Deuteronomy 2

1 Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the LORD spoke unto me: and we compassed mount Seir many days.

পরে সদাপ্রভু যেমন নির্দেশ দিয়েছিলেন সেইভাবে আমরা পিছন ফিরে সূফসাগরের পথ ধরে মরুএলাকার দিকে রওনা হয়েছিলাম। সেয়ীরের পাহাড়ি এলাকা ঘুরে যেতে আমাদের অনেক দিন কেটে গেল।

2 And the LORD spoke unto me, saying,

তারপর সদাপ্রভু আমাকে বললেন,

3 All of you have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.

“তোমরা পাহাড়ি এলাকায় অনেক দিন ধরে ঘুরছ; এখন উত্তর দিকে ফের।

4 And command you the people, saying, All of you are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take all of you good heed unto yourselves therefore:

লোকদের এই আদেশ করো: ‘সেয়ীরে বসবাসকারী এষৌর বংশধর তোমাদের আত্মীয়দের রাজ্যের মধ্যে দিয়ে এখন তোমাদের যেতে হবে। তোমাদের দেখে তারা ভয় পাবে কিন্তু তোমরা খুব সাবধানে থেকো।

5 Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession.

তাদের যুদ্ধের উসকানি দেবে না, কারণ তাদের দেশের কোনও অংশই আমি তোমাদের দেব না, এমনকি পা রাখার জায়গা পর্যন্ত দেব না। আমি সেয়ীরের এই পাহাড়ি এলাকা এষৌকে তার নিজের দেশ হিসেবে দিয়েছি।

6 All of you shall buy food of them for money, that all of you may eat; and all of you shall also buy water of them for money, that all of you may drink.

তাদের কাছ থেকে খাবার ও জল তোমাদের রুপো দিয়ে কিনে খেতে হবে।’”

7 For the LORD your God has blessed you in all the works of your hand: he knows your walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.

তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু সবকাজেই তোমাদের আশীর্বাদ করেছেন। এই বিশাল মরুএলাকার মধ্যে দিয়ে যাওয়ার সময় তিনি তোমাদের দেখাশোনা করেছেন। এই চল্লিশ বছর তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু তোমাদের সঙ্গেই থেকেছেন, এবং তোমাদের কোনও অভাব হয়নি।

8 And when we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath, and from Eziongaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.

অতএব আমরা সেয়ীরে বসবাসকারী এষৌর বংশধর আমাদের আত্মীয়দের রাজ্যের মধ্যে দিয়ে গেলাম। আমরা অরাবার যে পথটি এলৎ ও ইৎসিয়োন-গেবর থেকে বের হয়ে এসেছে সেই পথ ছেড়ে মোয়াবের মরুএলাকার পথে গেলাম।

9 And the LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle: for I will not give you of their land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession.

তারপর সদাপ্রভু আমাকে বললেন, “মোয়াবীয়দের তোমরা বিরক্ত কোরো না কিংবা তাদের যুদ্ধের উসকানি দিয়ো না, কারণ তাদের দেশের কোনও অংশই আমি তোমাদের দেব না। আমি সম্পত্তি হিসেবে আর্ অঞ্চলটি লোটের বংশধরদের দিয়েছি।”

10 The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims;

(এমীয়েরা—আগে সেখানে থাকত তারা শক্তিশালী ও অসংখ্য ছিল, এবং অনাকীয়দের মতো লম্বা।

11 Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites called them Emims.

অনাকীয়দের মতো এমীয়দেরও রফায়ীয় বলা হত, কিন্তু মোয়াবীয়রা তাদের বলত এমীয়।

12 The Horims also dwelt in Seir in time past; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their position; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.

হোরীয়েরাও সেয়ীরে বসবাস করত, কিন্তু এষৌর বংশধরেরা তাদের সেখান থেকে তাড়িয়ে দিয়েছিল। তারা হোরীয়দের তাদের সামনেই ধ্বংস করে, তাদের অধিকারে থাকা জায়গায় বসবাস করতে লাগল, যেমন ইস্রায়েলীরা সদাপ্রভুর দেওয়া জায়গায় করেছিল।)

13 Now rise up, said I, and get you over the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered.

আর সদাপ্রভু বললেন, “এখন তোমরা উঠে সেরদ উপত্যকা পার হয়ে যাও।” সুতরাং আমরা উপত্যকা পার হলাম।

14 And the space in which we came from Kadeshbarnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the LORD swore unto them.

কাদেশ-বর্ণেয় ছেড়ে সেরদ উপত্যকা পার হয়ে আসতে আমাদের আটত্রিশ বছর কেটে গিয়েছিল। তার মধ্যে, তাঁবুতে যেসব সৈন্য ছিল তারা সবাই ধ্বংস হয়ে গিয়েছিল, যেমন সদাপ্রভু তাদের কাছে শপথ করেছিলেন।

15 For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed.

তাঁবু থেকে তাদের সম্পূর্ণরূপে উচ্ছেদ না করা পর্যন্ত সদাপ্রভুর হাত তাদের বিরুদ্ধে ছিল।

16 So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,

লোকদের মধ্য থেকে সেই সমস্ত সৈন্য মারা যাবার পর,

17 That the LORD spoke unto me, saying,

সদাপ্রভু আমাকে বললেন,

18 You are to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moab, this day:

“আজ তোমরা মোয়াবের এলাকা আর্ পার হয়ে যাবে।

19 And when you come nigh opposite to the children of Ammon, distress them not, nor meddle with them: for I will not give you of the land of the children of Ammon any possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession.

তোমরা যখন অম্মোনীয়দের মধ্যে আসবে, তোমরা তাদের বিরক্ত কোরো না কিংবা তাদের যুদ্ধের উসকানি দিয়ো না, কারণ মোয়াবীয়দের দেশের কোনও অংশই তোমাদের দেব না। লোটের বংশধরদের আমি সেটি সম্পত্তি হিসেবে দিয়ে রেখেছি।”

20 (That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims;

(সেই দেশও রফায়ীয়দের দেশ বলে মনে করা হত, কারণ সেখানে তারা আগে বসবাস করত; কিন্তু অম্মোনীয়েরা তাদের সম্‌সুম্মীয় জাতির লোক বলত।

21 A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their position:

তারা শক্তিশালী ও অসংখ্য ছিল, এবং অনাকীয়দের মতো লম্বা। সদাপ্রভু তাদের অম্মোনীয়দের আগে ধ্বংস করেছিলেন, যারা তাদের তাড়িয়ে দিয়ে সেই জায়গায় বসবাস করছিল।

22 As he did to the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their position even unto this day:

সদাপ্রভু এষৌয়ের বংশধরদের প্রতিও সেইরকম করেছিলেন, যারা সেয়ীরে বসবাস করত, যখন তিনি হোরীয়দের তাদের আগে ধ্বংস করেছিলেন।

23 And the Avims which dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Azzah, the Caphtorims, which came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their position.)

আর অব্বীয়েরা যারা গাজা পর্যন্ত সমস্ত গ্রামে বসবাস করত, তাদের কপ্তোর থেকে আসা কপ্তোরীয়েরা ধ্বংস করে তাদের জায়গায় বসবাস করছিল।)

24 Rise all of you up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.

“তোমরা বের হয়ে পড়ো এবং অর্ণোন উপত্যকা পার হও, আমি হিষ্‌বোনের রাজা ইমোরীয় সীহোনকে ও তার দেশ তোমাদের হাতে দিয়ে দিয়েছি। তোমরা দেশটি দখল করতে শুরু করে তাকে যুদ্ধে নামতে বাধ্য করো।

25 This day will I begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of you, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of you.

আজ থেকে আমি পৃথিবীর সমস্ত জাতির মধ্যে তোমাদের সম্বন্ধে একটি ভয়ের ভাব ও কাঁপুনি ধরাতে শুরু করব। তারা তোমাদের কথা শুনলে কাঁপতে থাকবে এবং তোমাদের দরুন তাদের মনে ভীষণ দুশ্চিন্তা জাগবে।”

26 And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,

এরপর আমি কদেমোৎ মরুএলাকা থেকে হিষ্‌বোনের রাজা সীহোনের কাছে শান্তি বজায় রাখার জন্য দূত পাঠালাম এই বলে,

27 Let me pass through your land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.

আপনাদের দেশের মধ্যে দিয়ে আমাদের যেতে দিন। আমরা প্রধান রাস্তাতেই থাকব; আমরা ডানদিকে কিংবা বাদিকে যাব না।

28 You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet;

আপনাদের খাবার ও জল রুপোর মূল্য দিয়ে আমাদের কাছে বিক্রি করুন। আমাদের কেবল পায়ে হেঁটে পার হতে দিন,

29 (As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me; ) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the LORD our God gives us.

যেমন সেয়ীরে বসবাসকারী এষৌর বংশধরেরা এবং আর্-এ মোয়াবীয়েরা আমাদের প্রতি করেছিল—যতক্ষণ না আমরা জর্ডন পার হয়ে সেই দেশে যাই যে দেশ আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু আমাদের দিচ্ছেন।

30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD your God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as appears this day.

হিষ্‌বোনের রাজা সীহোন কিন্তু আমাদের যেতে দিতে রাজি হলেন না। কারণ তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু তাঁর মন কঠিন ও তাঁর হৃদয় শক্ত করেছিলেন যেন তোমাদের হাতে তাঁকে সমর্পণ করেন, যেমন তিনি এখন করেছেন।

31 And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before you: begin to possess, that you may inherit his land.

সদাপ্রভু আমাকে বললেন, “দেখো, আমি সীহোন ও তাঁর দেশ তোমার হাতে তুলে দিতে আরম্ভ করেছি। এখন তাঁর দেশ জয় করে অধিকার করতে শুরু করো।”

32 Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz.

সীহোন যখন তাঁর সমস্ত সৈন্য নিয়ে আমাদের সঙ্গে যহসে যুদ্ধ করার জন্য বের হয়ে এলেন,

33 And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we stroke him, and his sons, and all his people.

আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু তাঁকে আমাদের হাতে সমর্পণ করলেন এবং আমরা তাঁকে, তাঁর ছেলেদের এবং তাঁর সমগ্র সৈন্যবাহিনীকে আঘাত করলাম।

34 And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:

সেই সময় আমরা তাদের সমস্ত নগর অধিকার করে সম্পূর্ণরূপে ধ্বংস করলাম—পুরুষ, মহিলা ও শিশুদের। আমরা কাউকে জীবিত রাখিনি।

35 Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took.

কিন্তু পশুপাল এবং নগর থেকে লুট করা জিনিসপত্র আমরা নিজেদের জন্য নিয়ে এলাম।

36 From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us:

অর্ণোন উপত্যকার সীমানায় অরোয়ের নগর এবং সেই উপত্যকার মধ্যবর্তী নগর থেকে গিলিয়দ পর্যন্ত, কোনও নগরই আমাদের কাছে শক্তিশালী ছিল না। আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু সবগুলিই আমাদের দিলেন।

37 Only unto the land of the children of Ammon you came not, nor unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto whatsoever the LORD our God forbad us.

কিন্তু আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর আদেশ অনুসারে, আমরা অম্মোনীয়দের কোনো জায়গা, এমনকি যব্বোকের সীমানার জায়গা ও পাহাড়ের পাশের নগরগুলি বলপূর্বক দখল করিনি।
