< John 2 >

1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
anantaraṁ trutīyadivase gālīl pradeśiye kānnānāmni nagare vivāha āsīt tatra ca yīśormātā tiṣṭhat|
2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
tasmai vivāhāya yīśustasya śiṣyāśca nimantritā āsan|
3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus says unto him, They have no wine.
tadanantaraṁ drākṣārasasya nyūnatvād yīśormātā tamavadat eteṣāṁ drākṣāraso nāsti|
4 Jesus says unto her, Woman, what have I to do with you? mine hour is not yet come.
tadā sa tāmavocat he nāri mayā saha tava kiṁ kāryyaṁ? mama samaya idānīṁ nopatiṣṭhati|
5 His mother says unto the servants, Whatsoever he says unto you, do it.
tatastasya mātā dāsānavocad ayaṁ yad vadati tadeva kuruta|
6 And there were set there six water pots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
tasmin sthāne yihūdīyānāṁ śucitvakaraṇavyavahārānusāreṇāḍhakaikajaladharāṇi pāṣāṇamayāni ṣaḍvṛhatpātrāṇiāsan|
7 Jesus says unto them, Fill the water pots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
tadā yīśustān sarvvakalaśān jalaiḥ pūrayituṁ tānājñāpayat, tataste sarvvān kumbhānākarṇaṁ jalaiḥ paryyapūrayan|
8 And he says unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
atha tebhyaḥ kiñciduttāryya bhojyādhipāteḥsamīpaṁ netuṁ sa tānādiśat, te tadanayan|
9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew; ) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
aparañca tajjalaṁ kathaṁ drākṣāraso'bhavat tajjalavāhakādāsā jñātuṁ śaktāḥ kintu tadbhojyādhipo jñātuṁ nāśaknot tadavalihya varaṁ saṁmbodyāvadata,
10 And says unto him, Every man at the beginning does set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but you have kept the good wine until now.
lokāḥ prathamaṁ uttamadrākṣārasaṁ dadati taṣu yatheṣṭaṁ pitavatsu tasmā kiñcidanuttamañca dadati kintu tvamidānīṁ yāvat uttamadrākṣārasaṁ sthāpayasi|
11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
itthaṁ yīśurgālīlapradeśe āścaryyakārmma prārambha nijamahimānaṁ prākāśayat tataḥ śiṣyāstasmin vyaśvasan|
12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.
tataḥ param sa nijamātrubhrātrusśiṣyaiḥ sārddhṁ kapharnāhūmam āgamat kintu tatra bahūdināni ātiṣṭhat|
13 And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
tadanantaraṁ yihūdiyānāṁ nistārotsave nikaṭamāgate yīśu ryirūśālam nagaram āgacchat|
14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
tato mandirasya madhye gomeṣapārāvatavikrayiṇo vāṇijakṣcopaviṣṭān vilokya
15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
rajjubhiḥ kaśāṁ nirmmāya sarvvagomeṣādibhiḥ sārddhaṁ tān mandirād dūrīkṛtavān|
16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things behind; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.
vaṇijāṁ mudrādi vikīryya āsanāni nyūbjīkṛtya pārāvatavikrayibhyo'kathayad asmāt sthānāt sarvāṇyetāni nayata, mama pitugṛhaṁ vāṇijyagṛhaṁ mā kārṣṭa|
17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of your house has eaten me up.
tasmāt tanmandirārtha udyogo yastu sa grasatīva mām| imāṁ śāstrīyalipiṁ śiṣyāḥsamasmaran|
18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign show you unto us, seeing that you do these things?
tataḥ param yihūdīyalokā yīṣimavadan tavamidṛśakarmmakaraṇāt kiṁ cihnamasmān darśayasi?
19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
tato yīśustānavocad yuṣmābhire tasmin mandire nāśite dinatrayamadhye'haṁ tad utthāpayiṣyāmi|
20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and will you rear it up in three days?
tadā yihūdiyā vyāhārṣuḥ, etasya mandirasa nirmmāṇena ṣaṭcatvāriṁśad vatsarā gatāḥ, tvaṁ kiṁ dinatrayamadhye tad utthāpayiṣyasi?
21 But he spoke of the temple of his body.
kintu sa nijadeharūpamandire kathāmimāṁ kathitavān|
22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word (logos) which Jesus had said.
sa yadetādṛśaṁ gaditavān tacchiṣyāḥ śmaśānāt tadīyotthāne sati smṛtvā dharmmagranthe yīśunoktakathāyāṁ ca vyaśvasiṣuḥ|
23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.
anantaraṁ nistārotsavasya bhojyasamaye yirūśālam nagare tatkrutāścaryyakarmmāṇi vilokya bahubhistasya nāmani viśvasitaṁ|
24 But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,
kintu sa teṣāṁ kareṣu svaṁ na samarpayat, yataḥ sa sarvvānavait|
25 And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.
sa mānaveṣu kasyacit pramāṇaṁ nāpekṣata yato manujānāṁ madhye yadyadasti tattat sojānāt|
