James 4
1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not behind, even of your lusts that war in your members?
Zivela ngaphi izimpi lokulwa phakathi kwenu? Kakuveli lapha yini, enkanukweni zenu ezilwayo ezithweni zenu?
2 All of you lust, and have not: all of you kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: all of you fight and war, yet all of you have not, because all of you ask not.
Liyafisa, kodwa kalilalutho; liyabulala njalo lilomhawu, kodwa lingeke lazuza; liyalwa futhi lenza impi, kodwa kalilalutho, ngoba kaliceli;
3 All of you ask, and receive not, because all of you ask amiss, that all of you may consume it upon your lusts.
liyacela njalo kalemukeli, ngoba licela kubi, ukuze likuchithele enkanukweni zenu.
4 All of you adulterers and adulteresses, know all of you not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Zifebe lezifebekazi, kalazi yini ukuthi uthando lomhlaba luyibutha kuNkulunkulu? Ngakho loba ngubani othanda ukuba ngumngane womhlaba, wenziwa isitha sikaNkulunkulu.
5 Do all of you think that the scripture says in vain, The spirit (pneuma) that dwells in us lusts to envy?
Kumbe licabanga yini ukuthi umbhalo utsho ize: Umoya ohlala kithi ufisela kumona?
6 But he gives more grace. Wherefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble.
Kodwa uyanika umusa omkhulu; ngakho uthi: UNkulunkulu umelana labazigqajayo, kodwa abathobekileyo uyabapha umusa.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Ngakho zehliseleni kuNkulunkulu, melanani lodiyabhola, njalo uzalibalekela.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, all of you sinners; and purify your hearts, all of you double minded.
Sondelani kuNkulunkulu, laye uzasondela kini; gezani izandla, zoni, njalo lihlanze izinhliziyo, lina banhliziyombili.
9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
Danani lilile likhale; ukuhleka kwenu kakuphendulwe ukulila, lentokozo ukudana.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Zithobeni phambi kweNkosi, njalo izaliphakamisa.
11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaks evil of his brother, and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law, and judges the law: but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.
Lingahlebani, bazalwane. Lowo ohleba umzalwane, amehlulele umzalwane wakhe, uhleba umlayo, ehlulele umlayo; kodwa uba usehlulela umlayo, kawusumenzi womlayo, kodwa umahluleli.
12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who are you that judge another?
Munye ummisumlayo, olamandla okusindisa lokubhubhisa; wena ungubani owahlulela omunye?
13 Go to now, all of you that say, To day or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
Minani-ke lina elithi: Lamuhla loba kusasa sizakuya emzini othile, sihlale khona umnyaka owodwa sithengiselane sizuze;
14 Whereas all of you know not what shall be on the next day. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.
elingakwaziyo okwakusasa. Ngoba iyini impilo yenu? Ngoba iyinkungu ebonakala okwesikhatshana, emva kwalokho ibisinyamalala;
15 For that all of you ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
endaweni yalokho ngabe lithi: Uba iNkosi ivuma, njalo sizaphila, sibe sesisenza lokhu kumbe lokhuyana.
16 But now all of you rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
Kodwa khathesi liyazincoma ekuzigqajeni kwenu; konke ukuzincoma okunje kubi.
17 Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.
Ngakho lowo okwaziyo ukwenza okuhle kodwa engakwenzi, kuyisono kuye.
