Job 5
1 Call now, if there be any that will answer you; and to which of the saints will you turn?
Appelle donc! y aura-t-il quelqu'un qui te réponde? et auquel des Saints t'adresseras-tu?
2 For wrath kills the foolish man, and envy slays the silly one.
Non, le chagrin tue l'insensé, et le fou trouve la mort dans sa fureur.
3 I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.
J'ai vu l'insensé pousser des racines; mais soudain j'ai dû dire sa maison maudite:
4 His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.
ses enfants étaient loin de secours, on les foulait aux Portes, et point de sauveur!
5 Whose harvest the hungry eats up, and takes it even out of the thorns, and the robber swallows up their substance.
L'affamé mangea ses moissons, et jusqu'entre les haies alla les saisir, et des hommes altérés engloutirent ses biens.
6 Although affliction comes not out of the dust, neither does trouble spring out of the ground;
Car les maux ne sortent point de terre, et sur le sol le malheur ne croît pas;
7 Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.
mais l'homme est né pour le malheur, comme l'étincelle pour s'élever et voler.
8 I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:
Mais pour moi, je m'adresserais à Dieu, et j'exposerais ma cause au Seigneur.
9 Which does great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number:
Il fait des choses grandes, insondables, merveilleuses, innombrables;
10 Who gives rain upon the earth, and sends waters upon the fields:
Il répand la pluie sur la terre, et envoie ses eaux sur les campagnes;
11 To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.
Il place en haut lieu les hommes abaissés, et les affligés atteignent le salut;
12 He dissapoints the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.
Il rompt les complots des gens rusés, pour que leurs mains n'exécutent pas leurs plans;
13 He takes the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the perverse is carried headlong.
Il prend les habiles dans leurs ruses, et le projet des astucieux est déjoué;
14 They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope in the noonday as in the night.
de jour ils heurtent contre les ténèbres, et comme dans la nuit ils tâtonnent à midi.
15 But he saves the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.
Ainsi sauve-t-il de l'épée de leur bouche, et de la main du puissant, le misérable;
16 So the poor has hope, and iniquity stops her mouth.
et il y a pour le faible une espérance, et leur méchanceté a la bouche fermée.
17 Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects: therefore despise not you the chastening of the Almighty:
Voici, heureux l'homme que Dieu châtie!… Mais ne repousse pas la correction du Seigneur!
18 For he makes sore, and binds up: he wounds, and his hands make whole.
car Il blesse, et bande la plaie, Il brise, et ses mains guérissent:
19 He shall deliver you in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch you.
dans six détresses, Il est ton libérateur, et dans sept, le mal ne t'atteindra pas;
20 In famine he shall redeem you from death: and in war from the power of the sword.
durant la famine, Il te sauve de la mort, et durant la guerre, des coups de l'épée;
21 You shall be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shall you be afraid of destruction when it comes.
au fouet de la langue tu seras dérobé, tu n'auras point peur du désastre, s'il arrive;
22 At destruction and famine you shall laugh: neither shall you be afraid of the beasts of the earth.
tu te riras du désastre et de la famine, et tu ne redouteras point les bêtes de la terre;
23 For you shall be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you.
car tu as un pacte avec les pierres des champs, et les bêtes des champs sont en paix avec toi.
24 And you shall know that your tabernacle shall be in peace; and you shall visit your habitation, and shall not sin.
Alors tu éprouveras que ta tente n'est que paix, et en visitant ta demeure, tu ne seras point trompé,
25 You shall know also that your seed shall be great, and your offspring as the grass of the earth.
et tu éprouveras que ta race est nombreuse, et ta postérité comme l'herbe de la terre;
26 You shall come to your grave in a full age, like a shock of corn comes in in his season.
tu descendras au sépulcre dans une verte vieillesse, ainsi que s'élève le tas des gerbes, quand c'en est la saison.
27 Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know you it for your good.
Voilà ce que nous avons approfondi: il en est ainsi; entends-le, et fais-en ton profit.
