Ecclesiastes 11
1 Cast your bread upon the waters: for you shall find it after many days.
Dein Brotkorn sende übers Wasser, damit du es nach vielen Tagen wieder findest!
2 Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for you know not what evil shall be upon the earth.
Zerleg' es sieben- oder achtmal! Du weißt ja nicht, was für ein Unglück übers Land noch kommt.
3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall be.
Wenn Wolken sich mit Regen füllen, so gießen sie ihn auf die Erde. Doch fällt ein Baum im Süden oder Norden, dort an dem Ort, wohin der Baum auch fällt, da bleibt er liegen. -
4 He that observes the wind shall not sow; and he that regards the clouds shall not reap.
Wer auf den Wind achtgibt, der kommt niemals zum Säen. Wer nach den Wolken schaut, der erntet nicht.
5 As you know not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so you know not the works of God who makes all.
Wie du nicht weißt, auf welche Weise Lebensgeist im Leib der Mutter in den Körper kommt, so kennst du auch der Gottheit Walten nicht, das alles macht. -
6 In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening withhold not your hand: for you know not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.
Am Morgen säe deinen Samen! Laß ruhen deine Hand nicht bis zum Abend! Du weißt nicht, was gedeiht, ob dies, ob das, ob beiderlei gleich gut gerät.
7 Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:
Das Licht ist süß. Den Augen tut es wohl, das Sonnenlicht zu schauen.
8 But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that comes is vanity.
Doch wenn der Mensch auch viele Jahre lebt und sich an ihnen insgesamt ergötzt, so soll er wohl bedenken, daß viele Tage sind in Finsternis! Auch das Vergangene ist eitel. -
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth; and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes: but know you, that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
Freu dich an deiner Jugend, Jüngling! Dein Herz erlabe sich in deinen Jünglingstagen! Wohin dein Herz dich lockt und dich dein Auge ladet, geh nur froh! Doch wisse wohl, daß dich nach alledem die Gottheit ins Gericht wird ziehen!
10 Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.
Verscheuche Gram vom Herzen! Und Leiden halt vom Leibe dir! Denn Jugendzeit und schwarzes Haar sind eitel.
