Philemon 1

1 Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer,

אל פילימון, עוזרנו היקר והאהוב, אל הקהילה שמתאספת בביתך, אל אחותנו אפיה ואל ארכיפס, שהוא חבר במלחמתנו למען המשיח. מאת פולוס, שיושב במאסר באשמת הפצת הבשורה על ישוע המשיח, ומאת טימותיוס אחינו.

2 And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the Assembly in thy house:

3 Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

שלום וברכה מאת אלוהינו ואדוננו ישוע המשיח.

4 I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,

פילימון היקר, אני מודה תמיד לאלוהים כאשר אני מתפלל בעדך,

5 Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;

כי אני ממשיך לשמוע על אמונתך במשיח ישוע ואהבתך לכל עם אלוהים.

6 That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

אני מתפלל שכאשר תספר לאנשים שונים על אמונתך באדון, הם יבחינו בתכונותיך הטובות ובברכות שהשפיע עליך האדון, וגם הם יאמינו בישוע המשיח.

7 For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.

אחי היקר, אהבתך הייתה לי לשמחה ונחמה, שכן מעשיך הטובים עודדו מאוד את המאמינים.

8 Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,

ברצוני לבקש ממך לעשות לי טובה. למעשה אני רשאי לצוות עליך למלא את בקשתי בשם ישוע המשיח, כי חובתך למלא אותה. אך אני, פולוס הזקן שיושב בכלא למען המשיח, אוהב אותך ומעדיף לבקש ממך במקום לצוות עליך.

9 Yet for love’s sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

10 I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:

בקשתי היא שתתנהג יפה עם אוניסימוס. כאן בכלא הדרכתי אותו אל האדון ישוע המשיח, ועתה אוניסימוס מאמין בו.

11 Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:

אוניסימוס (פירוש השם: רב־תועלת) לא הועיל לך בעבר, אך מעתה ואילך יהיה לתועלת רבה לשנינו.

12 Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:

בצער רב ניפרד אני מבני באמונה, שהוא בבת עיני, ומחזירו אליך.

13 Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:

חפצתי שיישאר לעזור לי כאן בבית הכלא,

14 But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.

אך לא רציתי לכפות עליך את רצוני.

15 For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever; (aiōnios g166)

אני מציע שתסתכל על המצב כך: אוניסימוס עזב אותך לזמן קצר כדי שעכשיו, בשובו, יוכל להיות שלך לתמיד. (aiōnios g166)

16 Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?

הוא לא יהיה יותר סתם עבד, אלא מישהו חשוב יותר – אח אהוב, ובמיוחד אהוב עלי. מעתה יגדל ערכו בעיניך, שכן אין הוא סתם עבד, אלא גם אחיך במשיח.

17 If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.

אם אתה באמת חושב אותי לידיד טוב שלך, אנא, קבלהו בחמימות כשם שהיית מקבל אותי לו אני הייתי בא.

18 If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;

אם אוניסימוס גרם לך נזק כלשהו בעבר או גנב ממך משהו, זקוף זאת לחובתי,

19 I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.

ואני מתחייב בזאת לשלם את כל מה שמגיע לך. (הריני מאשר בכתב ידי שאני ערב לכל מעשיו של אוניסימוס). איני צריך להזכיר לך כמה אתה חייב לי; אתה חייב לי כל־כך הרבה אפילו את חייך!

20 Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.

אחי היקר, אנא עשה את המעשה הנעלה הזה אשר יגרום לי שמחה רבה, ואני אודה לאלוהים מעומק לבי.

21 Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.

כתבתי לך מכתב זה כי אני בטוח שתמלא את בקשתי. (ואף למעלה מזאת).

22 But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.

אתה כבר יכול להכין למעני את חדר האורחים, כי אני מקווה שאלוהים יענה לתפילותיכם ויאפשר לי לבקר אתכם בקרוב.

23 There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;

דרישת שלום לך מאפפרס שנמצא איתי בכלא. גם הוא נאסר רק בגלל שסיפר לאנשים על ישוע המשיח.

24 Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.

גם עוזרי מרקוס, אריסטרכוס, דימס ולוקס מוסרים דרישת שלום חמה.

25 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. Written from Rome to Philemon, by Onesimus a servant.
