Philemon 1
1 Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer,
Paul, prisonnier de Jésus-Christ, et Timothée, notre frère, — à Philémon, notre bien-aimé et notre compagnon d'oeuvre,
2 And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the Assembly in thy house:
ainsi qu'à Appie, notre soeur, à Archippe, notre compagnon d'armes, et à l'Église qui se réunit dans ta maison.
3 Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Que la grâce et la paix vous soient données de la part de Dieu, notre Père, et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ!
4 I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,
Je rends sans cesse grâces à mon Dieu, en faisant mention de toi dans mes prières;
5 Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;
car j'entends parler de ta foi au Seigneur Jésus, et de la charité que tu témoignes à tous les saints.
6 That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
Je lui demande que cette foi, qui nous est commune, se montre efficace, en faisant reconnaître tout le bien qui s'accomplit parmi nous pour Christ.
7 For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.
J'ai éprouvé, en effet, une grande joie et une grande consolation à cause de ta charité, parce que, grâce à toi, frère, le coeur des saints a été soulagé.
8 Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,
C'est pourquoi, bien que j'aie en Christ toute liberté de te prescrire ce qui convient,
9 Yet for love’s sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
j'aime mieux faire appel à ta charité. Étant ce que je suis, moi Paul, un vieillard, et, de plus, aujourd'hui le prisonnier de Jésus-Christ,
10 I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:
je te prie pour mon fils que j'ai engendré dans les chaînes, pour Onésime,
11 Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:
qui autrefois t'a été inutile, mais qui maintenant te sera très utile, et à moi aussi:
12 Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:
je te le renvoie, lui qui est comme une partie de moi-même.
13 Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:
J'aurais désiré le retenir auprès de moi, pour qu'il me servît, à ta place, dans les liens où je suis pour l'Évangile.
14 But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.
Mais je n'ai rien voulu faire sans ton consentement, afin que le bien que tu feras ne soit pas forcé, mais volontaire.
15 For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever; (aiōnios g166)
Peut-être, en effet, n'a-t-il été séparé de toi pour un temps, qu'afin que tu le recouvres pour toujours, (aiōnios g166)
16 Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?
non plus comme un esclave, mais comme au-dessus d'un esclave, comme un frère bien-aimé, tout particulièrement aimé de moi, et bien plus encore de toi, selon la chair et selon le Seigneur!
17 If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.
Si donc tu me tiens pour ton ami, reçois-le comme moi-même.
18 If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;
Que s'il t'a fait quelque tort, ou s'il te doit quelque chose, porte-le-moi en compte.
19 I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.
Moi Paul, j'écris ceci de ma propre main: je te le rendrai — pour ne pas te rappeler que tu te dois toi-même à moi. —
20 Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.
Oui, frère, que je reçoive de toi cette joie dans le Seigneur; procure à mon coeur ce soulagement en Christ.
21 Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
Je t'écris, persuadé de ton obéissance, sachant que tu feras même plus que je ne dis!
22 But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.
En même temps, prépare-toi à me donner aussi l'hospitalité; car j'espère vous être rendu, grâce à vos prières.
23 There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;
Épaphras, qui est mon compagnon de captivité en Jésus-Christ, te salue,
24 Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.
ainsi que Marc, Aristarque, Démas et Luc, mes compagnons d'oeuvre.
25 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. Written from Rome to Philemon, by Onesimus a servant.
