Romans 7

1 Know all of you not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law, ) how that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives?

സഹോദരങ്ങളേ, ഒരാൾ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന കാലത്തുമാത്രമാണ് ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിന് അയാളുടെമേൽ അധികാരമുള്ളത് എന്നു നിങ്ങൾക്കറിഞ്ഞുകൂടേ? ന്യായപ്രമാണം അറിയുന്നവരോടാണല്ലോ ഞാൻ സംസാരിക്കുന്നത്.

2 For the woman which has an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he lives; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

ഉദാഹരണമായി, വിവാഹിതയായ സ്ത്രീ ജീവനോടിരിക്കുന്ന ഭർത്താവിനോട് നിയമത്താൽ ബന്ധിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ഭർത്താവു മരിച്ചാൽ, അയാളോട് ബന്ധിക്കുന്ന നിയമത്തിൽനിന്ന് അവൾ വിമുക്തയായിത്തീരുന്നു.

3 So then if, while her husband lives, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

ഭർത്താവ് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കെ ഒരു സ്ത്രീ മറ്റൊരാളെ സ്വീകരിച്ചാൽ അവൾ വ്യഭിചാരിണി എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടും. എന്നാൽ ഭർത്താവു മരിച്ചാലോ ഭർത്താവിനോട് അവളെ ബന്ധിക്കുന്ന നിയമത്തിൽനിന്ന് അവൾ സ്വതന്ത്രയായിത്തീരുന്നു. പിന്നീട് മറ്റൊരു പുരുഷനെ സ്വീകരിച്ചാൽ അവൾ വ്യഭിചാരിണിയാകുകയില്ല.

4 Wherefore, my brethren, all of you also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that all of you should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

അതുപോലെതന്നെ, എന്റെ സഹോദരങ്ങളേ, ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ ശരീരത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായതിലൂടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണസംബന്ധമായി നിങ്ങളും മരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. അതാകട്ടെ, മറ്റൊരാളിന്റെ, മരിച്ചവരിൽനിന്ന് ഉയിർപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ട ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ, സ്വന്തമായി നാം തീരേണ്ടതിനും തന്മൂലം നാം ദൈവത്തിനു സത്ഫലം പുറപ്പെടുവിക്കുന്നവരായി ജീവിക്കേണ്ടതിനുമാണ്.

5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

നാം പഴയ സ്വഭാവത്തിന്റെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിലായിരുന്നപ്പോൾ ന്യായപ്രമാണം വിലക്കുന്നവ ചെയ്യാനുള്ള പാപപ്രലോഭനങ്ങൾ നമ്മുടെ അവയവങ്ങളിൽ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു. ആ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ മരണത്തിൽ അവസാനിക്കുന്നവയായിരുന്നു.

6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, (pneuma) and not in the oldness of the letter.

എന്നാൽ ഇപ്പോഴാകട്ടെ, ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിൽനിന്ന് നാം സ്വതന്ത്രരാക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. നമ്മെ അധീനപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്ന ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തെ സംബന്ധിച്ചിടത്തോളം നാം ഇപ്പോൾ മരിച്ചവരാണ്. എഴുതപ്പെട്ട ന്യായപ്രമാണം ആചരിക്കുകയെന്ന പഴയ രീതിയിലല്ല, ആത്മാവിനാൽ നിയന്ത്രിതമായ പുതിയ ജീവിതത്തിലൂടെ നാം ദൈവത്തിനു ശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്യുകയാണ് അതിന്റെ ഉദ്ദേശ്യം.

7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, You shall not covet.

എന്താണ് ഇതിന്റെ അർഥം? ന്യായപ്രമാണം പാപമെന്നോ? ഒരിക്കലുമല്ല. എങ്കിലും ന്യായപ്രമാണം ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു എങ്കിൽ പാപം എന്തെന്നു ഞാൻ അറിയുമായിരുന്നില്ല. “മോഹിക്കരുത്,” എന്നു ന്യായപ്രമാണം പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നില്ലെങ്കിൽ മോഹിക്കുന്നത് പാപമോ അല്ലയോ എന്നു ഞാൻ അറിയുകയില്ലായിരുന്നു.

8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

എന്നാൽ ഈ കൽപ്പനയിലൂടെ പാപം എന്നിൽ എല്ലാവിധ ദുർമോഹങ്ങൾക്കും അവസരം ഉണ്ടാക്കി. കാരണം ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിന്റെ അഭാവത്തിൽ പാപം നിർജീവമായിരുന്നു.

9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

ഒരുകാലത്ത് ഞാൻ ന്യായപ്രമാണം ഇല്ലാതെ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു; എന്നാൽ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിലെ കൽപ്പന വന്നപ്പോൾ പാപം എന്നിൽ സജീവമാകുകയും ഞാൻ മരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.

ഇങ്ങനെ, ജീവദായകമായിത്തീരേണ്ടിയിരുന്ന ന്യായപ്രമാണകൽപ്പനതന്നെ എന്റെ മരണത്തിനു ഹേതുവായിത്തീർന്നു എന്നു ഞാൻ കണ്ടെത്തി.

11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

കൽപ്പന മുഖാന്തരം ലഭിച്ച അവസരം മുതലെടുത്ത് പാപം എന്നെ വഞ്ചിക്കുകയും കൊല്ലുകയും ചെയ്തു.

12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

ന്യായപ്രമാണം വിശുദ്ധമാണ്; അതിലെ കൽപ്പനകൾ വിശുദ്ധവും നീതിയുക്തവും നല്ലതുംതന്നെ.

13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

അപ്പോൾ നന്മയായത് എനിക്കു മരണഹേതുവായി ഭവിച്ചെന്നാണോ? ഒരിക്കലുമില്ല. നന്മയായതിലൂടെ എനിക്ക് മരണം വരുത്തിയതു പാപമാണ്. അങ്ങനെ പാപത്തിന്റെ തനിസ്വഭാവം വെളിപ്പെടുകയും കൽപ്പനയിലൂടെ പാപത്തിന്റെ ഭീകരത വ്യക്തമാകുകയുമാണ് ചെയ്യുന്നത്.

14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

ന്യായപ്രമാണം ആത്മികം എന്ന് നമുക്കറിയാം; ഞാനോ പാപത്തിന് വിൽക്കപ്പെട്ട വെറും മനുഷ്യൻ.

15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

എനിക്ക് എന്നെത്തന്നെ മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്നില്ല; ഞാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നതല്ല, പിന്നെയോ ഞാൻ വെറുക്കുന്നതാണ് ചെയ്തുപോകുന്നത്.

16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.

ഇങ്ങനെ ഞാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കാത്ത തിന്മചെയ്യുന്നെങ്കിൽ, ന്യായപ്രമാണം നല്ലതെന്നു ഞാൻ സമ്മതിക്കുകയാണ്.

17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells in me.

എന്നാൽ, അതു ഞാനല്ല പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നത്, എന്നിലുള്ള പാപമാണ്.

18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh, ) dwells no good thing: in order to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

എന്നിൽ, അതായത്, എന്റെ മനുഷ്യപ്രകൃതിയിൽ ഒരു നന്മയും വസിക്കുന്നില്ല എന്നു ഞാൻ അറിയുന്നു. നന്മ പ്രവർത്തിക്കാൻ എനിക്ക് ആഗ്രഹമുണ്ടെങ്കിലും, അതു പ്രവർത്തിക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്നില്ല.

19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

ഞാൻ ചെയ്യാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്ന നന്മയല്ല, ആഗ്രഹിക്കാത്ത തിന്മയാണ് ചെയ്തുപോകുന്നത്.

20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells in me.

അങ്ങനെ, ആഗ്രഹിക്കാത്തതാണ് ഞാൻ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നതെങ്കിൽ, ഞാനല്ല എന്നിൽ വസിക്കുന്ന പാപമാണ് അതു പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നത്.

21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

അതുകൊണ്ടു നന്മചെയ്യാൻ ഞാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുമ്പോൾത്തന്നെ, തിന്മ എന്നൊരു തത്ത്വം എന്നോടൊപ്പമുണ്ടെന്നു ഞാൻ മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്നു.

22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

എന്റെ അന്തരംഗത്തിൽ ഞാൻ ദൈവികന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിൽ ആഹ്ലാദിക്കുന്നു;

23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

എന്നാൽ എന്റെ ബുദ്ധിയോടു പോരാടുന്ന മറ്റൊരു തത്ത്വം എന്റെ അവയവങ്ങളിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നെന്നു ഞാൻ കാണുന്നു; അത് എന്റെ അവയവങ്ങളിലുള്ള പാപപ്രഭാവത്തിന് എന്നെ അടിമയാക്കുകയുംചെയ്യുന്നു.

24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

അയ്യോ! ഞാൻ എത്ര നിസ്സഹായൻ! മരണത്തിലേക്കെന്നെ നയിക്കുന്ന ഈ ശരീരത്തിൽനിന്ന് എന്നെ ആർ സ്വതന്ത്രനാക്കും?

25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

നമ്മുടെ കർത്താവായ യേശുക്രിസ്തു; ദൈവത്തിനു സ്തോത്രം! ഞാൻ ബുദ്ധികൊണ്ടു ദൈവികന്യായപ്രമാണത്തെയും ശരീരംകൊണ്ടു പാപത്തിന്റെ തത്ത്വത്തെയും സേവിക്കുന്നു.
