Proverbs 15
1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
柔かい答は憤りをとどめ、激しい言葉は怒りをひきおこす。
2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
知恵ある者の舌は知識をわかち与え、愚かな者の口は愚かを吐き出す。
3 The eyes of Yhwh are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
主の目はどこにでもあって、悪人と善人とを見張っている。
4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.
優しい舌は命の木である、乱暴な言葉は魂を傷つける。
5 A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
愚かな者は父の教訓を軽んじる、戒めを守る者は賢い者である。
6 In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.
正しい者の家には多くの宝がある、悪しき者の所得には煩いがある。
7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.
知恵ある者のくちびるは知識をひろめる、愚かな者の心はそうでない。
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to Yhwh: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
悪しき者の供え物は主に憎まれ、正しい者の祈は彼に喜ばれる。
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto Yhwh: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
悪しき者の道は主に憎まれ、正義を求める者は彼に愛せられる。
10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.
道を捨てる者には、きびしい懲しめがあり、戒めを憎む者は死に至る。
11 Hell and destruction are before Yhwh: how much more then the hearts of the children of men? (Sheol h7585)
陰府と滅びとは主の目の前にあり、人の心はなおさらである。 (Sheol h7585)
12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.
あざける者は戒められることを好まない、また知恵ある者に近づかない。
13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
心に楽しみがあれば顔色も喜ばしい、心に憂いがあれば気はふさぐ。
14 The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.
さとき者の心は知識をたずね、愚かな者の口は愚かさを食物とする。
15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.
悩んでいる者の日々はことごとくつらく、心の楽しい人は常に宴会をもつ。
16 Better is little with the fear of Yhwh than great treasure and trouble therewith.
少しの物を所有して主を恐れるのは、多くの宝をもって苦労するのにまさる。
17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
野菜を食べて互に愛するのは、肥えた牛を食べて互に憎むのにまさる。
18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
憤りやすい者は争いをおこし、怒りをおそくする者は争いをとどめる。
19 The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.
なまけ者の道には、いばらがはえしげり、正しい者の道は平らかである。
20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
知恵ある子は父を喜ばせる、愚かな人はその母を軽んじる。
21 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.
無知な者は愚かなことを喜び、さとき者はまっすぐに歩む。
22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
相はかることがなければ、計画は破れる、はかる者が多ければ、それは必ず成る。
23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!
人は口から出る好ましい答によって喜びを得る、時にかなった言葉は、いかにも良いものだ。
知恵ある人の道は上って命に至る、こうしてその人は下にある陰府を離れる。 (Sheol h7585)
25 Yhwh will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.
主は高ぶる者の家を滅ぼし、やもめの地境を定められる。
26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to Yhwh: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.
悪人の計りごとは主に憎まれ、潔白な人の言葉は彼に喜ばれる。
27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
不正な利をむさぼる者はその家を煩らわせる、まいないを憎む者は生きながらえる。
28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
正しい者の心は答えるべきことを考える、悪しき者の口は悪を吐き出す。
29 Yhwh is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
主は悪しき者に遠ざかり、正しい者の祈を聞かれる。
30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.
目の光は心を喜ばせ、よい知らせは骨を潤す。
31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
ためになる戒めを聞く耳をもつ者は、知恵ある者の中にとどまる。
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
教訓を捨てる者はおのれの命を軽んじ、戒めを重んじる者は悟りを得る。
33 The fear of Yhwh is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
主を恐れることは知恵の教訓である、謙遜は、栄誉に先だつ。
