< Matthew 28 >
1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the tomb.
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to see the tomb along with the other Mary.
2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone from the entrance and sat on it.
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow.
4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
The guards were so afraid of him that they trembled and became like dead men.
5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not all of you: for I know that all of you seek Jesus, which was crucified.
Then the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who has been crucified.
6 He is not here: for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
He is not here, for he is risen, just as he said. Come see the place where the Lord lay.
7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead; and, behold, he goes before you into Galilee; there shall all of you see him: lo, I have told you.
Now go quickly and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead. And behold, he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him. Listen to what I have told you.”
8 And they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.
9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
As they went on their way to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” So they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him.
10 Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.
Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”
11 Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and showed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.
As they went, behold, some of the guards went into the city and brought word to the chief priests of all that had taken place.
12 And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
After the chief priests had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers
13 Saying, Say all of you, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.
and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were sleeping.’
14 And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.
If this matter is heard before the governor, we will persuade him and keep you free from concern.”
15 So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying (logos) is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
So they took the money and did as they had been instructed. And this story is still being spread among the Jews today.
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
Meanwhile, the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them to go.
17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
When they saw him, they worshiped him, but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Then Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19 Go all of you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit: (pneuma)
Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (aiōn )
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (aiōn )
