
౩౩అప్పుడు వాళ్ళు అహాబు దగ్గర్నుంచి ఏదైనా సూచన కోసం కనిపెడుతూ ఉండి, అతడా మాట అనగానే వెంటనే “అవును, బెన్హదదు మీ సోదరుడే” అన్నారు. అప్పుడు అహాబు “మీరు వెళ్లి అతన్ని తీసుకు రండి” అన్నాడు. బెన్హదదు తన దగ్గరికి వచ్చినప్పుడు, అహాబు తన రథం మీద అతన్ని ఎక్కించుకున్నాడు.
34 And [Ben-hadad] said unto him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then [said Ahab], I will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.
౩౪బెన్హదదు అహాబుతో “మీ తండ్రి చేతిలోనుంచి మా నాన్న తీసుకున్న పట్టణాలను నేను తిరిగి ఇచ్చేస్తాను. మా నాన్న సమరయలో వ్యాపార కేంద్రాలను కట్టించుకున్నట్టు, దమస్కులో తమరు వ్యాపార కేంద్రాలు కట్టించుకోవచ్చు” అన్నాడు. అహాబు జవాబిస్తూ “అలా చేస్తే ఈ ఒప్పందంతో నిన్ను వదిలేస్తాను” అని అతనితో ఒప్పందం చేసుకుని అతన్ని వదిలేశాడు.
35 And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour in the word of the LORD, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.
౩౫ప్రవక్తల బృందంలో ఒకడు, యెహోవా ద్వారా ప్రేరణ పొంది, తన తోటి ప్రవక్తతో “దయచేసి నన్ను కొట్టు” అన్నాడు. అయితే ఆ వ్యక్తి అతన్ని కొట్టడానికి ఒప్పుకోలేదు.
36 Then said he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as thou art departed from me, a lion shall slay thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.
౩౬అప్పుడా ప్రవక్త తన తోటి ప్రవక్తతో “నీవు యెహోవా మాట వినలేదు. కాబట్టి నీవు నా దగ్గరనుంచి వెళ్లిపోగానే సింహం నిన్ను చంపేస్తుంది” అన్నాడు. అతడు వెళ్లిపోతుంటే సింహం అతనికి ఎదురుపడి అతన్ని చంపేసింది.
37 Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, so that in smiting he wounded [him].
౩౭తరువాత ఆ ప్రవక్త మరొకనితో “దయచేసి నన్ను కొట్టు” అన్నాడు. అతడు అతన్ని కొట్టి గాయపరచాడు.
38 So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes upon his face.
౩౮అప్పుడా ప్రవక్త వెళ్లి, రాజు కోసం దారిలో ఎదురు చూస్తూ ఉన్నాడు. తననెవరూ గుర్తుపట్టకుండా తన కళ్ళకు గుడ్డ కట్టుకున్నాడు.
39 And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
౩౯రాజు రావడం చూసి అతడు బిగ్గరగా ఇలా అన్నాడు. “నీ సేవకుడైన నేను యుద్ధం మధ్యలోకి వెళ్లాను. ఒక సైనికుడు నా దగ్గరికి ఒక బందీని తెచ్చి, ‘ఇతన్ని చూస్తూ ఉండు, ఎలాగైనా వాడు తప్పించుకుపోతే వాని ప్రాణానికి బదులు నీ ప్రాణం పెట్టాలి. లేకపోతే నీవు 34 కిలోల వెండి ఇవ్వాలి’ అన్నాడు.
40 And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So [shall] thy judgment [be; ] thyself hast decided [it].
౪౦అయితే నీ సేవకుడనైన నేను పనిమీద అటూ ఇటూ తిరుగుతుంటే వాడు తప్పించుకు పోయాడు.” అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజు “నీకిదే శిక్ష. దాన్ని నువ్వే నిర్ణయించుకున్నావు” అన్నాడు.
41 And he hasted, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he [was] of the prophets.
౪౧ఆ ప్రవక్త వెంటనే తన కళ్ళమీదున్న గుడ్డ తీసేశాడు. అతడు ప్రవక్తల్లో ఒకడని రాజు గుర్తించాడు.
42 And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Because thou hast let go out of [thy] hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.
౪౨ప్రవక్త రాజుతో “యెహోవా చెప్పేదేమిటంటే, నేను చంపేయమన్న వాణ్ణి నీవు వెళ్లిపోనిచ్చావు. కాబట్టి వాడి ప్రాణానికి బదులు నీ ప్రాణం ఇవ్వాలి. అతని ప్రజలకు బదులు నీ ప్రజలు నిర్మూలమవుతారు” అన్నాడు.
43 And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
౪౩ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజు విచారంతో, కోపంగా సమరయలోని తన భవనానికి వెళ్ళిపోయాడు.
