Matthew 19
1 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, (logos) he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;
Or il arriva, quand Jésus eut achevé ces discours, qu'il partit de la Galilée et vint sur le territoire de la Judée, au delà du Jourdain.
2 And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.
De grandes foules l'y suivirent, et il guérit leurs malades.
3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
Alors les pharisiens s'approchèrent pour le mettre à l'épreuve, et ils lui dirent: Est-il permis de répudier sa femme, pour quelque sujet que ce soit?
4 And he answered and said unto them, Have all of you not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
Il leur répondit: N'avez-vous pas lu que le Créateur, au commencement, fit un homme et une femme,
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they two shall be one flesh?
et qu'il dit: «C'est pourquoi, l'homme quittera son père et sa mère, et s'attachera à sa femme; et les deux ne feront plus qu'une seule chair»?
6 Wherefore they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder.
Ainsi ils ne sont plus deux, mais une seule chair. Que l'homme ne sépare donc pas ce que Dieu a uni!
7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?
Ils lui dirent: Pourquoi donc Moïse a-t-il commandé de donner à la femme une lettre de divorce pour la répudier?
8 He says unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
Il leur répondit: C'est à cause de la dureté de votre coeur que Moïse vous a permis de répudier vos femmes; mais, au commencement, il n'en était pas ainsi.
9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, commits adultery: and whoso marries her which is put away does commit adultery.
Or, je vous le déclare, quiconque répudie sa femme, si ce n'est pour inconduite, et en épouse une autre, commet un adultère.
10 His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.
Ses disciples lui dirent: Si telle est la condition de l'homme à l'égard de la femme, il vaut mieux ne pas se marier!
11 But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, (logos) save they to whom it is given.
Il leur répondit: Tous ne sont pas capables d'accepter cette parole, mais seulement ceux à qui cela est donné.
12 For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.
Car il y a des eunuques qui le sont dès le sein de leur mère; il y en a qui ont été faits eunuques par les hommes, et il y en a qui se sont faits eunuques eux-mêmes pour le royaume des cieux. Que celui qui peut recevoir cette parole, la reçoive!
13 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.
A ce moment, on lui présenta des petits enfants, afin qu'il leur imposât les mains et qu'il priât pour eux; et les disciples reprenaient ceux qui les présentaient.
14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
Mais Jésus leur dit: Laissez venir à moi les petits enfants, et ne les en empêchez point; car le royaume des cieux est pour ceux qui leur ressemblent.
15 And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.
Et, leur ayant imposé les mains, il partit de là.
16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? (aiōnios g166)
Alors un homme s'approcha et lui dit: Maître, que dois-je faire de bon pour avoir la vie éternelle? (aiōnios g166)
17 And he said unto him, Why call you me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if you will enter into life, keep the commandments.
Jésus lui dit: Pourquoi m'interroges-tu sur ce qui est bon? Un seul est bon. Si tu veux entrer dans la vie, observe les commandements.
18 He says unto him, Which? Jesus said, You shall do no murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness,
— Lesquels? dit-il. — Jésus lui répondit: Ceux-ci: «Tu ne tueras point; tu ne commettras point d'adultère; tu ne déroberas point; tu ne diras point de faux témoignage;
19 Honour your father and your mother: and, You shall love your neighbour as yourself.
honore ton père et ta mère»; et aussi: «Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même.»
20 The young man says unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
Le jeune homme lui dit: J'ai observé toutes ces choses; que me manque-t-il encore?
21 Jesus said unto him, If you will be perfect, go and sell that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
Jésus lui dit: Si tu veux être parfait, va, vends ce que tu as, donne-le aux pauvres, et tu auras un trésor dans le ciel; puis, viens et suis-moi.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, (logos) he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
Mais quand le jeune homme eut entendu cette parole, il s'en alla tout triste; car il avait de grands biens.
23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Alors Jésus dit à ses disciples: En vérité, je vous le déclare, un riche entrera difficilement dans le royaume des cieux.
24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Je vous le répète: Il est plus aisé qu'un chameau passe par le trou de l'aiguille, qu'il ne l'est à un riche d'entrer dans le royaume de Dieu.
25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
En entendant ces paroles, ses disciples furent extrêmement étonnés, et ils disaient: Qui donc peut être sauvé?
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
Jésus, les regardant, leur dit: Cela est impossible aux hommes; mais tout est possible à Dieu.
27 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed you; what shall we have therefore?
Alors Pierre, prenant la parole, lui dit: Et nous, nous avons tout quitté, et nous t'avons suivi; qu'avons-nous donc à attendre?
28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That all of you which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, all of you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Jésus leur répondit: En vérité, je vous le déclare, au renouvellement de toutes choses, lorsque le Fils de l'homme sera assis sur le trône de sa gloire, vous qui m'avez suivi, vous serez de même assis sur douze trônes, jugeant les douze tribus d'Israël.
29 And every one that has forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. (aiōnios g166)
Et quiconque aura quitté frères ou soeurs, ou père, ou mère, ou enfants, ou champs, ou maisons, à cause de mon nom, recevra beaucoup plus, et il héritera de la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)
30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
Mais plusieurs des premiers seront les derniers, et plusieurs des derniers seront les premiers.
