Luke 7
1 Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
Après que Jésus eut achevé de prononcer toutes ces paroles devant le peuple qui l'écoutait, il entra dans Capernaüm.
2 And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.
Or, un centenier avait un serviteur malade et près de mourir, qui lui était très cher.
3 And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.
Ayant entendu parler de Jésus, il lui envoya quelques anciens des Juifs, pour le prier de venir guérir son serviteur.
4 And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:
Ceux-ci, étant arrivés auprès de Jésus, le priaient avec instance, en disant: Il est digne que tu lui accordes cela;
5 For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.
car il aime notre nation, et c'est lui qui nous a fait bâtir la synagogue.
6 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:
Alors Jésus s'en alla avec eux. Comme il approchait déjà de la maison, le centenier envoya des amis, pour lui dire: Seigneur, ne te donne pas tant de peine; car je ne mérite pas que tu entres sous mon toit.
7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
Aussi ne me suis-je pas même jugé digne d'aller auprès de toi; mais dis une parole, et mon serviteur sera guéri.
8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
Car moi-même, qui suis un homme soumis à la puissance d'autrui, j'ai sous mes ordres des soldats. Je dis à l'un: Va! Et il va; et à l'autre! Viens! Et il vient; et à mon serviteur: Fais cela! Et il le fait.
9 When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
Jésus, ayant entendu ces paroles, admira le centenier; et, se tournant vers la foule qui le suivait, il dit: Je vous le déclare, même en Israël je n'ai pas trouvé une aussi grande foi.
10 And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.
Et les envoyés, de retour à la maison, trouvèrent le serviteur en bonne santé.
11 And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.
Le jour suivant, Jésus allait à une ville appelée Nain, et plusieurs de ses disciples et une grande foule faisaient route avec lui.
12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
Comme il approchait de la porte de la ville, voici qu'on emportait un mort, fils unique de sa mère qui était veuve; et il y avait avec elle un grand nombre de gens de la ville.
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
Le Seigneur, l'ayant vue, fut touché de compassion pour elle, et il lui dit: Ne pleure pas!
14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
Puis, s'étant approché, il toucha le cercueil, et ceux qui le portaient s'arrêtèrent. Alors il dit: Jeune homme, je te l'ordonne, lève-toi!
15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
Le mort se mit sur son séant et commença à parler. Et Jésus le rendit à sa mère.
16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.
La crainte les saisit tous, et ils glorifiaient Dieu en disant: Un grand prophète s'est levé parmi nous, et Dieu a visité son peuple.
17 And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judæa, and throughout all the region round about.
Le bruit s'en répandit dans toute la Judée et dans tout le pays environnant.
18 And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.
Les disciples de Jean lui rapportèrent toutes ces choses.
19 And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
Alors il appela deux de ses disciples et les envoya dire au Seigneur: Es-tu celui qui doit venir, ou devons-nous en attendre un autre?
20 When the men were come unto him, they said, John the Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
Ces hommes, étant arrivés auprès de Jésus, lui dirent: Jean-Baptiste nous a envoyés vers toi pour te dire: Es-tu celui qui doit venir, ou devons-nous en attendre un autre?
21 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.
Or, à cette heure même, Jésus guérit plusieurs personnes de maladies, d'infirmités et de malins esprits, et il rendit la vue à plusieurs aveugles.
22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
Puis il répondit: Allez rapporter à Jean ce que vous avez vu et entendu: les aveugles recouvrent la vue, les boiteux marchent, les lépreux sont nettoyés, les sourds entendent, les morts ressuscitent, l'Évangile est annoncé aux pauvres.
23 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
Heureux celui pour qui je ne serai pas une occasion de chute!
24 And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
Quand les messagers de Jean furent partis, Jésus se mit à parler de Jean à la foule, et dit: Qu'êtes-vous allés voir au désert? Un roseau agité par le vent?
25 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts.
Encore une fois, qu'êtes-vous allés voir? Un homme vêtu d'habits somptueux? Mais ceux qui portent des vêtements magnifiques et qui vivent dans les délices sont dans les palais des rois!
26 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.
Mais enfin, qu'êtes-vous allés voir? Un prophète? Oui, vous dis-je, et plus qu'un prophète.
27 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
C'est celui dont il est écrit: «Je vais envoyer mon messager devant ta face, et il préparera ton chemin devant toi.»
28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
Je vous le dis, entre ceux qui sont nés de femme, il n'y en a point de plus grand que Jean-Baptiste; toutefois, celui qui est le plus petit dans le royaume de Dieu est plus grand que lui.
29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
Et tout le peuple qui l'a entendu, ainsi que les péagers, ont justifié Dieu, en se faisant baptiser du baptême de Jean.
30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.
Mais les pharisiens et les docteurs de la loi, en ne se faisant pas baptiser par lui, ont rejeté le dessein de Dieu à leur égard.
31 And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?
A qui donc comparerai-je les hommes de cette génération, et à qui ressemblent-ils?
32 They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.
Ils ressemblent à des enfants assis sur la place publique, et qui se disent les uns aux autres: Nous vous avons joué de la flûte, et vous n'avez pas dansé; nous avons chanté des complaintes, et vous n'avez pas pleuré.
33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil.
En effet, Jean-Baptiste est venu, ne mangeant pas de pain et ne buvant pas de vin; et vous dites: Il a un démon.
34 The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!
Le Fils de l'homme est venu, mangeant et buvant; et vous dites: Voilà un mangeur et un buveur, un ami des péagers et des pécheurs!
35 But wisdom is justified of all her children.
Mais la sagesse a été justifiée par tous ses enfants.
36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat.
L'un des pharisiens pria Jésus de prendre un repas chez lui. Étant donc entré dans la maison du pharisien, Jésus se mit à table.
37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
Or, voici qu'une femme de la ville, qui était de mauvaise vie, ayant appris qu'il était à table dans la maison du pharisien, apporta un vase d'albâtre plein de parfum.
38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
Et, se tenant en arrière, aux pieds de Jésus, en pleurant, elle se mit à lui arroser les pieds de ses larmes et à les essuyer avec ses cheveux; elle lui baisait les pieds et les oignait avec le parfum.
39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
Le pharisien qui avait invité Jésus, voyant cela, dit en lui-même: Si cet homme était prophète, il saurait qui est cette femme qui le touche, et que c'est une femme de mauvaise vie.
40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
Alors Jésus, prenant la parole, lui dit: Simon, j'ai quelque chose à te dire. Simon lui répondit: Maître, parle!
41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
Un créancier avait deux débiteurs: l'un lui devait cinq cents deniers, l'autre cinquante.
42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
Et comme ils n'avaient pas de quoi payer, il leur remit à tous deux leur dette. Lequel des deux l'aimera le plus?
43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
Simon répondit: J'estime que c'est celui à qui il a le plus remis. Jésus lui dit: Tu as bien jugé.
44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
Puis se tournant vers la femme, il dit à Simon: Tu vois cette femme? Je suis entré dans ta maison. et tu ne m'as pas donné d'eau pour mes pieds; mais elle les a arrosés de ses larmes et les a essuyés avec ses cheveux.
45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
Tu ne m'as pas donné de baiser; mais elle, depuis qu'elle est entrée, n'a cessé de me baiser les pieds.
46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.
Tu n'as pas oint ma tête d'huile; mais elle a oint mes pieds de parfum.
47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
C'est pourquoi, je te le déclare, ses péchés, qui sont en grand nombre, lui sont pardonnés; car elle a beaucoup aimé. Mais celui à qui on pardonne peu, aime peu.
48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
Puis il dit à la femme: Tes péchés te sont pardonnés.
49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
Ceux qui étaient à table avec lui se mirent à dire en eux-mêmes: Quel est celui-ci, qui même pardonne les péchés?
50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
Mais il dit à la femme: Ta foi t'a sauvée; va en paix.
