Nehemiah 5
1 And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.
Então surgiu um grande grito do povo e de suas esposas contra seus irmãos, os judeus.
2 For there were that said, We, our sons, and our daughters, are many: therefore we take up grain for them, that we may eat, and live.
Pois houve quem dissesse: “Nós, nossos filhos e nossas filhas, somos muitos”. Vamos buscar grãos, para que possamos comer e viver”.
3 Some also there were that said, We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might buy grain, because of the dearth.
Houve também alguns que disseram: “Estamos hipotecando nossos campos, nossos vinhedos e nossas casas”. Vamos conseguir grãos, por causa da fome”.
4 There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards.
Houve também alguns que disseram: “Pedimos dinheiro emprestado para a homenagem do rei, usando nossos campos e nossas vinhas como garantia”.
5 Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.
Mas agora nossa carne é como a carne de nossos irmãos, nossos filhos como os filhos deles”. Eis que colocamos nossos filhos e nossas filhas em cativeiro para serem servos, e algumas de nossas filhas foram colocadas em cativeiro. Também não está em nosso poder ajudá-la, porque outros homens têm nossos campos e nossas vinhas”.
6 And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.
Fiquei muito zangado quando ouvi seu grito e estas palavras.
7 Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said unto them, Ye exact usury, every one of his brother. And I set a great assembly against them.
Então me consultei comigo mesmo, e me confrontei com os nobres e os governantes, e lhes disse: “Vós exigis usura, todos de seu irmão”. Realizei uma grande assembléia contra eles.
8 And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer.
Eu lhes disse: “Nós, depois de nossa capacidade, resgatamos nossos irmãos, os judeus que foram vendidos às nações; e você até venderia seus irmãos, e eles deveriam ser vendidos a nós”? Então eles se calaram, e não encontraram uma palavra a dizer.
9 Also I said, It is not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies?
Também eu disse: “O que vocês fazem não é bom”. Você não deveria caminhar no temor de nosso Deus por causa da reprovação das nações, nossos inimigos?
10 I likewise, and my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and grain: I pray you, let us leave off this usury.
Eu também, meus irmãos e meus servos, lhes empresto dinheiro e grãos. Por favor, deixem-nos parar esta usura.
11 Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the grain, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them.
Por favor, restituam-lhes, ainda hoje, seus campos, seus vinhedos, seus olivais e suas casas, também a centésima parte do dinheiro, do grão, do vinho novo e do azeite, que lhes cobram”.
12 Then said they, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise.
Então eles disseram: “Nós os restauraremos e não exigiremos nada deles”. Fá-lo-emos, mesmo como vocês dizem”. Então chamei os padres e fiz um juramento deles, que fariam de acordo com esta promessa.
13 Also I shook my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised Yhwh. And the people did according to this promise.
Também sacudi meu colo e disse: “Que Deus sacuda cada homem de sua casa, e de seu trabalho, que não cumpre esta promessa; até mesmo que ele seja sacudido e esvaziado assim”. Toda a assembléia disse, “Amém”, e elogiou Yahweh. O povo fez de acordo com esta promessa.
14 Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor.
Além disso, desde que fui nomeado governador deles na terra de Judá, desde o vigésimo ano até o trigésimo segundo ano de Artaxerxes o rei, ou seja, doze anos, eu e meus irmãos não comemos o pão do governador.
15 But the former governors that had been before me were chargeable unto the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, beside forty shekels of silver; yea, even their servants bare rule over the people: but so did not I, because of the fear of God.
Mas os ex-governadores que foram antes de mim foram apoiados pelo povo, e deles tomaram pão e vinho, mais quarenta siclos de prata; sim, até seus servos governavam o povo, mas eu não o fiz, por causa do temor de Deus.
16 Yea, also I continued in the work of this wall, neither bought we any land: and all my servants were gathered thither unto the work.
Sim, eu também continuei no trabalho deste muro. Nós não compramos nenhuma terra. Todos os meus servos estavam ali reunidos para o trabalho.
17 Moreover there were at my table an hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers, beside those that came unto us from among the heathen that are about us.
Moreover estavam à minha mesa, dos judeus e dos governantes, cento e cinqüenta homens, além daqueles que vieram até nós de entre as nações que estavam ao nosso redor.
18 Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this required not I the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy upon this people.
Agora, o que estava preparado para um dia era um boi e seis ovelhas escolhidas. Também foram preparadas galinhas para mim, e uma vez em dez dias uma loja de todo tipo de vinho. No entanto, por tudo isso, eu não exigia o pagamento do governador, porque a escravidão era pesada para este povo.
19 Think upon me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people.
Lembre-se de mim, meu Deus, por todo o bem que tenho feito por este povo.
