1 Samuel 14
1 Now it came to pass on a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over to the Philistines' garrison, that is on the other side. But he told not his father.
Un día dijo Jonatán, hijo de Saúl, a su joven escudero: “Anda, pasémonos al pueblo de los filisteos, que está allí del otro lado”; pero no dijo nada a su padre.
2 And Saul tarried in the uttermost part of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree which is in Migron: and the people that were with him were about six hundred men;
Saúl se encontraba en la extremidad de Gabaá, debajo del granado de Migrón; y la gente que tenía consigo eran unos seiscientos hombres.
3 And Ahiah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the LORD's priest in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone.
Aquías, hijo de Aquitob, hermano de Icabod, hijo de Fineés, hijo de Helí, sacerdote de Yahvé en Silo, vestía el efod. Aquella gente no sabía que Jonatán se había ido.
4 And between the passages, by which Jonathan sought to go over unto the Philistines' garrison, there was a sharp rock on the one side, and a sharp rock on the other side: and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.
Entre los caminos por donde Jonatán intentaba pasar al puesto de los filisteos, había una roca puntiaguda de este lado, y otra del lado opuesto, siendo el nombre de la primera Boses, y el nombre de la segunda Sene.
5 The forefront of the one was situated northward opposite to Michmash, and the other southward opposite to Gibeah.
Una de las rocas se alzaba por la parte norte, frente a Micmás, y la otra por la parte sur, frente a Gabaá.
6 And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.
Dijo Jonatán a su escudero: “Ven, pasemos al puesto de esos incircuncisos, quizá obrará Yahvé por nosotros; porque a Yahvé nada le impide salvar con mucha o con poca gente.”
7 And his armour bearer said unto him, Do all that is in your heart: turn you; behold, I am with you according to your heart.
Le contestó su escudero: “Haz todo lo que te gustare, y vete a donde quieras. He aquí que yo estoy contigo, a tu disposición.”
8 Then said Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over unto these men, and we will discover ourselves unto them.
Dijo entonces Jonatán: “Mira, vamos a pasar hacia aquellos hombres y nos mostraremos a ellos.
9 If they say thus unto us, Tarry until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up unto them.
Si nos dicen: «Quedaos quietos hasta que lleguemos a vosotros», nos quedaremos en nuestro lugar y no subiremos hasta ellos.
10 But if they say thus, Come up unto us; then we will go up: for the LORD has delivered them into our hand: and this shall be a sign unto us.
Pero si dicen: «Subid hacia nosotros», subiremos; porque Yahvé los ha entregado en nuestras manos. Esto nos servirá de señal.”
11 And both of them discovered themselves unto the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves.
Se mostraron los dos al puesto de los filisteos. Y dijeron los filisteos: “Mirad cómo los hebreos salen de las cavernas donde se habían escondido.”
12 And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armour bearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will show you a thing. And Jonathan said unto his armour bearer, Come up after me: for the LORD has delivered them into the hand of Israel.
Y dirigiéndose los hombres del puesto a Jonatán y a su escudero, dijeron: “Subid hacia nosotros y os daremos una lección.” Dijo entonces Jonatán a su escudero: “Sube en pos de mí, porque Yahvé los ha entregado en manos de Israel.”
13 And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armour bearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armour bearer slew after him.
Y subió Jonatán, trepando con manos y pies, seguido de su escudero; y (los filisteos) cayeron delante de Jonatán; y su escudero hizo estragos detrás de él.
14 And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armour bearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were an half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow.
En esta primera matanza que hicieron Jonatán y su escudero, murieron unos veinte hombres, en un espacio como de media yugada.
15 And there was trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people: the garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled, and the earth quaked: so it was a very great trembling.
Y se produjo espanto en el campamento, en el campo y entre toda la gente. Se llenaron de pavor las tropas del puesto, y también las bandas de pillaje. Hasta la tierra tembló, pues fue un espanto de Dios.
16 And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked; and, behold, the multitude melted away, and they went on beating down one another.
Miraron los centinelas de Saúl que estaban en Gabaá de Benjamín, y vieron una muchedumbre que se disolvía y corría por todos lados.
17 Then said Saul unto the people that were with him, Number now, and see who is gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armour bearer were not there.
Dijo, pues, Saúl al pueblo que estaba con él: “Pasad revista, y ved quién ha salido de entre nosotros.” Pasó revista, y resultó que faltaban Jonatán y su escudero.
18 And Saul said unto Ahiah, Bring here the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that time with the children of Israel.
Dijo entonces Saúl a Ahías: “Trae aquí el Arca de Dios”; porque el Arca de Dios se hallaba en aquel tiempo entre los israelitas.
19 And it came to pass, while Saul talked unto the priest, that the noise that was in the host of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said unto the priest, Withdraw your hand.
Y mientras Saúl hablaba con el sacerdote, iba creciendo cada vez más el tumulto que había en el campamento de los filisteos, y Saúl dijo al sacerdote: “Retira tu mano.”
20 And Saul and all the people that were with him assembled themselves, and they came to the battle: and, behold, every man's sword was against his fellow, and there was a very great discomfiture.
Y se juntaron Saúl y toda la gente que le acompañaba, y se lanzaron al combate; y he aquí que la espada de cada uno (de los filisteos) se volvía contra el otro, siendo grandísima la confusión.
21 Moreover the Hebrews that were with the Philistines before that time, which went up with them into the camp from the country round about, even they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Jonathan.
También aquellos hebreos que antes estaban con los filisteos y con ellos habían subido al campamento, vinieron a juntarse con los de Israel que estaban con Saúl y Jonatán.
22 Likewise all the men of Israel which had hid themselves in mount Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.
Y todos los hombres de Israel que se habían escondido en la montaña de Efraím, luego que supieron que los filisteos habían huido, se agregaron y tomaron parte con ellos en la batalla.
23 So the LORD saved Israel that day: and the battle passed over unto Bethaven.
Así Yahvé salvó en aquel día a Israel; y la batalla siguió hasta Betaven.
24 And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eats any food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted any food.
Los israelitas estaban exhaustos aquel día; porque Saúl había conjurado al pueblo, diciendo: “¡Maldito aquel que probare bocado antes de la tarde, hasta que yo haya tomado venganza de mis enemigos!” Y nadie del pueblo probó bocado.
25 And all they of the land came to a wood; and there was honey upon the ground.
Llegó entonces todo el pueblo a un bosque donde había miel en el suelo.
26 And when the people were come into the wood, behold, the honey dropped; but no man put his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the oath.
Entró la gente en el bosque, y vio la miel que corría por el suelo, pero no hubo quien se llevase la mano a la boca; porque el pueblo temía el juramento.
27 But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and dipped it in an honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were enlightened.
Pero Jonatán que no había oído cuando su padre juramentó al pueblo, alargó la punta del bastón que tenía en la mano, la metió en un panal de miel, y se llevó la mano a la boca, con lo cual le brillaron los ojos.
28 Then answered one of the people, and said, Your father strictly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed be the man that eats any food this day. And the people were faint.
Entonces tomó la palabra uno del pueblo y dijo: “Tu padre ha obligado al pueblo con juramento, diciendo: ‘¡Maldito aquel que hoy probare bocado!’” Y el pueblo estaba ya exhausto.
29 Then said Jonathan, My father has troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.
Respondió Jonatán: “Mi padre pone en peligro el país. Mirad cómo brillan mis ojos por haber gustado un poco de esta miel.
30 How much more, if lest by any means the people had eaten freely to day of the spoil of their enemies which they found? for had there not been now a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?
¡Ojalá que el pueblo hubiera comido hoy del despojo de sus enemigos que han encontrado! ¿No sería entonces más grave la derrota de los filisteos?”
31 And they stroke the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon: and the people were very faint.
Derrotaron aquel día a los filisteos desde Micmás hasta Ayalón; pero estaba el pueblo sumamente extenuado.
32 And the people flew upon the spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slew them on the ground: and the people did eat them with the blood.
Y se arrojó el pueblo sobre el botín, agarraron ovejas, bueyes y novillos. Los degollaron en el suelo, y comió el pueblo carne con sangre.
33 Then they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sin against the LORD, in that they eat with the blood. And he said, All of you have transgressed: roll a great stone unto me this day.
Se le dijo a Saúl: “He aquí que el pueblo peca contra Yahvé, comiendo carne con sangre.” El respondió: “Habéis prevaricado. Haced rodar aquí una piedra grande.”
34 And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people, and say unto them, Bring me here every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and slay them here, and eat; and sin not against the LORD in eating with the blood. And all the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and slew them there.
Y agregó Saúl: “Dispersaos entre el pueblo y decidles que cada uno me traiga su buey, y cada uno su oveja, y degolladlos aquí; después podréis comer. Así no pecaréis contra Yahvé, comiendo (carne) con sangre.” Y todo el pueblo, cada uno de ellos, trajo aquella noche al buey que tenía a mano, y los degollaron allí.
35 And Saul built an altar unto the LORD: the same was the first altar that he built unto the LORD.
Y Saúl edificó un altar a Yahvé, siendo este el primer altar que edificó a Yahvé.
36 And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seems good unto you. Then said the priest, Let us draw near here unto God.
Después dijo Saúl: “Descendamos esta noche en pos de los filisteos, para saquearlos hasta que raye el alba, y no dejemos de ellos hombre con vida.” Respondieron: “Haz cuanto bien te parezca.” Pero el sacerdote dijo: “Consultemos aquí a Dios.”
37 And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? will you deliver them into the hand of Israel? But he answered him not that day.
Preguntó, pues, Saúl a Dios: “¿Descenderé contra los filisteos? ¿Los entregarás en manos de Israel?” Mas (Dios) no le respondió aquel día.
38 And Saul said, Draw all of you near here, all the chief of the people: and know and see wherein this sin has been this day.
Entonces dijo Saúl: “Venid aquí todos los príncipes del pueblo: averiguad y ved cuál sea el pecado que se ha cometido hoy.
39 For, as the LORD lives, which saves Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people that answered him.
Pues ¡vive Yahvé, el Libertador de Israel, que aunque tenga (la culpa) Jonatán mi hijo, morirá sin remisión!” Y entre todo el pueblo no hubo quien le respondiese.
40 Then said he unto all Israel, Be all of you on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said unto Saul, Do what seems good unto you.
Entonces dijo a todo Israel “Estaos vosotros de un lado, y yo y Jonatán, mi hijo, estaremos del otro.” Y dijo el pueblo a Saúl: “Haz como bien te parezca.”
41 Therefore Saul said unto the LORD God of Israel, Give a perfect lot. And Saul and Jonathan were taken: but the people escaped.
Dijo, pues, Saúl a Yahvé, el Dios de Israel: “Da Tú la decisión.” Y fueron sorteados Jonatán y Saúl, mas el pueblo salió libre.
42 And Saul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.
Luego dijo Saúl: “Echad suerte entre mí y mi hijo Jonatán.” Y cayó la suerte sobre Jonatán.
43 Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what you have done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in mine hand, and, lo, I must die.
Dijo, pues, Saúl a Jonatán: “Dime, ¿qué es lo que has hecho?” Y se lo contó Jonatán, diciendo: “Con la punta del bastón que tenía en mi mano, he gustado un poco de miel; ¡y por eso he de morir!”
44 And Saul answered, God do so and more also: for you shall surely die, Jonathan.
Dijo Saúl: “Hágame Dios esto y eso otro, Jonatán, si tú no mueres sin remedio.”
45 And the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who has wrought this great salvation in Israel? God forbid: as the LORD lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he died not.
Pero el pueblo dijo a Saúl: “¿Jonatán ha de morir, el que ha obrado en Israel esta tan grande liberación? ¡No lo permita Dios! ¡Vive Yahvé que no caerá a tierra un solo cabello de su cabeza, pues con Dios ha obrado en este día!” Salvó así el pueblo a Jonatán, de manera que no murió.
46 Then Saul went up from following the Philistines: and the Philistines went to their own place.
Y volvió Saúl, desistiendo de la persecución de los filisteos, los cuales se fueron a su tierra.
47 So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and anywhere he turned himself, he vexed them.
Después que Saúl hubo ocupado el trono en Israel, hizo guerra contra todos sus enemigos que vivían al contorno: contra los moabitas, contra los hijos de Ammón, contra los idumeos, contra los reyes de Soba y contra los filisteos; y a dondequiera que se volvía, regresaba vencedor.
48 And he gathered an host, and stroke the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of them that spoiled them.
Mostró valentía, derrotó a los amalecitas y libró a Israel de manos de los que lo despojaban.
49 Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Ishui, and Melchishua: and the names of his two daughters were these; the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal:
Los hijos de Saúl eran Jonatán, Jesuí y Melquisúa; sus dos hijas se llamaban: la mayor, Merob, y la menor, Micol.
50 And the name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam, the daughter of Ahimaaz: and the name of the captain of his host was Abner, the son of Ner, Saul's uncle.
La mujer de Saúl se llamaba Ahinoam, hija de Ahimaas. El nombre del jefe del ejército era Abner, hijo de Ner, tío de Saúl.
51 And Kish was the father of Saul; and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.
Porque Kis, padre de Saúl, y Ner, padre de Abner, eran hijos de Abiel.
52 And there was sore war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any strong man, or any valiant man, he took him unto him.
Durante toda la vida de Saúl hubo violenta guerra contra los filisteos, y cuando Saúl veía un hombre esforzado y valiente, lo agregó a sus filas.
