< Matthew 19 >

1 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, (logos) he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;
Pea ʻi he fakaʻosi ʻe Sisu ʻene ngaahi lea ni, naʻe ʻalu ia mei Kaleli, pea haʻu ia ki he ngaahi potu ʻo Siutea, ʻo ofi ki Sioatani.
2 And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.
Pea muimui ʻiate ia ʻae kakai tokolahi ʻaupito: pea ne fakamoʻui ʻakinautolu ʻi ai.
3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
Naʻe haʻu foki ʻae kau Fālesi kiate ia, ʻo ʻahiʻahiʻi ia, ʻonau pehē kiate ia, “ʻOku ngofua ki he tangata ke tukuange hono uaifi ʻi he meʻa kotoa pē?”
4 And he answered and said unto them, Have all of you not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
Pea lea ia, “ʻO pehēange kiate kinautolu, Naʻe ʻikai te mou lau, ko ia naʻa ne fakatupu [ʻae kakai ]ʻi he kamataʻanga, ‘naʻa ne fakatupu ʻakinaua ko e tangata mo e fefine,’
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they two shall be one flesh?
‌ʻO ne pehē, ‘Ko e meʻa eni ʻe tuku ai ʻe he tangata ʻene tamai mo ʻene faʻē, kae pikitai ki hono uaifi: pea ʻe hoko ʻakinaua ko e kakano pe taha?’
6 Wherefore they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder.
Ko ia ʻoku ʻikai ai te na kei ua, ka ko e kakano pe taha. Pea ko eni, ko ia kuo fakataha ʻe he ʻOtua, ʻoua naʻa fakamāvae ʻe ha tangata.”
7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?
Pea nau pehē kiate ia, “Ka kuo pehē, ko e hā naʻe fekau ai ʻe Mōsese ke ʻoatu ʻae tohi fakamāvae, pea ke tukuange ia?”
8 He says unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
Pea pehēange ʻe ia kiate kinautolu, “Ko e meʻa ʻi he fefeka ʻo homou loto, ko ia naʻe kātaki ai ʻe Mōsese ʻa hoʻomou tukuange homou uaifi: ka naʻe ʻikai pehē mei he kamataʻanga.
9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, commits adultery: and whoso marries her which is put away does commit adultery.
Pea ʻoku ou tala atu kiate kimoutolu, Ko ia ʻe tukuange hono uaifi, ka ʻi [heʻene ]tono tangata pe, pea fakamaʻu ia mo ha tokotaha kehe, ko e tono fefine ia: pea ko ia ʻe fakamaʻu mo ia kuo tukuange, ko e tono fefine ia.”
10 His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.
Pea pehē ʻene kau ākonga kiate ia, “Kapau ʻoku pehē pe ʻae tangata mo hono uaifi, tā ʻoku ʻikai lelei ke fakamaʻu.”
11 But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, (logos) save they to whom it is given.
Ka naʻe pehē ʻe ia kiate kinautolu, “ʻOku ʻikai faʻa maʻu ʻae tala ni ʻe he tangata kotoa pē, ka ko kinautolu kuo foaki ia ki ai.
12 For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.
He ʻoku ai ʻae niʻihi ʻoku ʻiunoke, ʻi heʻenau fanauʻi mei he manāva ʻo [ʻenau ]faʻē: pea ʻoku ai ʻae ʻiunoke niʻihi, kuo ngaohi ke ʻiunoke ʻe he tangata: pea ʻoku ai ʻae ʻiunoke niʻihi, kuo nau ngaohi ʻakinautolu ke ʻiunoke, koeʻuhi ko e puleʻanga ʻoe langi. Ko ia ʻoku ne faʻa maʻu ia, ke maʻu pe ʻe ia.”
13 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.
Pea naʻe ʻomi ai kiate ia ʻae tamaiki iiki, koeʻuhi ke ne hilifaki hono nima kiate kinautolu, ʻo lotu: ka naʻe lolomi ʻakinautolu ʻe he kau ākonga.
14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Sisu, “ʻOua ʻe taʻofi, kae tuku ke haʻu kiate au ʻae tamaiki iiki: he ʻoku ʻoe kakai pehē ʻae puleʻanga ʻoe langi.”
15 And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.
Pea hilifaki ʻe ia hono nima kiate kinautolu, ka ka ʻalu mei ai.
16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? (aiōnios g166)
Pea vakai, naʻe haʻu ʻae tokotaha kiate ia, ʻo ne pehē, “ʻE ʻEiki lelei, ko e hā ha meʻa lelei te u fai ke u maʻu ai ʻae moʻui taʻengata?” (aiōnios g166)
17 And he said unto him, Why call you me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if you will enter into life, keep the commandments.
Pea pehēange ʻe ia kiate ia, “Ko e hā ʻoku ke ui ai au ko e lelei? Ko e tokotaha pe ʻoku lelei ʻaia ko e ʻOtua: ka ko ho loto ke ke hū ki he moʻui pea ke fai ki he ngaahi fekau.”
18 He says unto him, Which? Jesus said, You shall do no murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness,
Pea pehē ʻe ia kiate ia, “ʻA fē?” Pea pehē ʻe Sisu, “‘ʻOua naʻa ke fakapō,’ ‘ʻOua naʻa ke tono fefine,’ ‘ʻOua naʻa ke kaihaʻa,’ ‘ʻOua naʻa ke fakamoʻoni loi,’
19 Honour your father and your mother: and, You shall love your neighbour as yourself.
‘Fakaʻapaʻapa ki hoʻo tamai mo[hoʻo ]faʻē:’ pea, ‘Ke ʻofa ki ho kaungāʻapi ʻo hangē pe ko koe.’”
20 The young man says unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
Pea pehēange ʻe he talavou kiate ia, “Kuo u fai kotoa pē eni talu ʻeku kei siʻi: ko e hā ʻoku ou kei hala ai?”
21 Jesus said unto him, If you will be perfect, go and sell that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
Pea talaange ʻe Sisu kiate ia, “Kapau ko ho loto ke ke haohaoa, ʻalu ʻo fakatau ʻaia ʻoku ʻaʻau, mo foaki ki he masiva, pea te ke maʻu ai ʻae koloa ʻi he langi: pea ke haʻu, ʻo muimui ʻiate au.”
22 But when the young man heard that saying, (logos) he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
Ka ʻi he fanongo ʻae talavou ki he lea ko ia, naʻa ne ʻalu mamahi: he naʻe lahi ʻene koloa.
23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Pea pehē ai ʻe Sisu ki heʻene kau ākonga, “Ko ʻeku tala moʻoni atu kiate kimoutolu, ʻE faingataʻa ʻaupito ʻae hū ʻae tangata koloaʻia ki he puleʻanga ʻoe langi.
24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Pea ʻoku ou tala foki kiate kimoutolu, ʻoku faingofua ke hū ʻae kāmeli ʻi he avaʻi hui, ʻi he hū ʻae tangata koloaʻia ki he puleʻanga ʻoe ʻOtua.”
25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
Pea ʻi he fanongo ki ai ʻene kau ākonga, naʻa nau ofo lahi ʻaupito, ʻonau pehē, “Pea ko hai ʻe moʻui?”
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
Pea vakai ʻe Sisu, ʻo ne pehē kiate kinautolu, “ʻOku ʻikai faʻa fai eni ʻe he tangata; ka ʻoku faʻa fai ʻe he ʻOtua ʻae meʻa kotoa pē.”
27 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed you; what shall we have therefore?
Pea toki lea ai ʻa Pita, ʻo pehēange kiate ia, “Vakai, kuo mau siʻaki ʻae meʻa kotoa pē, ʻo muimui ʻiate koe: ko e hā te mau maʻu ai?”
28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That all of you which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, all of you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Pea talaange ʻe Sisu kiate kinautolu, “Ko ʻeku tala moʻoni atu kiate kimoutolu, Ko kimoutolu kuo muimui ʻiate au, ʻoka nofo ʻae Foha ʻoe tangata ki he nofoʻa ʻo hono nāunau, ʻi he fakafoʻou, ʻe nofo ʻakimoutolu foki ki he nofoʻa ʻe hongofulu ma ua, ʻo fakamaau ai ki he faʻahinga ʻe hongofulu ma ua ʻo ʻIsileli.
29 And every one that has forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. (aiōnios g166)
Pea ko ia fulipē kuo ne liʻaki ʻae fale, pe ʻae kāinga, pe ko e tuofefine, pe ko e tamai, pe ko e faʻē, pe ko e uaifi, pe ʻae fānau, pe ʻae fonua, koeʻuhi ko hoku hingoa, te ne maʻu ʻo taki teau, pea te ne maʻu mo e moʻui taʻengata. (aiōnios g166)
30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
Ka ko e tokolahi ʻoku muʻomuʻa te nau muimui; pea ko e muimui ʻe muʻomuʻa.
