Isaiah 48
1 Hear all of you this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.
Entendez-le, maison de Jacob, vous qui prenez le nom d'Israël, et émanez de la source de Juda, qui jurez par le nom de l'Éternel et célébrez le Dieu d'Israël, mais non avec vérité ni avec droiture!
2 For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is his name.
(Car de la ville sainte ils prennent leur nom, et ils s'appuient sur le Dieu d'Israël, dont le nom est l'Éternel des armées.)
3 I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I showed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass.
Dès longtemps je fis les premières prédictions; elles sortirent de ma bouche et je les publiai: soudain j'agis, et elles s'accomplirent.
4 Because I knew that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew, and your brow brass;
Sachant que tu es endurci, et que ton col est une barre de fer, et que tu as un front d'airain,
5 I have even from the beginning declared it to you; before it came to pass I showed it you: lest you should say, Mine idol has done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, has commanded them.
je t'indiquai ces choses à l'avance, avant l'événement je te les annonçai, afin que tu ne disses pas: « Mon idole en est l'auteur, et l'effigie que j'ai sculptée, ou celle que j'ai fondue, leur a commandé d'être. »
6 You have heard, see all this; and will not all of you declare it? I have showed you new things from this time, even hidden things, and you did not know them.
Vous avez entendu… Tout s'accomplit, et vous, ne l'avouerez-vous pas? Dès ce moment je t'annonce des faits nouveaux et réservés, dont tu n'as pas eu connaissance:
7 They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when you heard them not; lest you should say, Behold, I knew them.
ils apparaissent maintenant et ne se virent pas jadis; plus tôt tu n'en ouïs pas parler, afin que tu ne dises pas: « Voici, j'en avais connaissance. »
8 Yea, you heard not; yea, you knew not; yea, from that time that your ear was not opened: for I knew that you would deal very treacherously, and were called a transgressor from the womb.
Tu n'en as rien entendu, ni rien su, et jadis ton oreille n'y fut pas ouverte; car je savais que tu es infidèle, et que Rebelle fut ton nom déjà dans le sein maternel.
9 For my name's sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for you, that I cut you not off.
Pour l'amour de mon nom je suspends ma vengeance, pour l'amour de ma gloire je me contiens envers toi, pour ne pas te détruire.
10 Behold, I have refined you, but not with silver; I have chosen you in the furnace of affliction.
Voici, je t'ai mis au creuset, mais je n'ai point obtenu d'argent; je t'ai éprouvé dans la fournaise du malheur.
11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.
C'est pour l'amour de moi-même, de moi-même, que j'ai agis: car, comment [mon nom] serait-il profané? et je ne céderai point ma gloire à un autre.
12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.
Écoute-moi, Jacob, et Israël que j'ai appelé: Je suis, moi, le premier, et aussi le dernier.
13 Mine hand also has laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand has spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.
Ma main de même a fondé la terre, et ma droite a déployé les Cieux: je les appelle, et ils se présentent ensemble.
14 All you, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them has declared these things? The LORD has loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans.
Vous tous, assemblez-vous et écoutez! Lequel d'entre eux a annoncé ces choses, [annoncé] celui que l'Éternel aime, qui exécutera sa volonté contre Babel, et sera son bras contre les Chaldéens?
15 I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.
Moi, moi, j'ai parlé et l'ai appelé, je l'ai amené, et il trouvera le succès sur sa route.
16 Come all of you near unto me, hear all of you this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, has sent me.
Approchez-vous de moi et écoutez: Dès l'origine je n'ai point parlé en secret, dès la naissance de ces événements j'y assiste. Et maintenant le Seigneur, l'Éternel, m'a envoyé avec son esprit.
17 Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD your God which teaches you to profit, which leads you by the way that you should go.
Ainsi parle l'Éternel, ton Rédempteur, le Saint d'Israël: Moi, l'Éternel, ton Dieu, je t'enseigne ce qui t'est profitable, je te guide dans la route où tu dois marcher.
18 O that you had hearkened to my commandments! then had your peace been as a river, and your righteousness as the waves of the sea:
Ah! si tu eusses pris garde à mes commandements! Alors ta paix serait comme le Fleuve, et ta justice comme les flots de la mer,
19 Your seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of your bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.
ta race serait comme ses sables, et les enfants de ton sang, comme ses graviers, ton nom ne serait ni retranché, ni anéanti devant moi.
20 Go all of you out of Babylon, flee all of you from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare all of you, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say all of you, The LORD has redeemed his servant Jacob.
Sortez de Babel! fuyez loin des Chaldéens! d'une voix d'allégresse annoncez, publiez-le, proclamez-le jusqu'au bout de la terre, dites: « L'Éternel a racheté son serviteur Jacob! »
21 And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he clave the rock also, and the waters gushed out.
Et ils ne seront point altérés dans le désert qu'ils ont à traverser; Il fera pour eux couler des eaux du rocher, Il fendra le rocher et les eaux jailliront.
22 There is no peace, says the LORD, unto the wicked.
Point de paix, dit l'Éternel, pour les impies.
