Judges 8

1 And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they did chide with him sharply.

۱ و مردان افرایم او را گفتند: «این چه‌کاراست که به ما کرده‌ای که چون برای جنگ مدیان می‌رفتی ما را نخواندی و به سختی با وی منازعت کردند.»

2 And he said unto them, What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abi–ezer?

۲ او به ایشان گفت: «الان من بالنسبه به‌کار شما چه کردم؟ مگر خوشه چینی افرایم از میوه چینی ابیعزر بهتر نیست؟

3 God hath delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

۳ به‌دست شما خدا دو سردار مدیان، یعنی غراب و ذئب راتسلیم نمود و من مثل شما قادر بر چه‌کار بودم؟» پس چون این سخن را گفت، خشم ایشان بروی فرو نشست.

4 And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them.

۴ و جدعون با آن سیصد نفر که همراه او بودندبه اردن رسیده، عبور کردند، و اگر‌چه خسته بودند، لیکن تعاقب می‌کردند.

5 And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they be faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian.

۵ و به اهل سکوت گفت: «تمنا این که چند نان به رفقایم بدهید زیراخسته‌اند، و من زبح و صلمونع، ملوک مدیان راتعاقب می‌کنم.»

6 And the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thine army?

۶ سرداران سکوت به وی گفتند: «مگر دستهای زبح و صلمونع الان در دست تومی باشد تا به لشکر تو نان بدهیم.»

7 And Gideon said, Therefore when Yhwh hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.

۷ جدعون گفت: «پس چون خداوند زبح و صلمونع را به‌دست من تسلیم کرده باشد، آنگاه گوشت شما رابا شوک و خار صحرا خواهم درید.»

8 And he went up thence to Penuel, and spake unto them likewise: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered him.

۸ و از آنجا به فنوعیل برآمده، به ایشان همچنین گفت، و اهل فنوعیل مثل جواب اهل سکوت او را جواب دادند.

9 And he spake also unto the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.

۹ و به اهل فنوعیل نیز گفت: «وقتی که به سلامت برگردم این برج را منهدم خواهم ساخت.»

10 Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their armies with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the armies of the children of the east: for there fell an hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword.

۱۰ و زبح و صلمونع در قرقور با لشکر خود به قدر پانزده هزار نفر بودند. تمامی بقیه لشکربنی مشرق این بود، زیرا صد و بیست هزار مردجنگی افتاده بودند.

11 And Gideon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smote the army: for the army was secure.

۱۱ و جدعون به راه چادرنشینان به طرف شرقی نوبح و یجبهاه برآمده، لشکر ایشان را شکست داد، زیرا که لشکر مطمئن بودند.

12 And when Zebah and Zalmunna fled, he pursued after them, and took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the army.

۱۲ و زبح و صلمونع فرارکردند و ایشان را تعاقب نموده، آن دو ملک مدیان یعنی زبح و صلمونع را گرفت و تمامی لشکرایشان را منهزم ساخت.

13 And Gideon the son of Joash returned from battle before the sun was up,

۱۳ و جدعون بن یوآش از بالای حارس ازجنگ برگشت.

14 And caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and enquired of him: and he described unto him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, even threescore and seventeen men.

۱۴ و جوانی از اهل سکوت راگرفته، از او تفتیش کرد و او برای وی نامهای سرداران سکوت و مشایخ آن را که هفتاد و هفت نفر بودند، نوشت.

15 And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye did upbraid me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thy men that are weary?

۱۵ پس نزد اهل سکوت آمده، گفت: «اینک زبح و صلمونع را که درباره ایشان مرا طعنه زده، گفتید مگر دست زبح و صلمونع الان در دست تو است تا به مردان خسته تو نان بدهیم.»

16 And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.

۱۶ پس مشایخ شهر و شوک و خارهای صحرا را گرفته، اهل سکوت را به آنها تادیب نمود.

17 And he beat down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city.

۱۷ و برج فنوعیل را منهدم ساخته، مردان شهر را کشت.

18 Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king.

۱۸ و به زبح و صلمونع گفت: «چگونه مردمانی بودند که در تابور کشتید.» گفتند: «ایشان مثل توبودند، هر یکی شبیه شاهزادگان.»

19 And he said, They were my brethren, even the sons of my mother: as Yhwh liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you.

۱۹ گفت: «ایشان برادرانم و پسران مادر من بودند، به خداوند حی قسم اگر ایشان را زنده نگاه می‌داشتید، شما را نمی کشتم.»

20 And he said unto Jether his firstborn, Up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet a youth.

۲۰ و به نخست زاده خود، یتر، گفت: «برخیز و ایشان رابکش.» لیکن آن جوان شمشیر خود را از ترس نکشید چونکه هنوز جوان بود.

21 Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise thou, and fall upon us: for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took away the ornaments that were on their camels’ necks.

۲۱ پس زبح وصلمونع گفتند: «تو برخیز و ما را بکش زیراشجاعت مرد مثل خود اوست.» پس جدعون برخاسته، زبح و صلمونع را بکشت و هلالهایی که بر گردن شتران ایشان بود، گرفت.

22 Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son also: for thou hast delivered us from the hand of Midian.

۲۲ پس مردان اسرائیل به جدعون گفتند: «بر ماسلطنت نما، هم پسر تو و پسر پسر تو نیز چونکه ما را از دست مدیان رهانیدی.»

23 And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: Yhwh shall rule over you.

۲۳ جدعون درجواب ایشان گفت: «من بر شما سلطنت نخواهم کرد، و پسر من بر شما سلطنت نخواهد کرد، خداوند بر شما سلطنت خواهد نمود.»

24 And Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would give me every man the earrings of his prey. ( For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

۲۴ وجدعون به ایشان گفت: «یک چیز از شما خواهش دارم که هر یکی از شما گوشواره های غنیمت خود را به من بدهد.» زیرا که گوشواره های طلاداشتند چونکه اسمعیلیان بودند.

25 And they answered, We will willingly give them. And they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man the earrings of his prey.

۲۵ در جواب گفتند: «البته می‌دهیم». پس ردایی پهن کرده، هریکی گوشواره های غنیمت خود را در آن انداختند.

26 And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; beside ornaments, and collars, and purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels’ necks.

۲۶ و وزن گوشواره های طلایی که طلبیده بود هزار و هفتصد مثقال طلا بود، سوای آن هلالها و حلقه‌ها و جامه های ارغوانی که برملوک مدیان بود، و سوای گردنبندهایی که برگردن شتران ایشان بود.

27 And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither a whoring after it: which thing became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house.

۲۷ و جدعون از آنهاایفودی ساخت و آن را در شهر خود عفره برپاداشت، و تمامی اسرائیل به آنجا در عقب آن زناکردند، و آن برای جدعون و خاندان او دام شد.

28 Thus was Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon.

۲۸ پس مدیان در حضور بنی‌اسرائیل مغلوب شدند و دیگر سر خود را بلند نکردند، و زمین درایام جدعون چهل سال آرامی یافت.

29 And Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house.

۲۹ و یربعل بن یوآش رفته، در خانه خود ساکن شد.

30 And Gideon had threescore and ten sons of his body begotten: for he had many wives.

۳۰ و جدعون را هفتاد پسر بود که از صلبش بیرون آمده بودند، زیرا زنان بسیار داشت.

31 And his concubine that was in Shechem, she also bare him a son, whose name he called Abimelech.

۳۱ وکنیز او که در شکیم بود او نیز برای وی پسری آورد، و او را ابیملک نام نهاد.

32 And Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abi–ezrites.

۳۲ و جدعون بن یوآش پیر و سالخورده شده، مرد، و در قبرپدرش یوآش در عفره ابیعزری دفن شد.

33 And it came to pass, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went a whoring after Baalim, and made Baal–berith their god.

۳۳ و واقع شد بعد از وفات جدعون که بنی‌اسرائیل برگشته، در‌پیروی بعلها زنا کردند، وبعل بریت را خدای خود ساختند.

34 And the children of Israel remembered not Yhwh their God, who had delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies on every side:

۳۴ وبنی‌اسرائیل یهوه، خدای خود را که ایشان را ازدست جمیع دشمنان ایشان از هر طرف رهایی داده بود، به یاد نیاوردند.

35 Neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.

۳۵ و با خاندان یربعل جدعون موافق همه احسانی که با بنی‌اسرائیل نموده بود، نیکویی نکردند.
