Mark 9
1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.
Il ajouta: « Je vous le dis, en vérité, parmi ceux qui sont ici, quelques-uns ne goûteront pas la mort, qu’ils n’aient vu le royaume de Dieu venir avec puissance. »
2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.
Six jours après, Jésus prit avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean, et les conduisit seuls, à l’écart, sur une haute montagne, et il fut transfiguré devant eux.
3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.
Ses vêtements devinrent étincelants, d’une blancheur aussi éclatante que la neige, et tels qu’aucun foulon sur la terre ne saurait blanchir ainsi.
4 And there appeared unto them Elijah with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.
Puis Élie et Moïse leur apparurent, conversant avec Jésus.
5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.
Pierre, prenant la parole, dit à Jésus: « Maître, il nous est bon d’être ici; dressons trois tentes, une pour toi, une pour Moïse, et une pour Élie. »
6 For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.
Il ne savait ce qu’il disait, l’effroi les ayant saisis.
7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
Et une nuée les couvrit de son ombre, et de la nuée sortit une voix: « Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé; écoutez-le. »
8 And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.
Aussitôt, regardant tout autour, ils ne virent plus personne, si ce n’est Jésus, seul avec eux.
9 And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.
Comme ils descendaient de la montagne, il leur défendit de raconter à personne ce qu’ils avaient vu, jusqu’à ce que le Fils de l’homme fût ressuscité des morts.
10 And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.
Et ils gardèrent pour eux la chose, tout en se demandant entre eux ce que signifiait ce mot: « être ressuscité des morts! »
11 And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elijah must first come?
Ils l’interrogèrent et lui dirent: « Pourquoi donc les scribes disent-ils qu’il faut qu’Élie vienne auparavant? »
12 And he answered and told them, Elijah verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.
Il leur répondit: « Élie doit venir auparavant, et rétablir toutes choses; et comment est-il écrit du Fils de l’homme qu’il doit souffrir beaucoup et être méprisé?
13 But I say unto you, That Elijah is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.
Mais, je vous le dis, Élie est déjà venu, et ils l’ont traité comme ils ont voulu, selon qu’il est écrit de lui. »
14 And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.
Étant retourné vers ses disciples, il vit une grande foule autour d’eux, et des scribes qui discutaient avec eux.
15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.
Toute la foule fut surprise de voir Jésus, et elle accourut aussitôt pour le saluer.
16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
Il leur demanda: « Sur quoi discutez-vous avec eux? »
17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
Un homme de la foule lui répondit: « Maître, je t’ai amené mon fils, qui est possédé d’un esprit muet.
18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
Partout où l’esprit s’empare de lui, il le jette contre terre, et l’enfant écume, et grince des dents et il se dessèche; j’ai prié tes disciples de le chasser, et ils n’ont pas pu.
19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
O race incrédule, leur dit Jésus, jusques à quand serai-je avec vous? Jusques à quand vous supporterai-je? Amenez-le-moi. »
20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
On le lui amena. À sa vue, l’esprit agita soudain l’enfant avec violence; il tomba par terre et se roulait en écumant.
21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
Jésus demanda au père de l’enfant: « Combien y a-t-il de temps que cela lui arrive? — Depuis son enfance, répondit-il.
22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
Souvent l’esprit l’a jeté dans le feu et dans l’eau pour le faire périr; si tu peux quelque chose, aie pitié de nous et viens-nous en aide. »
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
Jésus lui dit: « Si tu peux (croire), tout est possible à celui qui croit. »
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
Aussitôt le père de l’enfant s’écria, disant avec larmes: « Je crois (Seigneur); viens au secours de mon incrédulité »
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
Jésus, voyant le peuple accourir en foule, menaça l’esprit impur, en disant: « Esprit sourd et muet, je te le commande, sors de cet enfant, et ne rentre plus en lui. »
26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
Alors, ayant poussé un grand cri, et l’ayant agité avec violence, il sortit, et l’enfant devint comme un cadavre, au point que plusieurs disaient: « Il est mort. »
27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
Mais Jésus, l’ayant pris par la main, le fit lever, et il se tint debout.
28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
Lorsqu’il fut entré dans la maison, ses disciples lui demandèrent en particulier: « Pourquoi n’avons-nous pu chasser cet esprit? »
29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
Il leur dit: « Ce genre de démon ne peut être chassé que par la prière et le jeûne. »
30 And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.
Étant partis de là, ils cheminèrent à travers la Galilée, et Jésus ne voulait pas qu’on le sût,
31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.
car il enseignait ses disciples et leur disait: « Le fils de l’homme sera livré entre les mains des hommes, et ils le feront mourir, et le troisième jour après sa mort il ressuscitera. »
32 But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.
Mais ils ne comprenaient pas cette parole, et ils craignaient de l’interroger.
33 And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?
Ils arrivèrent à Capharnaüm. Lorsqu’il fut dans la maison, Jésus leur demanda: « De quoi parliez-vous en chemin? »
34 But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.
Mais ils gardèrent le silence, car en chemin ils avaient discuté entre eux qui était le plus grand.
35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.
Alors ils s’assit, appela les Douze et leur dit: « Si quelqu’un veut être le premier, il sera le dernier de tous, et le serviteur de tous. »
36 And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,
Puis, prenant un petit enfant, il le mit au milieu d’eux; et après l’avoir embrassé, il leur dit:
37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.
« Quiconque reçoit en mon nom un de ces petits enfants, me reçoit; et quiconque me reçoit, ce n’est pas moi qu’il reçoit, mais celui qui m’a envoyé. »
38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
Jean, prenant la parole, lui dit: « Maître, nous avons vu un homme qui ne va pas avec nous, chasser les démons en ton nom, et nous l’en avons empêché. »
39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
Mais Jésus dit: « Ne l’en empêchez pas, car personne ne peut faire de miracle en mon nom, et aussitôt après parler mal de moi.
40 For he that is not against us is on our part.
Qui n’est pas contre nous, est pour nous.
41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
Car quiconque vous donnera un verre d’eau en mon nom, parce que vous êtes au Christ, je vous le dis, en vérité, il ne perdra pas sa récompense.
42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
Et quiconque sera une occasion de chute pour un de ces petits qui croient en moi, il vaudrait mieux pour lui qu’on lui attachât au cou la meule qu’un âne tourne, et qu’on le jetât dans la mer. »
43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: (Geenna g1067)
« Si ta main est pour toi une occasion de chute, coupe-la: mieux vaut pour toi entrer mutilé dans la vie, que d’aller, ayant deux mains, dans la géhenne, dans le feu inextinguible, (Geenna g1067)
44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
[là où leur ver ne meurt pas, et où le feu ne s’éteint pas].
45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: (Geenna g1067)
Et si ton pied est pour toi une occasion de chute, coupe-le: mieux vaut pour toi entrer boiteux dans la vie, que d’être jeté, ayant deux pieds, dans la géhenne du feu inextinguible, (Geenna g1067)
46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
[là où leur ver ne meurt pas, et où le feu ne s’éteint pas.]
47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: (Geenna g1067)
Et si ton œil est pour toi une occasion de chute, arrache-le: mieux vaut pour toi entrer avec un seul œil dans le royaume de Dieu, que d’être jeté, ayant deux yeux, dans la géhenne du feu, (Geenna g1067)
48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
là où leur ver ne meurt pas, et où le feu ne s’éteint pas. »
49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.
Car tout homme sera salé par le feu, et toute offrande sera salée avec du sel.
50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
Le sel est bon; mais si le sel s’affadit, avec quoi lui donnerez-vous de la saveur? Gardez bien le sel en vous, et soyez en paix les uns avec les autres. »
