< Proverbs 23 >
1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:
Khobawinaw hoi rawca rei na ca toteh, na hmalah apimaw ka tahung tie kahawicalah pouk.
2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
Na kâso e lah na awm pawiteh, tahloi hoi na lawkron hah nue haw.
3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.
Atuinae dueng pouk hanh, bangkongtetpawiteh dumyennae rawca doeh.
4 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.
Tawnta hanelah kâcai hanh, na panuenae kâuep hanh.
5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
Ka coung thai hoeh e hah na ngaihawi kawi namaw. Tawntanae ni amahmawk rathei a sak teh mataw patetlah kahlun lah koung a kamleng.
6 Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:
Utsinnaw e rawca cat pouh hanh, ahnie rawcanaw hai nôe pouh hanh.
7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
Bangkongtetpawiteh, a lung hoi a pouk e patetlah doeh ao, cat nateh net ati nakunghai a lungthin teh nang koe awm mahoeh.
8 The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
Na ca e hai na palo vaiteh, na oupnae hai a hrawnghrang lah ao han.
9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
Tamipathu thainae koe lawk dei hanh, bangkongtetpawiteh na lungangnae lawk hah banglahai noutna mahoeh.
10 Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
Ayan e khori hai takhoe hanh, naranaw e ram hai lawm hanh.
11 For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.
Bangkongtetpawiteh, ahnimouh ratangkung teh a tha ao, ahnimouh koelah kampang lahoi na taran payon vaih.
12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
Cangkhainae koelah na lungthin poe nateh, panuenae lawk thainae koe na hnâpakeng haw.
13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
Camo hah yue laipalah awm hanh, hem yawkaw dout mahoeh.
14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell. (Sheol )
Bongpai hoi hem nateh a hringnae hah sheol dawk hoi rungngang haw. (Sheol )
15 My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
Ka capa na lungang pawiteh, ka lung ahawi katang han.
16 Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.
Bokheiyah, na pahni ni lawk kalan dei pawiteh, ka lung ahawi katang han.
17 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of Yhwh all the day long.
Na lungthin ni tamikayon nôe hanh naseh, hatei kanîruirui BAWIPA takinae tawn haw.
18 For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
Bangkongtetpawiteh, apoutnae teh ka phat han, na ngaihawi e teh ahrawnghrang lah awm mahoeh.
19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.
Ka capa thai nateh lungang haw, na lungthin teh lamkalan dawk tat haw.
20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
Misurtui kâsonaw hah kamyawngkhai hanh, moi kâsonaw hai kamyawngkhai hanh.
21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
Bangkongtetpawiteh, yamuhri hoi moi kâso e teh a mathoe han, iparuinae ni tami napon a kâkhusak.
22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
Kakhekung na pa e lawk hah ngâi nateh, na matawng toteh na manu dudam hanh.
23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
Lawkkatang hah ran nateh yawt hanh, lungangnae hai, cangkhainae hai, thaipanueknae hai a sak.
24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.
Tamikalan ni a na pa puenghoi a lunghawisak, capa lungkaang ka khe e hai a lunghawi katang han.
25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.
Na manu hoi na pa teh lunghawi hoi awm awh naseh, kakhekung hai lunghawi naseh.
26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
Ka capa na lungthin na poe haw, na mit ni ka onae nuen khen naseh.
27 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
Kâyawt e teh kadung poung e tangkom doeh, kahlong lae napui hai kabueng e tuikhu doeh.
28 She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.
A man thai e naw hah ouk a pawp, tongpa naw koe yuemkamcuhoehnae ouk a pungsak
29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
Apimaw a lung ka mathout, apimaw kângaikâthung, apimaw ayâ hoi kâyue, apimaw ka phuenang, apimaw a khuekhaw awm laipalah hmâ ka cat, apimaw a mit ka paling tetpawiteh,
30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
Yamu koe pou kaawm niteh, yamu aphunphun ouk kalawt e taminaw doeh.
31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
Ka paling e yamu hah khen hanh, manang dawk kamlaw niteh, kamcu e yamu hah khen lah boehai khen hanh.
32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
Apoutnae koe tahrun patetlah na khuek vaiteh, hrunthok patetlah na khue han.
33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
Na mit ni napuinaw kathoute hmawt vaiteh, na lungthin ni lawk longkawi a dei han.
34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
Bokheiyah, talî dawk ka ip e patetlah na awm vaiteh, long dawk yap e hni van ka ip e patetlah doeh na awm ti.
35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
Na hem awh teh pataw hoeh, na tam awh ei ka panuek hoeh, nâtuek vaimoe ka kâhlaw vaiteh bout ka parui han vai na ti han doeh.
