< Acts 22 >

1 Men, brethren, and fathers, hear all of you my defence which I make now unto you.
“Yaa obbolootaa fi abbootii, falmata ani amma isin duratti dhiʼeeffadhu kana mee naa dhagaʼaa.”
2 (And when they heard that he spoke in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he says, )
Jarris yommuu isaa afaan Ibraayisxiitiin isaanitti dubbatu dhagaʼanitti kan duraa illee caalaa calʼisan. Phaawulosis akkana jedhe;
3 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as all of you all are this day.
“Ani Yihuudii dha; magaalaa Xarsees ishee biyya Kiilqiyaa keessaa sanattin dhaladhe; garuu Yerusaalemittin guddadhe. Miilla Gamaaliyaal jalattis seera Abbootii keenyaa akka gaariitti baradhee, akkuma isin hundi harʼa hinaaftan kana anis Waaqaaf nan hinaafa ture.
4 And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.
Dhiiraa fi dubartii qabee, mana hidhaa keessa isaan buusuudhaan duuka buutota karaa kanaa hamma duʼaatti ariʼadheera;
5 As also the high priest does bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, in order to be punished.
waan kanas lubni ol aanaanii fi waldaan jaarsolii guutuun ragaa naa baʼu. Anis xalayoota isaan gara obboloota warra Damaasqoo jiraniitti barreessan fudhadheen akka namoonni kunneen adabamaniif hidhee Yerusaalemitti isaan fiduuf achi nan dhaqe.
6 And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.
“Gara saafaatti, akkuma ani Damaasqootti dhiʼaadheen ifni guddaan isaa akkuma tasaa samii irraa naannoo kootti balaqqise.
7 And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecute you me?
Anis lafatti kufeen sagalee, ‘Yaa Saaʼol! Yaa Saaʼol! Ati maaliif na ariʼatta?’ naan jedhu tokkon dhagaʼe.
8 And I answered, Who are you, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you persecute.
“Anis, ‘Yaa Gooftaa ati eenyu?’ jedheen gaafadhe. “Inni immoo deebisee, ‘Ani Yesuus nama Naazreeti isa ati ariʼattuu dha’ naan jedhe.
9 And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spoke to me.
Warri na wajjin turanis ifa sana argan malee sagalee isa natti dubbachaa ture sanaa hin hubanne.
10 And I said, What shall I do, LORD? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told you of all things which are appointed for you to do.
“Anis, ‘Yaa Gooftaa, ani maal godhu ree?’ jedhee gaafadhe. “Gooftaanis, ‘Kaʼii Damaasqoo seeni. Wanni akka ati hojjettuuf siif kaaʼame hundinuu achitti sitti himamaatii’ naan jedhe.
11 And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.
Anis sababii calaqqisa ifa sanaatiif homaa arguu dadhabnaan, warri na wajjin turan harka qabanii Damaasqootti na geessan.
12 And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,
“Namichi Anaaniyaas jedhamu kan sirriitti seera eegu tokko Yihuudoota achi jiraatan hunda biratti maqaa gaarii qaba ture.
13 Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive your sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.
Innis gara koo dhufee na bira dhaabatee, ‘Yaa obboleessa koo Saaʼol, agartuun kee siif haa deebiʼu!’ naan jedhe; agartuun koos yeruma sana naa deebiʼe. Anis isa arguu dandaʼe.
14 And he said, The God of our fathers has chosen you, that you should know his will, and see that Just One, and should hear the voice of his mouth.
“Innis akkana jedhe; ‘Waaqni abbootii keenyaa akka ati fedhii isaa beektu, akka ati Isa Qajeelaa sana argituu fi akka afaan isaa irraa dubbii dhageessuuf si filateera.
15 For you shall be his witness unto all men of what you have seen and heard.
Atis waan argitee fi waan dhageesse sana fuula nama hundumaa duratti isaaf dhugaa ni baata.
16 And now why tarry you? arise, and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
Egaa amma maal eegda ree? Kaʼii maqaa isaa waammachaa cuuphamiitii cubbuu kee of irraa dhiqi.’
17 And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance;
“Anis Yerusaalemitti deebiʼee utuu mana qulqullummaa keessatti kadhannaatti jiruu akka waan of wallaaluu nan taʼe.
18 And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get you quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive your testimony concerning me.
Gooftaa illee isaa, ‘Jarri kun waan ati waaʼee koo dhugaa baatu hin fudhataniitii dafii ammuma Yerusaalem keessaa baʼi!’ jedhee natti dubbatu nan arge.
19 And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on you:
“Anis deebiseen akkana jedhe; ‘Yaa Gooftaa jarri kun akka ani warra sitti amanan hidhuu fi tumuuf jedhee mana sagadaa tokko irraa gara isa biraatti darbaa ture beeku.
20 And when the blood of your martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.
Yeroo dhiigni dhuga baatuu keetii, dhiigni Isxifaanos dhangalaafamettis ani ajjeefamuu isaatti namootaan walii galee achi dhaabadheen uffata warra isa ajjeesanii eegaa ture.’
21 And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send you far behind unto the Gentiles.
“Gooftaanis, ‘Ani fagootti, gara Namoota Ormaatti sin ergaatii deemi’ naan jedhe.”
22 And they gave him audience unto this word, (logos) and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.
Namoonni sunis hamma inni dubbii kana dubbatutti isa dhagaʼaa turan; ergasiis sagalee isaanii ol fudhatanii, “Namni akkanaa jiraachuu hin qabuutii lafa irraa balleessaa!” jedhanii iyyan.
23 And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the air,
Utuu isaan uffata isaanii dadarbatanii, awwaaras qilleensa keessa bibittinneessanii iyyanuu,
24 The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him.

25 And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?
Phaawulos immoo yommuu isaan isa garafuuf jedhanii teephaan isa hidhanitti ajajaa dhibbaa kan isa bira dhaabachaa tureen, “Lammii Roomaa tokko murtii malee garafuun isiniif ni eeyyamamaa?” jedhe.
26 When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what you do: for this man is a Roman.
Ajajaan dhibbaa sunis yommuu waan kana dhagaʼetti gara ajajaa kumaa sanaa dhaqee, “Namichi kunoo lammii Roomaatii ati maal gochuu yaadda?” jedheen.
27 Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, are you a Roman? He said, Yea.

28 And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born.
Ajajaan kumaa sunis, “Ani lammummaa kana argachuudhaaf gatii guddaa baase” jedhe. Phaawulos immoo deebisee, “Ani garuu ittin dhaladhe” jedhe.
29 Then immediately they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.
Warri isa qoruuf yaadanis yommusuma isa irraa deebiʼan; ajajaan kumaa sunis yommuu akka Phaawulos lammii Roomaa taʼee fi akka ofii isaatii immoo Phaawulosin foncaan hidhe hubatetti ni rifate.
30 On the next day, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.
Ajajaan kumaa sun sababii Yihuudoonni Phaawulosin himataniif sirriitti beekuu fedhee guyyaa itti aanu isa hiikee akka luboonni hangafoonnii fi waldaan Yihuudootaa hundi walitti qabaman ajaje. Ergasii immoo Phaawulosin fidee akka inni fuula isaanii duratti dhiʼaatu godhe.
