Proverbs 6
1 My son, if you be guarantor for your friend, if you have stricken your hand with a stranger,
Hijo mío, si te has convertido en garantía de tu prójimo, si has golpeado tus manos en prenda por un extraño,
2 You are snared with the words of your mouth, you are taken with the words of your mouth.
estás atrapado por las palabras de tu boca; estás atrapado con las palabras de tu boca.
3 Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, when you are come into the hand of your friend; go, humble yourself, and make sure your friend.
Hazlo ahora, hijo mío, y líbrate, ya que has llegado a la mano de tu vecino. Ve, humíllate. Presiona tu súplica con tu vecino.
4 Give not sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids.
No le des sueño a tus ojos, ni el sueño a sus párpados.
5 Deliver yourself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
Libérate, como una gacela de la mano del cazador, como un pájaro de la trampa del cazador.
6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
Ve a la hormiga, perezoso. Considera sus formas, y sé sabio;
7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
que no tienen jefe, supervisor o gobernante,
8 Provides her food in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.
le proporciona el pan en el verano, y recoge su alimento en la cosecha.
9 How long will you sleep, O sluggard? when will you arise out of your sleep?
¿Cuánto tiempo vas a dormir, perezoso? ¿Cuándo te levantarás de tu sueño?
10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
Un poco de sueño, un poco de sopor, un pequeño pliegue de las manos para dormir —
11 So shall your poverty come as one that travels, and your lack as an armed man.
así que tu pobreza vendrá como un ladrón, y su escasez como hombre armado.
12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walks with a perverse mouth.
Una persona sin valor, un hombre de iniquidad, es el que anda con la boca perversa,
13 He winks with his eyes, he speaks with his feet, he teaches with his fingers;
que guiña los ojos, que hace señales con los pies, que hace gestos con los dedos,
14 Perverseness is in his heart, he devises mischief continually; he sows discord.
en cuyo corazón hay perversidad, que urde el mal continuamente, que siempre siembra la discordia.
15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
Por lo tanto, su calamidad vendrá de repente. Se romperá de repente, y eso sin remedio.
16 These six things does the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
Hay seis cosas que Yahvé odia; sí, siete que son una abominación para él:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
ojos arrogantes, una lengua mentirosa, manos que derraman sangre inocente,
18 An heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
un corazón que urde planes perversos, pies que son rápidos en correr a la travesura,
19 A false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.
un testigo falso que dice mentiras, y el que siembra la discordia entre hermanos.
20 My son, keep your father's commandment, and forsake not the law of your mother:
Hijo mío, cumple el mandamiento de tu padre, y no abandones las enseñanzas de tu madre.
21 Bind them continually upon your heart, and tie them about your neck.
Átalas continuamente en tu corazón. Átalos alrededor de tu cuello.
22 When you go, it shall lead you; when you sleep, it shall keep you; and when you awake, it shall talk with you.
Cuando camines, te guiará. Cuando duermas, te vigilará. Cuando te despiertes, hablará contigo.
23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
Porque el mandamiento es una lámpara, y la ley es ligera. Los reproches de instrucción son el camino de la vida,
24 To keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
para alejarte de la mujer inmoral, de los halagos de la lengua de la esposa díscola.
25 Lust not after her beauty in your heart; neither let her take you with her eyelids.
No codicies su belleza en tu corazón, ni dejar que te cautive con sus párpados.
26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.
Porque una prostituta te reduce a un trozo de pan. La adúltera caza tu preciosa vida.
27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
¿Puede un hombre recoger fuego en su regazo, y sus ropas no sean quemadas?
28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?
O se puede caminar sobre las brasas, y sus pies no se quemen?
29 So he that goes in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever touches her shall not be innocent.
Así es el que se acerca a la mujer de su prójimo. Quien la toque no quedará impune.
30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
Los hombres no desprecian al ladrón si roba para satisfacerse cuando tiene hambre,
31 But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.
pero si se le encuentra, deberá restituir siete veces. Dará toda la riqueza de su casa.
32 But whoso commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding: he that does it destroys his own soul.
El que comete adulterio con una mujer está vacío de entendimiento. Quien lo hace destruye su propia alma.
33 A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
Recibirá heridas y deshonra. Su reproche no será borrado.
34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
Porque los celos despiertan la furia del marido. No perdonará en el día de la venganza.
35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.
No considerará ningún rescate, ni estará contento, aunque le des muchos regalos.
