< Leviticus 10 >
1 And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not.
Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron [Light-bringer], each took his censer, and put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and offered strange, foreign, adulterated fire before Adonai, which he had not enjoined them.
2 And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.
Fire came out from before Adonai, and devoured them, and they died before Adonai.
3 Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spoke, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.
Then Moses [Drawn out] said to Aaron [Light-bringer], “This is what Adonai spoke of, saying, ‘I will show myself holy to those who come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified.’” Aaron [Light-bringer] held his peace.
4 And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp.
Moses [Drawn out] called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the dod ·uncle· of Aaron [Light-bringer], and said to them, “Draw near, carry your brothers from before the sanctuary out of the camp.”
5 So they went near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp; as Moses had said.
So they came near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp, as Moses [Drawn out] had said.
6 And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest all of you die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, mourn for the burning which the LORD has kindled.
Moses [Drawn out] said to Aaron [Light-bringer], and to Eleazar [Help of God] and to Ithamar, his sons, “Don’t let the hair of your heads go loose, and don’t tear your clothes; so that you don’t die, and so that he not be angry with all the congregation; but let your brothers, the whole house of Israel [God prevails], bewail the burning which Adonai has kindled.
7 And all of you shall not go out from the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, lest all of you die: for the anointing oil of the LORD is upon you. And they did according to the word of Moses.
You shall not go out from the door of the Tent of Meeting, lest you die; for the anointing oil of Adonai is on you.” They did according to the word of Moses [Drawn out].
8 And the LORD spoke unto Aaron, saying,
Then Adonai said to Aaron [Light-bringer],
9 Do not drink wine nor strong drink, you, nor your sons with you, when all of you go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest all of you die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:
“You and your sons are not to drink wine or strong drink whenever you go into the Tent of Meeting, or you will die. This shall be a regulation forever throughout all your generations.
10 And that all of you may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean;
You are to make a distinction between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the clean.
11 And that all of you may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the LORD has spoken unto them by the hand of Moses.
You are to teach the children of Israel [God prevails] all the statutes which Adonai has spoken to them by Moses [Drawn out].”
12 And Moses spoke unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons that were left, Take the food offering that remains of the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and eat it without leaven beside the altar: for it is most holy:
Moses [Drawn out] spoke to Aaron [Light-bringer], and to Eleazar [Help of God] and to Ithamar, his sons who were left, “Take the meal offering that remains of the offerings of Adonai made by fire, and eat it without yeast beside the altar; for it is most holy;
13 And all of you shall eat it in the holy place, because it is your due, and your sons' due, of the sacrifices of the LORD made by fire: for so I am commanded.
and you shall eat it in a holy place, because it is your chok ·portion·, and your sons’ chok ·portion·, of the offerings of Adonai made by fire: for so I am enjoined.
14 And the wave breast and heave shoulder shall all of you eat in a clean place; you, and your sons, and your daughters with you: for they be your due, and your sons' due, which are given out of the sacrifices of peace offerings of the children of Israel.
The breast that is waved and the thigh that is raised you shall eat in a clean place, you, and your sons, and your daughters with you: for they are given as your chok ·portion·, and your sons’ chok ·portion·, out of the sacrifices of the peace offerings of the children of Israel [God prevails].
15 The heave shoulder and the wave breast shall they bring with the offerings made by fire of the fat, to wave it for a wave offering before the LORD; and it shall be yours, and your sons' with you, by a statute for ever; as the LORD has commanded.
The thigh that is raised and the breast that is waved they shall bring with the offerings made by fire of the fat, to wave it for a wave offering before Adonai: and it shall be yours, and your sons’ with you, as a chok ·portion· forever; as Adonai has enjoined.”
16 And Moses diligently sought the goat of the sin offering, and, behold, it was burnt: and he was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, the sons of Aaron which were left alive, saying,
Moses [Drawn out] diligently inquired about the goat of the habitual sin ·miss the mark· offering, and, behold, it was burned: and he was angry with Eleazar [Help of God] and with Ithamar, the sons of Aaron [Light-bringer] who were left, saying,
17 Wherefore have all of you not eaten the sin offering in the holy place, seeing it is most holy, and God has given it you to bear the iniquity of the congregation, to make atonement for them before the LORD?
“Why haven’t you eaten the habitual sin ·miss the mark· offering in the place of the sanctuary, since it is most holy, and he has given it you to bear the depravity (moral evil) of the congregation, to make atonement for them before Adonai?
18 Behold, the blood of it was not brought in within the holy place: all of you should indeed have eaten it in the holy place, as I commanded.
Behold, its blood was not brought into the inner part of the sanctuary: you certainly should have eaten it in the sanctuary, as I enjoined.”
19 And Aaron said unto Moses, Behold, this day have they offered their sin offering and their burnt offering before the LORD; and such things have befallen me: and if I had eaten the sin offering to day, should it have been accepted in the sight of the LORD?
Aaron [Light-bringer] spoke to Moses [Drawn out], “Behold, today they have offered their habitual sin ·miss the mark· offering and their burnt offering before Adonai; and such things as these have happened to me. If I had eaten the habitual sin ·miss the mark· offering today, would it have been pleasing in Adonai’s sight?”
20 And when Moses heard that, he was content.
When Moses [Drawn out] sh'ma ·heard obeyed· that, it was pleasing in his sight.
