Acts 20
1 And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and departed in order to go into Macedonia.
Lorsque le tumulte eut cessé, Paul réunit les disciples; et, après leur avoir fait entendre ses exhortations, il prit congé d'eux et partit pour la Macédoine.
2 And when he had gone over those parts, and had given them much exhortation, (logos) he came into Greece,
Il parcourut cette contrée, et il adressa des exhortations nombreuses aux fidèles; puis, il vint en Grèce,
3 And there abode three months. And when the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia.
et il y demeura trois mois. Les Juifs ayant dressé contre lui des embûches, au moment où il allait s'embarquer pour la Syrie, il se décida à retourner par la Macédoine.
4 And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.
Sopater, fils de Pyrrhus, de Bérée, l'accompagnait, ainsi qu'Aristarque et Secundus, de Thessalonique, Gaïus, de Derbe, et Timothée, Tychique et Trophime, originaires d'Asie.
5 These going before tarried for us at Troas.
Ceux-ci prirent les devants et nous attendirent à Troas.
6 And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days.
Quant à nous, après les jours des pains sans levain, nous nous embarquâmes à Philippes, et en cinq jours nous les rejoignîmes à Troas, où nous demeurâmes sept jours.
7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the next day; and continued his speech (logos) until midnight.
Le premier jour de la semaine, comme nous étions réunis pour rompre le pain, Paul, devant partir le lendemain, s'entretint avec les disciples et prolongea son discours jusqu'à minuit.
8 And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together.
Il y avait beaucoup de lampes, dans la chambre haute où nous étions réunis.
9 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third upper room, and was taken up dead.
Un jeune homme, nommé Eutyche, assis sur la fenêtre, s'endormit profondément pendant le long discours de Paul; et, accablé par le sommeil, il tomba du troisième étage et fut relevé mort.
10 And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.
Mais Paul, étant descendu, se pencha sur lui, et, l'ayant pris dans ses bras, il dit: Ne vous troublez point; car son âme est encore en lui!
11 When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed.
Après être remonté, il rompit le pain et mangea; et après avoir parlé longtemps, jusqu'au point du jour, il partit.
12 And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.
Quant au jeune homme, on le ramena vivant, ce qui fut pour tous une grande consolation.
13 And we went on board ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, minding himself to go on foot.
Pour nous, ayant pris les devants, nous fîmes voile vers Assos, où nous devions rejoindre Paul; il l'avait ainsi décidé, parce qu'il voulait faire le chemin à pied.
14 And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene.
Quand il nous eut rejoints à Assos, nous le prîmes avec nous, et nous vînmes à Mitylène.
15 And we sailed thence, and came the next day opposite to Chios; and the next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium; and the next day we came to Miletus.
Puis, étant partis de là, toujours par mer, nous arrivions le lendemain vis-à-vis de Chio. Le jour suivant, nous touchions à Samos, et, le jour d'après, nous étions à Milet.
16 For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.
Paul, en effet, avait résolu de passer devant Éphèse sans s'y arrêter, pour ne pas perdre de temps en Asie. Il se hâtait, pour être à Jérusalem, si possible, le jour de la Pentecôte.
17 And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church.
Cependant, de Milet, Paul envoya des messagers à Éphèse pour convoquer les anciens de l'Eglise.
18 And when they were come to him, he said unto them, All of you know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons,
Lorsqu'ils furent réunis auprès de lui, il leur dit: Vous savez de quelle manière je me suis toujours conduit avec vous, depuis le premier jour de mon arrivée en Asie,
19 Serving the LORD with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:
servant le Seigneur en toute humilité, dans les larmes, et au milieu des épreuves auxquelles m'exposaient les embûches des Juifs.
20 And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have showed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house,
Vous savez que je n'ai pas négligé de vous annoncer tout ce qui vous était utile, sans vous en rien cacher, que je vous ai instruits en public et de maison en maison,
21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
prêchant aux Juifs comme aux Grecs la repentance envers Dieu et la foi en notre Seigneur Jésus.
22 And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit (pneuma) unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there:
Maintenant, voici que, lié par l'Esprit, je vais à Jérusalem, sans savoir ce qui doit m'y arriver;
23 Save that the Holy Spirit (pneuma) witnesses in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.
seulement, le Saint-Esprit m'avertit de ville en ville que des chaînes et des afflictions m'attendent.
24 But none of these things (logos) move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
Mais je n'attache pour moi-même aucun prix à ma vie, pourvu que j'achève ma course et le ministère que j'ai reçu du Seigneur Jésus, en rendant, témoignage à l'Évangile de la grâce de Dieu.
25 And now, behold, I know that all of you all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.
Oui, je le sais, vous ne verrez plus mon visage, ô vous tous, parmi lesquels j'ai passé en prêchant le Royaume!
26 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.
C'est pourquoi, je proteste aujourd'hui devant vous que je suis net du sang de vous tous.
27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
Car je n'ai rien négligé pour vous faire connaître tout le dessein de Dieu.
28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Spirit (pneuma) has made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he has purchased with his own blood.
Prenez garde à vous-mêmes, et à tout le troupeau au milieu duquel le Saint-Esprit vous a établis évêques, pour paître l'Église de Dieu qu'il s'est acquise par son propre sang.
29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
Pour moi, je sais qu'après mon départ, il s'introduira parmi vous des loups cruels, qui n'épargneront point le troupeau;
30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
et même du milieu de vous, il se lèvera des hommes au langage pervers, qui s'efforceront d'entraîner les disciples à leur suite.
31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.
Veillez donc, vous souvenant que, durant trois ans, je n'ai cessé, nuit et jour, d'avertir chacun avec larmes.
32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word (logos) of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
Et maintenant, je vous recommande à Dieu et à la parole de sa grâce, à lui qui peut vous édifier et vous donner votre part d'héritage, avec tous ceux qui sont sanctifiés.
33 I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel.
Je n'ai désiré ni l'argent, ni l'or, ni le vêtement de personne.
34 Yea, all of you yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.
Vous le savez vous-mêmes, les mains que voilà ont pourvu à mes besoins et à ceux de mes compagnons.
35 I have showed you all things, how that so labouring all of you ought to support the weak, and to remember the words (logos) of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
Je vous ai toujours montré que c'est en travaillant ainsi, qu'il faut venir en aide aux faibles, et se souvenir des paroles du Seigneur Jésus, qui a dit lui-même: «Il y a plus de bonheur à donner qu'à recevoir!»
36 And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.
Quand il eut dit cela, il se mit à genoux, et pria avec eux tous.
37 And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him,
Ils fondirent tous en larmes; et, se jetant au cou de Paul,
38 Sorrowing most of all for the words (logos) which he spoke, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.
ils l'embrassaient tendrement, étant surtout affligés de ce qu'il avait dit qu'ils ne verraient plus son visage. Puis, ils l'accompagnèrent jusqu'au navire.
