Hosea 4

1 Hear the word of the LORD, all of you children of Israel: for the LORD has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.

হে ইস্রায়েলীরা, তোমরা সদাপ্রভুর বাণী শোনো, কারণ তোমরা যারা দেশে বাস করো, সেই তোমাদের বিরুদ্ধে সদাপ্রভু একটি অভিযোগ আনতে চান: “দেশে কোনো বিশ্বস্ততা, কোনো ভালোবাসা নেই এবং ঈশ্বরকে কেউ স্বীকৃতি দেয় না।

2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood touches blood.

এদেশে আছে কেবলই অভিশাপ, মিথ্যাচার ও নরহত্যা, চুরি ও ব্যভিচার; এরা সমস্ত সীমা লঙ্ঘন করে, এবং রক্তপাতের উপরে রক্তপাত করে।

3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwells therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.

এই কারণে এ দেশ শোকবিলাপ করে, এবং সেখানে বসবাসকারী সকলে নষ্ট হয়ে যাচ্ছে; মাঠের পশুরা ও আকাশের সব পাখি এবং সমুদ্রের সব মাছ মরে যাচ্ছে।

4 Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for your people are as they that strive with the priest.

“কিন্তু কোনো মানুষ যেন কোনো অভিযোগ না করে, কেননা মানুষ যেন পরস্পরের বিরুদ্ধে দোষারোপ না করে, কারণ তোমার প্রজারা তাদেরই মতো, যারা যাজকের বিরুদ্ধে অভিযোগ করে।

5 Therefore shall you fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with you in the night, and I will destroy your mother.

তোমরা দিনে ও রাতে হোঁচট খাও, আর ভাববাদীরাও তোমাদের সঙ্গে হোঁচট খায়। সুতরাং আমি তোমাদের জননীকে ধ্বংস করব,

6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you shall be no priest to me: seeing you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children.

আমার প্রজারা জ্ঞানের অভাবে ধ্বংস হয়। “যেহেতু তোমরা জ্ঞান অগ্রাহ্য করেছ, ফলে আমিও আমার যাজকরূপে তোমাদের অগ্রাহ্য করছি; যেহেতু তোমরা তোমাদের ঈশ্বরের বিধান অবজ্ঞা করেছ, ফলে আমিও তোমাদের ছেলেমেয়েদের অবজ্ঞা করব।

7 As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.

যাজকেরা যত সমৃদ্ধ হয়েছে, তারা ততই আমার বিরুদ্ধে পাপ করেছে; তারা ঐশ গৌরবের বিনিময়ে গ্রহণ করেছে কলঙ্ককে।

8 They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.

তারা আমার প্রজাদের পাপে নিজেদের পুষ্ট করে এবং তাদের দুষ্টতাকে উপভোগ করে।

9 And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.

আর এরকমই হবে: যেমন প্রজা, তেমনই যাজকেরা। আমি উভয়কেই তাদের জীবনাচরণের জন্য শাস্তি দেব, এবং তাদের সব কাজের প্রতিফল দেব।

10 For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD.

“তারা ভোজন করবে, কিন্তু তৃপ্ত হবে না, তারা বেশ্যাবৃত্তিতে লিপ্ত হবে, কিন্তু বহুবংশ হবে না, কারণ তারা সদাপ্রভুকে ত্যাগ করেছে নিজেদেরকে দিতে

11 Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.

বেশ্যাবৃত্তিতে; সুরা ও নতুন দ্রাক্ষারসে মত্ত হওয়ার জন্য, যেগুলি আমার প্রজাদের বুদ্ধি-বিবেচনা হরণ করে।

12 My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declares unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms has caused them to go astray, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.

আমার লোকেরা কাঠের প্রতিমার কাছে পরামর্শ খোঁজে, এবং কাঠের তৈরি একটি লাঠি তাদের উত্তর দেয়। বেশ্যাবৃত্তির মানসিকতা তাদের ধ্বংসের পথে চালিত করে; তাদের ঈশ্বরের কাছে তারা অবিশ্বস্ত হয়েছে।

13 They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery.

তারা পর্বতশীর্ষের উপরে বলিদান করে এবং বিভিন্ন পাহাড়ে হোমবলি উৎসর্গ করে, ওক, ঝাউ ও তার্পিন গাছের তলে যেখানে ছায়া বেশ মনোরম। সেই কারণে, তোমাদের কন্যারা বেশ্যাবৃত্তিতে ও তোমাদের পুত্রবধূরা ব্যভিচারে লিপ্ত হয়।

14 I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that does not understand shall fall.

“তোমাদের কন্যারা বেশ্যাবৃত্তি গ্রহণ করলে, বা তোমাদের পুত্রবধূরা ব্যভিচারে লিপ্ত হলে, আমি তাদের শাস্তি দেব না, কারণ পুরুষেরা স্বেচ্ছায় দেবদাসদের সঙ্গে গোপন স্থানে যায় ও দেবদাসীদের সঙ্গে নৈবেদ্য উৎসর্গ করে, এই নির্বোধ জাতি ধ্বংস হয়ে যাবে!

15 Though you, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not all of you unto Gilgal, neither go all of you up to Bethaven, nor swear, The LORD lives.

“হে ইস্রায়েল, তুমি ব্যভিচার করলেও, যিহূদা যেন অপরাধী সাব্যস্ত না হয়। “তোমরা গিল্‌গলে পদার্পণ কোরো না, বেথ-আবনে উঠে যেয়ো না। এবং ‘জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি,’ বলে শপথ কোরো না।

16 For Israel slides back as a backsliding heifer: now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large place.

একগুঁয়ে বকনা-বাছুরের মতোই ইস্রায়েলীরা অনমনীয়। সুতরাং সদাপ্রভু কীভাবে তাদের মেষশাবকদের মতো চারণভূমিতে চরাবেন?

17 Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.

ইফ্রয়িম প্রতিমা সমূহে আসক্ত হয়েছে; তাকে একা ছেড়ে দাও!

18 Their drink is sour: they have committed whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do love, Give all of you.

এমনকি, যখন তাদের মদ্যপান সমাপ্ত হয়, তখনও তারা ব্যভিচার করে চলে; তাদের শাসকেরা লজ্জাকর জীবনাচরণ ভীষণ ভালোবাসে।

19 The wind has bound her up in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.

এক ঘূর্ণিবায়ু তাদের উড়িয়ে নিয়ে যাবে, এবং তাদের নৈবেদ্যগুলি তাদের জন্য বয়ে আনবে লজ্জা।
