< Psalms 41 >

1 Blessed is he that considereth the poor: Yhwh will deliver him in time of trouble.
For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. Blessed is he who considers the poor. The LORD will deliver him in the day of evil.
2 Yhwh will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive. He shall be blessed on the earth, and he will not surrender him to the will of his enemies.
3 Yhwh will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt restore him from his bed of sickness.
The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed, and restore him from his bed of illness.
4 I said, Yhwh, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.
I said, “LORD, have mercy on me! Heal me, for I have sinned against you.”
5 Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish?
My enemies speak evil against me: “When will he die, and his name perish?”
6 And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity: his heart gathereth iniquity to itself; when he goeth abroad, he telleth it.
If he comes to see me, he speaks falsehood. His heart gathers iniquity to itself. When he goes abroad, he tells it.
7 All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt.
All who hate me whisper together against me. They imagine the worst for me.
8 An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more.
“An evil disease”, they say, “has afflicted him. Now that he lies he shall rise up no more.”
9 Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.
Yes, my own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, who ate bread with me, has lifted up his heel against me.
10 But thou, O Yhwh, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them.
But you, LORD, have mercy on me, and raise me up, that I may repay them.
11 By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.
By this I know that you delight in me, because my enemy doesn’t triumph over me.
12 And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever.
As for me, you uphold me in my integrity, and set me in your presence forever.
13 Blessed be Yhwh God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen.
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting and to everlasting! Amen and amen.
