< John 11 >

1 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
Na rĩrĩ, kwarĩ na mũndũ wetagwo Lazaro, nake aarĩ mũrũaru. Aarĩ wa Bethania, itũũra rĩa Mariamu na mwarĩ wa nyina Maritha.
2 (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
3 Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom you love is sick.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio aarĩ acio a nyina magĩtũmanĩra Jesũ akeerwo atĩrĩ, “Mwathani, ũrĩa wendete nĩmũrũaru.”
4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
Jesũ nĩendete Maritha na mwarĩ wa nyina, o na Lazaro.
6 When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
No o na thuutha wa kũigua atĩ Lazaro aarĩ mũrũaru-rĩ, aikarire kũu aarĩ mĩthenya ĩngĩ ĩĩrĩ.
7 Then after that says he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
Agĩcooka akĩĩra arutwo ake atĩrĩ, “Nĩtũcookei Judea.”
8 His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone you; and go you thither again?
Nao makĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “No rĩrĩ Rabii, o rĩu ica ikuhĩ Ayahudi marageragia gũkũhũũra na mahiga nyuguto, na rĩu ũrenda gũcooka kuo?”
9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbles not, because he sees the light of this world.
10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbles, because there is no light in him.
Ahĩngagwo rĩrĩa egũthiĩ ũtukũ, nĩ ũndũ ndarĩ na ũtheri.”
11 These things said he: and after that he says unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
Aarĩkia kuuga ũguo, agĩcooka akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Mũrata witũ Lazaro nĩakomete; no nĩngũthiĩ kũu ngamũũkĩrie.”
12 Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
Arutwo ake makĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Mwathani, akorwo nĩ gũkoma akomete-rĩ, nĩekũhona.”
13 Nevertheless Jesus spoke of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
Jesũ aaragia ũhoro wa gĩkuũ gĩake, no arutwo ake meciiragia aaragia ũhoro wa toro wa ndũire.
14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio akĩmeera na njĩra ĩgũtaũka, atĩrĩ, “Lazaro nĩmũkuũ,
15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent all of you may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
no nĩ ũndũ wanyu nĩngenete nĩgũkorwo ndiraarĩ kuo, nĩgeetha mwĩtĩkie. No rĩrĩ, nĩtũthiĩi kũrĩ we.”
16 Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellow disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
Nake Toma (ũrĩa wetagwo Wa-mahatha) akĩĩra arutwo arĩa angĩ atĩrĩ, “Nĩtũthiĩi o na ithuĩ, tũgakuanĩre nake.”
17 Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.
Jesũ aakinya-rĩ, agĩkora Lazaro nĩaniinĩte mĩthenya ĩna thĩinĩ wa mbĩrĩra.
18 Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:
Na rĩrĩ, itũũra rĩa Bethania rĩtiakinyĩtie kilomita ithatũ kuuma Jerusalemu,
19 And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
nao Ayahudi aingĩ nĩmokĩte kũu kwa Maritha na Mariamu kũmomĩrĩria nĩ ũndũ wa gũkuĩrwo nĩ mũrũ wa nyina wao.
20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.
Rĩrĩa Maritha aiguire atĩ Jesũ nĩarooka, akiuma, agĩthiĩ kũmũtũnga, no Mariamu agĩikara kũu mũciĩ.
21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if you had been here, my brother had not died.
Maritha akĩĩra Jesũ atĩrĩ, “Mwathani ũngĩraarĩ gũkũ-rĩ, mũrũ wa maitũ ndangĩrakuire.
22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever you will ask of God, God will give it you.
No rĩrĩ, nĩnjũũĩ atĩ o na rĩu Ngai nĩegũkũhe o kĩrĩa gĩothe ũngĩhooya.”
23 Jesus says unto her, Your brother shall rise again.
Nake Jesũ akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Mũrũ wa maitũguo nĩekũriũka.” Nake Maritha akĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ,
24 Martha says unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
“Nĩnjũũĩ nĩakariũka hĩndĩ ya iriũkĩro mũthenya wa mũthia.”
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
Nake Jesũ akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Niĩ nĩ niĩ kũriũka na nĩ niĩ muoyo. Nake ũrĩa wothe ũnjĩtĩkĩtie, o na aakua, nĩagatũũra muoyo;
26 And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Believe you this? (aiōn g165)
nake ũrĩa wothe ũtũũraga muoyo na nĩanjĩtĩkĩtie, ndarĩ hĩndĩ agaakua. Wee nĩwĩtĩkĩtie ũguo?” (aiōn g165)
27 She says unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
Nake Maritha akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Ĩĩ Mwathani, nĩnjĩtĩkĩtie atĩ wee nĩwe Kristũ, Mũrũ wa Ngai, ũrĩa wĩrĩtwo nĩagooka gũkũ thĩ.”
28 And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master has come, and calls for you.
Nake aarĩkia kuuga ũguo, agĩcooka agĩthiĩ agĩĩta mwarĩ wa nyina Mariamu keeheri-inĩ, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Mũrutani arĩ gũkũ na nĩarakũũria.”
29 As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.
Rĩrĩa Mariamu aiguire ũguo, akĩrũgama na ihenya agĩthiĩ kũrĩ we.
30 Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.
Na hĩndĩ ĩyo Jesũ ndaakoretwo atoonyete itũũra, no aarĩ o harĩa Maritha aamũtũngĩte.
31 The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goes unto the grave to weep there.
Rĩrĩa Ayahudi acio maarĩ na Mariamu kũu nyũmba makĩmũũmĩrĩria monire ũrĩa okĩra na ihenya oimĩte nja, makĩmũrũmĩrĩra, magĩĩciiria atĩ aathiiaga mbĩrĩra-inĩ akarĩrĩre ho.
32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if you had been here, my brother had not died.
Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa Mariamu aakinyire harĩa Jesũ aarĩ na akĩmuona, akĩgũa thĩ magũrũ-inĩ make, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Mwathani, ũngĩraarĩ gũkũ, mũrũ wa maitũ ndangĩrakuire.”
33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, (pneuma) and was troubled.
Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa Jesũ aamuonire akĩrĩra, na Ayahudi arĩa mokĩte hamwe nake o nao makĩrĩra-rĩ, agĩcaaya mũno roho-inĩ thĩinĩ na agĩtangĩka ngoro.
34 And said, Where have all of you laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
Akĩmooria atĩrĩ, “Mũmũigĩte ha?” Nao makĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Mwathani, ũka wone.”
35 Jesus wept.
Jesũ akĩrĩra.
36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
Nao Ayahudi makiuga atĩrĩ, “Onei ũrĩa aramwendete!”
37 And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
No amwe ao makĩũrania atĩrĩ, “Mũndũ ũyũ ũrahingũrire mũtumumu maitho-rĩ, ndangĩrahotire kũgiria akue?”
38 Jesus therefore again groaning in himself comes to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
Nake Jesũ, o rĩngĩ acaaĩte mũno, agĩthiĩ mbĩrĩra-inĩ. Mbĩrĩra ĩyo yarĩ ngurunga na yahingĩtwo na ihiga.
39 Jesus said, Take all of you away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, says unto him, Lord, by this time he stinks: for he has been dead four days.
Nake Jesũ akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Eheriai ihiga.” No Maritha, mwarĩ wa nyina na mũndũ ũcio wakuĩte, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Mwathani, rĩu nĩmũnungu nĩ ũndũ nĩaniinĩte mĩthenya ĩna ho.”
40 Jesus says unto her, Said I not unto you, that, if you would believe, you should see the glory of God?
Nake Jesũ akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Githĩ ndikwĩrire atĩ wetĩkia nĩũkuona riiri wa Ngai?”
41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank you that you have heard me.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio makĩeheria ihiga. Jesũ agĩcooka agĩtiira maitho, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Baba, nĩndagũcookeria ngaatho nĩ ũndũ nĩũnjiguaga.
42 And I knew that you hear me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that you have sent me.
Nĩnjũũĩ atĩ nĩũnjiguaga hĩndĩ ciothe, no ndoiga ũguo nĩ ũndũ wa andũ aya marũgamĩte haha, nĩguo metĩkie atĩ nĩwe wandũmire.”
43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
Jesũ aarĩkia kuuga ũguo, akĩanĩrĩra na mũgambo mũnene, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Lazaro, uma!”
44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes: and his face was bound about with a cloth. Jesus says unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
Nake mũndũ ũcio warĩ mũkuũ akiuma, ohetwo na ndaamĩ cia gatani moko na magũrũ, na akarigiicĩrio taama ũthiũ. Jesũ akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Muohorei mataama macio ma mbĩrĩra, mũreke athiĩ.”
45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Ayahudi aingĩ arĩa mokĩte gũceerera Mariamu, moona ũrĩa Jesũ eekire, makĩmwĩtĩkia.
46 But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.
No amwe ao magĩthiĩ kũrĩ Afarisai, makĩmeera ũrĩa Jesũ ekĩte.
47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man does many miracles.
Hĩndĩ ĩyo athĩnjĩri-Ngai arĩa anene hamwe na Afarisai magĩĩta Kĩama. Makĩũrania atĩrĩ, “Nĩ kĩĩ tũreka? Onei ũrĩa mũndũ ũyũ araringa ciama nyingĩ.
48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
Twareka athiĩ na mbere ũguo, andũ othe nĩmekũmwĩtĩkia, nao Aroma moke meyoere hekarũ iitũ, o na rũrĩrĩ rwitũ.”
49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, All of you know nothing at all,
Hĩndĩ ĩyo ũmwe wao wetagwo Kaiafa, ũrĩa warĩ mũthĩnjĩri-Ngai mũnene mwaka ũcio, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Inyuĩ mũtirĩ ũndũ mũũĩ o na atĩa!
50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
Inyuĩ mũtiũĩ atĩ nĩ kaba mũndũ ũmwe akue nĩ ũndũ wa kĩrĩndĩ, handũ ha rũrĩrĩ ruothe rũthire.”
51 And this spoke he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
Ũndũ ũcio ndaaririe etaarĩte we mwene, no aarathire ũguo arĩ ta mũthĩnjĩri-Ngai mũnene wa mwaka ũcio, atĩ Jesũ nĩagakuĩra rũrĩrĩ rwa Ayahudi,
52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
na to rũrĩrĩ rũu rwiki, no o na ningĩ akue nĩ ũndũ wa ciana cia Ngai iria ciahurunjũkĩte, nĩgeetha acicookanĩrĩrie atũme ituĩke kĩndũ kĩmwe.
53 Then from that day forth they took counsel together in order to put him to death.
nĩ ũndũ ũcio kuuma mũthenya ũcio magĩciirĩra kũmũũraga.
54 Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Jesũ ndaacookire gũthiĩ akĩĩonithanagia kũrĩ Ayahudi. Handũ ha ũguo, akĩehera agĩthiĩ kũndũ kwarĩ hakuhĩ na werũ, gatũũra geetagwo Efiraimu, agĩikara kuo na arutwo ake.
55 And the Jews' passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.
Na rĩrĩa Bathaka ya Ayahudi yakuhĩrĩirie, andũ aingĩ makĩambata kuuma matũũra-inĩ, magĩthiĩ Jerusalemu nĩ ũndũ wa igongona rĩa gwĩtheria Bathaka ĩtanakinya.
56 Then sought they for Jesus, and spoke among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think all of you, that he will not come to the feast?
Andũ acio magĩikara magĩcaragia Jesũ, na rĩrĩa maarũngiĩ nja ya hekarũ, makĩũrania atĩrĩ, “Mũgwĩciiria atĩa? Kaĩ hihi ategũũka Gĩathĩ-inĩ?”
57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should show it, that they might take him.
No athĩnjĩri-Ngai arĩa anene na Afarisai nĩmarutĩte watho atĩ mũndũ o wothe ũngĩamenyire harĩa Jesũ aarĩ, amarehere ũhoro nĩgeetha mamũnyiite.
